Same Coil Whine noise here. I returned the first unit but the second one still has the same noise. Really annoying. And the speaker is another problem. It would make a weird noise when I jump from one video to another. Also, same problem on both machines.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I doubt I'm going to return mine for another; I just don't see the point. I expect them all to have it. I just think others don't notice it or can't hear it. Like I said, I can hear a similar noise when I put my ear right up to my old 15" but I can't hear it when just sitting in a quiet room and that's an issue. But there's no computer I want more than this one so I'm kinda stuck with it!

Whenever Windows does any sort of patching or

I just went with the 512GB one. I've now got all my apps installed, 4 different VMs and am sitting with 280GB free. But I guess the i9/1TB option is pretty tempting at that price.
at which price? for the i9?

Lol. I guess the same. Some people might can't hear the noise in this frequency. I also get a 2015 MacBook pro 15" and I can only hear the sound when I get really close to it. So yeah, probably just try to get used to it.

coming from a 2011 13' MBP that was top of the stack at that point, modded through the years with 16gb of ram and 2 1TB SSD's.....this thing is a dream. I went for the next step up from base (i9, pro5500 gfx, 16gb ram, 1tb), I'm not a power user, just need a reliable machine than can handle some lite photo processing. Hoping to keep this one for as long as my old MBP! btw, nothing wrong with the old machine.....my daughter just inherited it.

I have the 16" and my 2018 15" still here and compared them side by side. The 16" is slightly less bright on the same settings. I had True Tone and automatic adjust brightness on both computers and the display wasn't bright enough for me on the 16". I still have True Tone on, but set brightness at about 60% which is perfect for me. I'm looking at both computers side by side now at 100% brightness and the 2018 looks very slightly brighter with and without True Tone on. Part of that may be because my new 16" has a very slightly warmer screen. I can't see any difference in color. This is a very subjective opinion. I'll be interested to see what your finding are tomorrow.

I did the same between my 16" and the 2016 15.4" of my parents. everything maxed out, they were incredibly similar. The 2016 one had no True Tone, I tried to calibrate the screen by eye to match with the warmth of the 16". The 15.4" one had a tiny bit more contrast but at the expense of less detail (I compared using the background pic 'Catalina-Silhouette' and on the 16" one I could make out slightly more details on the rocks than on the 15.4").

I really like the True Tone feature on the 16" because on the 2016 15.4" I needed to set a couple of calibrated profiles as color temperature changes throughout the day.

What surprised me was that the 16" screen looked noticeably bigger! Also my tech-averse parents noticed that.

I upgraded my machine from a 2012 15.4" retina MBP with 8GB RAM. A great machine that served be incredibly well in different jobs. The 16" one feels like a smooth evolution. The new keyboard has the same underlaying technology but feels even nicer. Of course it is a lot more responsive. Battery life is incredible. I love the Touch Pad. The reduced amount of ports doesn't bother me because even with the 2012 I needed to have adapters for VGA, so I simply have a multi-port adapter now and that's it. I like the Touch Bar as well but it's more of a gadget than a tool.

Config: I took an i9 with 2.4 GHz, 32GB RAM, 2TB HD and the 5500m/8GB graphics.

All in all - the 16" is a warmly recommended machine!

I think the 720P facetime camera at the front is a let down. Is it any diff in quality on the 16"?

I'm glad you are happy with your new computer. I still love mine in spite of the pop in the speakers when using Youtube. The speakers are incredible otherwise and I have no plan to return or exchange this computer as the issue seems to be widespread and I think it will be a long time before Apple fixes this if they even can. I have the base model which more than meets my needs. I also had the 2012 15" rMBP which was a great machine. In fact I still have it - my brother uses it when he visits. It works flawlessly and is running Catalina with no problem.
