Siri is still garbage. Three new fetch calls for spots and celebrities nobody cares about, and a "shotcut" feature which is a fraud. If you have to micro-manage your assistant its not an assistant. This should be handled by AI and already knows which apps are on your phone. You should not have to STATE which apps and services are on your phone, it should already know. Why bother when 15 seconds your in the app and you have pressed the button, and you dont run the risk of it getting your non-US accent wrong. Meanwhile Google assistant knows the weight of the Apple Home pod when asked, but Siri doesnt. Talk about mopping the floor.

Vice on HBO just did a short segment on Siri stating similar problems about an hour ago. A former Siri engineer said that the people running Siri now don’t know what they are doing, and Apple was complacent thinking they were always going to be on top in technology.

It will be interesting to see next year if Apple recent hire was just publicity or will produce actual results

Most of these features are nice, but nothing terribly groundbreaking. I'm disappointed that there was no talk about improving Siri's usability. tvOS' was pretty sad; Apple is finally delivering what they promised they'd deliver long ago with Atmos. Also, new screensavers? Is that really major announcement-worthy news?

I look forward to the updates.

So file this under future claim chowder if you want, but I expect to see a touch screen MacBook in two years.

For some reason I wouldn’t be surprised if this came true. Apple has a habit of releasing features on a MacBook Pro that nobody wants. Touchbar so why not touchscreen? I’d also expect a price increase with this too

This feature might be my favorite. Anything Apple can do to give us more customized, granular control over Siri is a good thing.

If Siri will always be more limited than Alexa and the Google Assistant because of Apple’s commitment to privacy then Apple should give us all the tools necessary to make Siri as smart as possible.

Isn’t this a bit of an oxymoron? If Siri is suppose to be an AI, why do you have to forcefully feed it scripts to figure things out?

I like these smaller updates. Focus on squashing bugs, Safari becoming more secure and improving performance. Dark mode and group FaceTime are both nice additions.

Honestly, apart from a much improved Siri there's really not much I can think of Apple doing.
I'm really quite enjoying both iOS 11 (after a very bad start thanks to throttling) and High Sierra, they both work really nice.

Also finally having iCloud messages feels so great, no longer do I have to delete messages off of both my MacBook and iPhone.

I’ve wanted to be able to set Siri commands for controlling my alarm system and my audio receiver without using my phone. But what I haven’t seen is whether it will take the actions you set or if an app needs api’s etc set with it.

So I still can’t change the default web browser or mail client on my $1000 phone? Yea, this is my last iPhone. Looking forward to owning a Google Pixel 3 with some freedom.

Apple is slowly losing me as a customer altogether. My MacBook Pro will be the only thing left, although that may replaced with a PC when I’m ready to upgrade. Something with more freedom.

I have one Mac, two iOS devices, an ATV 4, and an AW, so all of these apply to me. I thought a little about what features I would actually use from each of these updates. Here's what I got:
iOS: better performance. Would use Google Maps with CarPlay if my car supported CarPlay.
macOS: News app. Might enable Dark Mode once in a while just for novelty.
WatchOS: cadence and auto start/stop (both in the run activity in the workout app)
tvOS: zero sign-on (when my provider is supported, some day)

I'm not trying to troll - I love Apple's products and am not going to threaten to take my ball and go play in Google's sandbox or anything like that. I just thought this was the most underwhelming keynote I've ever seen from Apple with almost no meaningful new features in any OS. I actually watched the keynote and STILL have no earthly idea how they stretched it to two hours.

Agree. I have all apple products and that presentation was super boring. You would think that someone at apple would have realized this and teased some hardware. Geeze, Just throw a new i7 chip into the Mac mini and we would have been thrilled.

There's no single mention of Siri in its very physical representation. Homepod!! Not even mentioned once.

HomePod could do some upgrades:

1. Put sleep timer on music playback
2. Initiating phone calls as a part of Personal Requests
3. Open up Siri Shortcuts, which also means support for third party streaming services
4. Since Apple TV now has Dolby Atmos, enabling 4 or 5 HomePods work together to achieve this would be awesome! Screw Soundbar and all those "virtual" Atmos!

This proves that the move into the new HQ building and the associated R&D center was more disruptive to ongoing projects than anyone imagined. It's like an Olympic runner who falls on the first turn of the 800 m, chances are they are not getting back into the pack. Eddie Cue had better be growing services sales at double digits 'cause the hardware and software guys are still unpacking cardboard frikken boxes!

This is one of the most “meh” WWDC keynotes that I can remember but I am happy they are dedicating a good chunk of their resources into tuning iOS up. The performance improvements will be with be worth it for users with aging iOS hardware.

I was shocked there were no hardware announcements. I’m ready to buy a new iMac but won’t until they refresh the hardware.

Thanks, that will save me quite a bit of time. The announcements are OK. I was looking for hardware news but...This is Apple, they love to make us wait and wait.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and make a prediction. When Craig explained that Apple is NOT merging iOS and MacOS, he also danced around how certain iOS apps are being ported over to the Mac, like the News App. My prediction is that once we start seeing apps do this, the next gen of MacBooks will be Touchscreen enabled.

You scoff. Apple has said that touch screen on an IMac is useless and same with laptops. Apple has said there is no use case for a touch screen laptop. But they also said there is no use for an iPad stylus, that smart watches suck, and that TV is a hobby. Meanwhile the MS Surface is getting better, the MS Studio is expensive but cool and useful for a niche of users, and the fact is that the crappy keyboard and underwhelming touch bar on the current crop of MacBooks means that a complete MacBook hardware overhaul is on the horizon. And sure, up til now Mac Apps have not lended themselves to a touch interface. But that’s changing. So file this under future claim chowder if you want, but I expect to see a touch screen MacBook in two years.

The Screen Time thing is huge, huge, HUGE for parents. I honestly think they could have ditched the emoji demo and done a screen time demo instead. Oh, and I also think that Siri Shortcuts is going to eventually be a major thing. I foresee Apple learning how screen time is used by people and incorporating more real world logic into Siri as a result of what they see.

Apple did announce new hardware--just tacitly and implicitly.

First, there was a deafening silence concerning the TouchBar on the Mac. The year Apple introduced the TB, it was supposedly the best innovation since sliced cheese. Last year, the TB was mentioned, but almost in passing. This year, no mention at all. As far as I can tell, this is a dead technology that will be relegated into obscurity with the next redesign.

The biggest news of the day to me was implied when Craig stated that Apple is porting iOS apps over to macOS in Mohave and--this is crucial--he stated that this was part of a multi-phase, "multi-year project."

Craig spoke the truth when he said Apple has no intention of conflating iOS and macOS, because they do use different UIs. He never stated, however, that Apple would not bring the underlying hardware (i.e. ARM) into alignment.

Anyone who is paying attention should have no doubts that Apple is transitioning to ARM. My debate is now what to do when I need a new laptop in the next year. Buy a Mac knowing x86-64 will soon become obsolete or go back to Windows?

Any Mac purchased over the next couple of years will have a much shorter service life, much like the last PPC Macs, than previous generations, because once Apple transitions to ARM there will be little if any software support for x86 hardware.

I agree. I normally look forward to this but for the first time didn’t. But, if they actually do improve performance and fix some of the many outstanding issues I will be happy.

You can change the default mail client.

1. Press and hold on any icon.
2. Hit the X on Mail.
3. Replace with Google Mail.

OMG- Was anyone else Bored out of their mind?!
I looked at the time that this was done and thought... Steve would be pissed!

" You took the television to the crapper. It doesn't interface with Siri. "
You let Amazon wipe the floor with Siri compared to Alexa. You had years of advancement with siri and decided to let it wither away!

Then you develop products that are late to market and when they arrive they don't work with anything else to even be functional, i.e. HOMEPOD!!! (Returned mine!)

What about the applications? iPhoto and iOS. Your making them look like Windows 10!!!
There is nothing unique about Apple anymore! I give you 2 years until you drive the stock and the company down again.
Billions wasted on Auto Driving car...
Billions wasted on acquiring Beats for what? head phones guaranteed to break. ( went through 3 pairs in 1 year!!!)
Nothing is unique at Apple!!! It's copy and buy out!

Develop! Please! Cut down on the cost for App developers, provide a unique environment for iOS to grow, DEVELOP the HEALTH APP SO THAT REAL TIME DATA CAN BE PULLED DOWN and utilized by individuals interested in their health.

Take the apple pen and do something with it like across all platforms!!! TV, Mac OS, iOS, iPhone, and what about making i-Tunes Devices like an Alexa? Where my AppleTV/itunes device can go with me anywhere and store data and connect to a host of speakers? Instead it sits there next to my TV good for playing Netflix, which Xfinity can now do for me. :(

iOS use to be stable and strong, now I'm lucky if I can mirror my phone to apple TV, or not have it shut down 2 mins into playing a video?

Or what about trying to pull up my iPhone 3 photos only to find out that they can't be opened by anything in Apple anymore? WTFrak?

Why isn't the simple principles working? 3 clicks, less confusion and more solutions! Simpler icons not more difficult to see with out glasses icons.

Beats; sell it off!!! It's not worth it. I love Dre but come on! What is it good for? If you would have bought Sonos your money would have been better spent! Then you could have developed whole house speaker systems with built in Siri and then leveraged your searches.

Now you don't have a search engine, Amazon and Google will squeeze you into a smaller and smaller hole and you don't see it. People prefer simplicity and consistency.

How about a 3D work environment? Hand gestures to represent 3 D spaces? A new way of tracking files using 3D gestures and storage. Come on do something!!!!!!

Finally, if your not political then what are you? You recognize everything political more than any other CEO in America? That's fine so long as your creating and improving the iOS environment. But your not.. Your political meandering to the white house and still avoiding paying your billions in taxes that could go to help out the country that Apple is based in. Tim it's nothing personal but please let someone run the company with a vision of what the future should be and help them by being a great CFO or a COO but never a CEO. It's just not in your genes. Sorry.

- Skipping AR
- Limit Apple usage is probably gonna be a good thing. Control, but i find taking a phone away would be allot better :)
- Group notifications, good feature
- Group Facetime,, Good start, Terrible UI.. If Apple wants to be like Google Hangouts... then don't plug up the UI with all the zooming stuff.. every single video who is NOT talking Stick to the single or dual persons on screen, instead of having everyone all over the place. Only bring then on screen, when needed.
- Mac OS Mojave - Good name. (sic)
- Dark Mode is good, but I reckon Apple is just deliberately leaving these features not, not because they can't do it,,,, They make sure NOT to add code in previous versions, so they can say , "upgrade to get this"

New OS's get it first, while all they have to do is push out an update, and Sierra would get it... would come later... no excuses

- Desktop Stacks just is an extension of the Downloads and Documents stacks, but plays good with all files i reckon.. But still "cleanup ya freckin' desktop in the first place"
- Watch bands :D
- Dolby Amos (hopefully Apple does good job on this) ...

BY THE WAY, Have had a mac since 1983! Supported it during the 90s and have been totally disillusioned with this CEO. 1983 Mac 128K, SE-30, Maclike computer, iMac 1st Gen, 3rd Pen, MBP color, MBP color, MBP color, MBP color, Entire office of iMacs for 30 years! Losing me is losing a strong supporter but I went into a Microsoft store and wasn't disappointed. (this is like going to confession?!)

I was a bit disappointed about iOS 12, but when I installed beta version, I am very pleased. iOS 12 beta is by far the most stable beta release ever. My iPhone X and even iPad Air are a lot faster and smoother on iOS 12 beta than iOS 11.4 I can’t believe.

Today's Worldwide Developers Conference keynote featured more than two hours of non-stop coverage of the new features coming in iOS 12, macOS Mojave, tvOS 12, and watchOS 5.

For those of you who haven't had a chance to watch the keynote or don't want to spend two hours listening to software announcements, we've condensed everything Apple announced into six minutes, so you can get a quick recap of everything important.

There were no hardware announcements at today's event, with Apple electing to focus solely on iOS 12, macOS Mojave, tvOS 12, and watchOS 5. It's no surprise Apple decided to unveil software alone, as all of these updates bring some great new features.

iOS 12 speeds up many of the animations on the iPhone and iPad for faster performance, plus it brings a suite of new digital health tools for monitoring how much time you're spending on your devices and cutting back if desired.

Do Not Disturb at Bedtime minimizes nighttime distractions, while Group Notifications clean up your Lock screen. On the iPhone X, there are new emoji, including personalized "Memoji" characters that you can customize to look like you. ARKit 2 will bring improved multiplayer augmented reality apps that also offer object persistence, and Group FaceTime will let you chat with up to 32 people at once.

macOS Mojave introduces a new Dark Mode, a revamped and enhanced Finder, Desktop Stacks for managing items on your desktop, a redesigned Mac App Store, a Dynamic desktop that changes based on the time of day, and new apps that include Home, Apple News, Stocks, and Voice Memos.

As for tvOS, it brings long-awaited Dolby Atmos support and a new zero sign-on feature that's designed to let you access apps you're entitled to with your cable subscription when you're signed into your cable provider's WiFi.

watchOS 5 introduces auto workout detection for automatically starting and stopping workouts, new workout types, a Podcasts app, an activity competition mode for competing with friends, improvements to the Siri watch face, and a new Walkie-Talkie app for sending push-to-talk messages to friends and family.

For a full recap of all our coverage today and more detail on what was announced, make sure to check out our dedicated event recap post.

Make sure you stay tuned to MacRumors this week, because we're going to be sharing in-depth videos highlighting new features in all of the software updates Apple introduced today. We'll also be publishing detailed roundups on everything you need to know about the new software, and we'll have coverage of all the new features as we delve into the updates.

Can't complaint about the landslide of QoL improvements, but it's a little yawn-worthy for an annual event like the WWDC.

Yawn....wake me when there are any hardware updates.
Apple is a phone company now and has been since the launch of the iPhone. No software updates on iWorks, Safari, Mail, iMovie, Final Cut, iPhotos, iTunes, Maps, Calendar, Time Machine etc. You know the computer stuff. No hardware. When did Apple last update its hardware? 2010? 2009? No 17" laptop, no new iMac, its still stuck at 27". No new screens. No new Mac Pro since 2013. No new Mac mini. Why can't all Macs have user upgradable RAM? What are the hardware guys doing? What are the app programmers doing? Moving the chairs and desks around the new shiny HQ? Very disappointing Tim. I only saw one thing of interest which was Group FaceTime and blocking Facebook, which I don't use anyway. You might become the first trillion dollar company, but I care more about the poor hardware/software range Apple currently has, and has had for several years now. A Mac user for 25 years.

This keynote should have been no longer than 60 minutes. There were some nice new features I wasn't expecting and that were worth explaining, but they wasted way too much time with unnecessary product demos, live gaming and most importantly telling everything new multiple times in way too much time. Could have been more in a nutshell.
