What's sad is that people don't seem to realize that:

Apple didn't get to be a $2T company:
- wasting people's time with unnecessary fluff in the reveals
- presenting "meh" product updates for years in a row
- wasting money, time and resources
- by becoming a simple consumer product company that forgot how to innovate

And this is not a love Apple at all costs post, but posts like the above signify a big disconnect in the reality of how the world at large perceives Apple.

That Apple makes a lot of money does not mean whatsoever that it creates innovative products.
Furthermore, a lot of money is actually being made from services rather than products.
It took them 4 years to acknowledge and fix a bad keyboard design on the entire Macbook line.
It took them 6-7 years to come with a new Mac Pro design after a failed trashcan design.
The iMac has a 10 year completely outdated external design.

Apple upgrade timelines have become pathetic.
Once again, many other companies make billions, which does not mean they are innovating.

Not debuting the Airtags makes sense now, in retrospect. Those are associated with the iPhone and its ability to locate tags with its U1 chip, specially if there'll be augmented reality feature to locate Airtags, a major feature of the iPhone 12 with its LiDAR. Airtags wouldn't make sense in an Apple Watch focused event.

I'm wondering about the tv though. Unless they want some filler in the iPhone event, I don't see why it couldn't have been announced now, ahead of the Fall TV schedule.
I agree and have been desperately waiting for a new one to roll out.

But my guess is the U1 chip will be in the new remote and they'll want to also tie that in with the new iPhone and Air Tags.

Fair enough. However, it doesn't mean they aren't making innovative products and/or you don't like their trajectory so the innovation is not recognized by you.
Furthermore, a lot of money is actually being made from services rather than products.
And a lot of money is made from products also. Apple is a product and service company. Their hardware is a gateway to their services and they rely on active devices, not only new sales.

It's not binary. They made some mistakes that are not to your liking.

Again, this is not binary and doesn't mean they haven't innovated or have "met the criteria" presented in your original post because there "a thing" about the company you criticize.

Yes, in your opinion.

Doesn't mean Apple isn't innovating even if the innovation doesn't meet your approval.

Does anyone know where the mountaintop lookout/staircase is at 14:25 in the full video?

It looks like the video zooms from Apple Park, over Mt. Diablo?, across Suisan Bay, then over Sacramento and somewhere in the Sierras. Very cool little clip-I assume Apple chartered a helicopter to shoot the scene.

Other companies are branching out into foldables. This is new tech. Bleeding edge tech. There is new tech apple can do but they don’t choose to be first or second or even 10th to the game. Apple has the means to innovate day one ahead of the competition and its just has never been that way for a long time. I consider iPhone 4 days bleeding edge technology with the hardware to match. They can do it. They choose to milk their products and eventually get into the game.

I like the way most products that Apple produces are incremental updates. It also stops this destructive desire for people to upgrade their technology too frequently - and all the negative externalities that involves.

I like the way they make old things 'new' again by adding features in software, particularly when coupled with hardware that already exists in older models but has not yet been used to its full potential (eg. U1 chip will be one of those, just wait). Most of the competition companies care little for devices sold even a year or two ago.

The mistakes Apple made are major, and they deem the product UNUSABLE.
THose mistakes would NOT have happened under JOBS, and it truly speaks how little they care about quality control and innovation.
And it is not just my opinion, it was the opinion of many users that decided NOT to buy and many major reviewers that recommended NOT to buy the Macbooks.

Who deems? Who is they?

You're holding it wrong is a great example of making a product unusable for some under Jobs. I'm sure I can dig up some more. The only thing is speaks of, is that mistakes happen in companies over time.
And it is not just my opinion, it was the opinion of many users that decided NOT to buy and many major reviewers that recommended NOT to buy the Macbooks.
The universe in September 2020 does not agree with you, and the "many" users that decided NOT to buy and the "major reviewers that recommended NOT to buy". You may hold your opinion, but the facts about where apple is financially, revenue wise, and how customers view them from credentialed studies (not MR forum posts) are the polar opposite to what you claim in your posts.
