Nope...they dropped the Rose Gold version and changed the Gold to match the 6th Gen iPad and the iPhone 8/8 Plus Gold and left the thing at 7th Gen 5w Y-Series. Nothing gonna happen this year. Honestly, I think the 12” MacBook is about to meet the same fate as the olde 2015 13” MacBook Air.
I disagree. The MacBook wasn’t updated since Amber Lake Y is just a clock speed boost over Kaby Lake Y. Everything else is identical.

Apple didn’t want the MacBook to be just as fast or faster than the new Air. My guess is that we will see a more substantial redesign of the 12” (such as a Thunderbolt port and Touch ID) next year when Cannonlake finally debuts in mass quantities. The 12” MacBook is still significantly smaller and lighter. Apple has skipped processor generations before, particularly small ones such as Kaby Lake Y to Amber Lake Y.

In today's events, Tim say's 13.3 inch is the best size for traveling. So, it is true that MacBook 12 has already been cold.
I doubt it. The MacBook is still quite a bit lighter. The real reason is that Amber Lake isn’t much of an improvement over Kaby Lake Y. My guess is that the 12” gets a more substantial overhaul next year (4 years after release) when Cannonlake finally appears. It can get Touch ID and maybe Thunderbolt and then the decision is solely about size and weight.

I have a feeling it’ll join the MacBook Air 11”, the MacBook Pro 17”, and possibly the MacBook 12” next. Apple seems to have whittled down the range of laptop sizes they find acceptable from 6” to 2”. 13” and 15”, and a disjointed pile of redundant, overlapping machines within those two sizes.

Understandably those were the 2 most popular selling sizes, but those sizes sold well because they lacked an obvious problem. If they had given the 11” a display with more than 25 pixels in it, or a 17” w/ post-2011 guts, slimmer body & lighter weight, they could have sold the hell out of them. Unfortunate.
The iPad mini 5 could have saved costs by using the iPad 1/2/3 chassis, but it would have disappointed quite a few people. I think the iPad mini is more important than Apple realizes, but I don’t run things.

The 12” MacBook can drift away and I would never miss it. I tried to like it, but it is just not my jam. I acknowledge that others may really like it. It could be salvaged, if Apple wanted to, but I think it got its walking papers today.

The 17” MacBook Pro is a favorite of mine and while I think the tech necessary has caught up to make a 17” Retina MacBook Pro possible, Apple has zero will to do it. If they did it right and made it adequately sized to stay cool and thick enough...it could be a great, truly Pro machine. Apple has no interest in making this product. Too bad.

No new iMac and no teasing of MacPro were the biggest pitfalls for me. The mini is a decent upgrade from previous, like that they kept a port selection. The air also looks decent and will at one point likely replace my MBP. But what I need right now is an iMac, and I don't have it, so still holding out I guess.

Personally I’m glad they didn’t update the iMac today if they’re waiting on new GPUs. There haven’t really been upgrade options there unless they move to Nvidia, which I hope they will. I’m willing to wait a few more months to get a better system that will last me the next 5-6 years.

I’d like a fast six core i9 with a GPU that can output 8 or 9tflops, a 1TB SSD, 32GB of RAM (prefer 16GB base that I can upgrade myself), 10Gbps Ethernet, WiFi 6 (ax), UHS-II card slot, and a 31.5” 6K display. The last item is the biggest stretch and pretty unlikely, but I can always dream. I’ve priced out a similar 2017 machine that is basically maxed out aside from RAM and only 1TB SSD, and with upgrading the RAM myself, it’s around $3500 which is the most I’d like to spend. I’d be willing to spend some more for 6K but whatever! So I’m hoping that SSD prices come down a little along with a base 16GB of RAM, but given Apples penchant for price increases lately, it will probably cost more.

iMac Pro equals no iMac. Mac Mini will replace the iMac basic. Offers more flexibility then an iMac, the iMac Pro meets the needs of All iMac users with the option of the Mac Mini to fill in the product line. Will see how it goes.
That would be dumb because the iMac is their best selling desktop.

Um, Mac Pro should be at the TOP of this list.

Cheese grater can run Mojave just fine. Maybe for macOS 10.15 Sequoia.

nVidia really won't happen on the Mac Pro or any Mac for that matter. Apple's more likely to use Intel's dedicated GPUs when and if they're released than nVidia again. It's sad but true. AMD is more willing to cooperate. Besides I'm sure Metal will start becoming more important and nVidia is all about CUDA. They could care less about Metal and OpenCL and will not change.

I'm very disappointed that AirPower and AirPods were missing. I was very excited for an all in one convenient charging solution Apple promised last year for my iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods (and maybe even Apple Pencil I hoped), that I held off any 3rd party solution knowing it won't be as good.

Here is some of my personal thoughts on the event:

I instantly ordered the Mac mini. For me, there is nothing in the market that compares. Every guest that comes to my house is blown away by how cool it is to have my Mac mini hooked up to my TV with wireless mouse and keyboard.

I loved the hardware update to the iPads, but I am content with my 10.5 iPad Pro for now. Every new iPad Pro requires you to buy ALL the accessories all over again and I just can't do that on a yearly basis.

The MacBook Air was more of a let down the more I read about it. I hope everyone who considers it takes a detailed look at the MacBook Pro 13. It has vastly superior Retina display (Wide Color, True Tone, much higher Brightness), much faster processor, double the ports that allow for either side charging (I value this greatly), TouchBar if you care, and it is only 0.3 lbs more and it still has 10 hour battery life vs 12. If you upgrade the Air to 256gb of storage, than the Pro is $400 more, but to me it feels like its 4X the computer in every way. Even for the light user, the longevity of the 13" MBP in the long run is well worth it in comparison.

If they are keeping the MacBook around they should offer a 128GB option at $1099. It is technically now a lower price point than the Air when comparing identical storage capacities, and it frustrates me when articles compare the base model of both, without drawing that distinction.

Seemed clear that these things weren't going to happen today or at very least it was incredibly unlikely.

No iPhone X SE :(

That's what the XR is. It replaced the SE. While there's a remote possibility they'd release one next year (not a chance in hell they'd announce one so close to the XR release and take the wind out of those sales), at this point it's almost certainly replaced the SE completely for good.

Sometimes people unrealistically hope for things at an event, like expecting a bunch of hardware at WWDC, so there's no real reason to be disappointed. But this time there was no part of me that thought there wouldn't be an iMac at this event. I thought it was a sure thing. So I was pretty disappointed when 35 minutes in, they were already done with the Mac portion of the event. :( Oh well. Back to waiting.

Apple are so full of contradictions. So the new MacBook Air has Touch ID so clearly either it is plenty secure enough for this product otherwise why no Face ID? Air owners get a headphone jack so in their world (as apposed to new iPad owners) the world isn’t craving wireless audio?

LOL what?

What about the price of the iMac Pro?
It certainly does not meet the needs of all iMac users.

So youre saying.. everyone who wants a 5k all in one is happy to pay like $5000-$7000?

Extra cost for a budget laptop. Not refined enough (yet) to put into thin laptop lids.

And TouchID is plenty secure enough. That's not an issue.

MacBook
....
Is this the end of the MacBook? It's not clear what Apple has in store for its thinnest, lightest machine, nor when it might see an update. With faster 8th-Gen processors and a Retina display in the new MacBook Air, the only real distinguishing feature between the MacBook and the MacBook Air is the MacBook's smaller size.
.....

Plans.... probably its turn to be left comatose for 2+ years before throw a A1xX chip in it , add a touch screen (mate the 12.9" iPad Pro's screen for volume pricing on screen tech), flip the name to 'iBook' , and install iOS. Perhaps drop all but one of the colors as the sales slow down and tank during the comatose years.

Apple chops the price also down below the MBA floor of $999 to perhaps $699-799 and sell it as a high priced Chromebook competitor. Pragmatically, an iPad Pro repacked into an aluminum clamshell.
