Apple today held a third fall event, this time focused on Macs. Apple announced new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini models, all of which are equipped with the first Apple Silicon chip, the M1.

It took Apple a little bit under an hour to introduce all of the new devices during the "One More Thing" event, but we've recapped all of the announcements in just six minutes for our readers who want quick but thorough overview of the announcements.

Hope they are able to deliver more powerful professional machines with adequate levels of RAM and discrete GPUs in the future. A redesign would also be nice with a 14" MBP.

As I've said all along, it doesn't make much sense to buy into this right away. Things will improve as apps are made native, bugs are worked out, and Apple can build upon what they've already shown us hardware wise. Think how quickly things accelerated from the A4 in the first iPad. These early machines are largely Intel Macs with Apple Silicon. I'm looking forward to see what a Mac is like that's completely redesigned around this new silicon. I'm planning to get the 2nd or third generation.

Nope, Apple clearly will not be able to do this. They have launched a failed idea, how could Apple not know their core business?

/s

Guys, this is the first iteration of a new product lineup. CLEARLY they have replaced the lower end of the spectrum first. Yall need to stop running around with your hair on fire.

So the Mac Mini is the same dimensions? Does anyone know of a mount that can hold the mini and magnetically attach to the side of my PC?

Well, some of us are concerned that they seem to go backwards on the MacBook Pro 13" with regard to things like RAM, etc.

Performance per watt is important in portables but not so much in desktop. As far as new MacBooks are concerned, the only thing that has improved is the battery life.

When are we getting the new final cut pro and logic pro updates though? Shame on apple for nothing giving any information on that

This my take: everything is faster, better, more efficient , more incredibly powerful, everything is so much better , BUT:
-what is clock speed on these M1 chips ?
-limited to only 2 USB4 /TB3 ports
-limited to only 16 Gb RAM
-same webcam ...
-256 Gb base system , in 2020

These are not complains just observations. I guess I'll have to wait for review videos to see just how these system perform in real life scenarios. One more week or so.

I agree with your second paragraph. I don't understand the concern from the first. This is obviously their base model Mac processor and it will only go up from here...

e Apple core business is consumer level products - Intel has failed to deliver better and more efficient processors. Plus we all know the the 2021 "M2" processors will have more cores and be more efficient. Apple will do their Pro Machines once developers are more ready for new hardware probably late 2021.

16 GB RAM?

Hello 2014
You could say the same thing about megapixels, or clock speed, or terabytes, etc. More isn't always better. The unified memory architecture will be far more beneficial to the vast majority of buyers as opposed to a 32GB RAM option. The Pro models with Apple silicon and gobs of RAM will come soon enough, just be patient :D

The price on the old Mini increased, so we'll get old prices on Black Friday as if it was a great deal, which is not the case... it's just the old standard price.

It's a bit strange how they say that new M1 is x-amount faster but only give app examples. No benchmarks. Wonder what the clock speed is.

I use Windows on my 16 inch too often to be able to change for quite a while. Currently enjoying a Halo-fest. Try that on the new hardware!
