I fully expect ImaGen is intended to be pronounced as ‘Imagine” but I will always always always read it as “Imogen”.

ima-gen. 'Ima' for: image, 'gen' for generation. Imagine is silly, and confusing as no one know wtf you are talking about. Also, Ima-gen has that techy thing going. Imagine is something Apple would use, being .....well, courageous.

I'm guessing, blindly.

Project Mariner and Beam are cool. I'm curious how much bandwidth Beam will require to use, and what happens when a user's bandwidth dips below a recommended amount. AI's still going to get things wrong - the Chicago Sun Times' list this morning was embarrassing. I don't know how much patience I'll have for each company's models. Personally I don't feel like paying for the privilege to train the models. Early adopters will, I won't. I work in healthcare. I have to "trust but verify" on the regular.

I find the $0 I pay for the Google AI Air subscription to me more than worth it.

It's not that bad. Even more so since the AI that the Chicago Tribune used for a summer reading list hallucinated ten new titles from real authors. Currently AI exists to make economists and astrologers look respectable.

But Apple could announce that they are cancelling Apple Intelligence and removing the code from the OS. Then they remind everyone that Apple is first and foremost a hardware company, apologize for getting caught up in the AI hype, and they will of course make sure MacOS and IOS are capable of interacting with any AI you may choose to use. Furthermore they will not rule out reintroducing Apple Intelligence when the technology settles down and they are sure they can produce something useful to their customers.

Fall on sword gracefully, retreat to lick wounds, and watch for future opportunities. Sometimes it's the best you can do.
‘Made by a Human on a Mac’ is such an obvious marketing campaign as well.

Apple is just being beat like a drum on new tech, especially AI.
Someone throw the white towel in the ring!
I don’t think they are. Other companies Google included are betting big and spending billions. Investors are going to want to see a return for that. So they kind of have to keep pumping stuff out.

The video generation with dialogue is so impressive! I feel sad for people who study animation they're literally being rugpulled by AI
That certainly one viewpoint. Another is that the problem with animation is that it is a very slow process and that over the decades animators have been the drivers of new technology. Think Toy Story, Jurassic park.

They’ll do just as well out of this but be able to work faster.

Was nice to hear more about XR glasses. AI plans are getting costlier. Will not be surprised to see AI taking a main role in Google search in the future. Also it is nice to have Gemini Live on iPhones.

Subscription based AI is just doomed to fail. Whilst impressive it is very confusing too with all the acronyms and names. they need to just simplify it drastically. And stop charging people for it and Amazon too for that matter.

This was interesting

And here we are, sitting with an iPad Pro, which is more powerful than most laptops, and it is just an ordinary tablet. Just imagine: If you hooked it up to an external monitor, it could behave like a Mac. I think many would prefer going for it.

It’s kind of ironic that Google’s Gemini, ChatGPT, and even Claude can run on older iPhones, while Apple restricts its own upcoming AI features to only the newest devices. The hardware requirements argument feels pretty weak when third-party AIs are working smoothly on the same phones Apple is leaving behind.

This could seriously backfire for Apple. If people get used to using Gemini or ChatGPT daily for writing, searching, organizing, even interacting with their environment they might not care much about Apple’s native AI by the time it finally arrives on more devices. Worse, users may start to prefer the alternatives.

Apple is basically giving space for Google and others to establish themselves on iOS before Siri 2.0 even shows up. If the AI assistant you already rely on works across all your devices and integrates well with your workflow, why switch?

Apple’s tight control over features might help sell hardware in the short term, but it could cost them long term influence in how people interact with AI.

There is no future where I will wear Google augmented reality products. I'm sure if I were to stare at any item for too long, I would immediately receive marketing for that item. 🤣

The funny thing is at first it was comical how this whole Apple intelligence went down. To all the missed promises and finding out it was all vapor and fake. It was interesting to see a company so large make such a disastrous move.

But as it goes further and ChatGPT and Gemini expand their ai and features and now Gemini expanding ai features to work on the iPhone better than any ai feature iPhone has, it’s gone pass comical to sad. It’s like watching a baby get hit with a puppy.

Gemini and ChatGPT vs Apple intelligence is like comparing a guy riding in maybach to a guy walking with crutches. It’s hard to watch now.

And I’m an iPhone user and I’m like this is a beating
Your premise depends on people actually caring. I know people that use AI daily but most people I know don’t care at all.

5 years from now half or more of the AI products today will be gone. We are still in the Gartner hype cycle of AI products.

To quote Warren Buffett,
“We can afford to lose money - even a lot of money. But we can't afford to lose reputation - even a shred of
reputation.”

Apple are at the crossroads right now and at this point with their missteps and unrealised promises, no matter how liquid Apple are, their reputation is beginning to sour. I believe the leadership has become stale and focussed on “entertainment” instead of innovation and technical advancement. In the technology race, Apple have fallen behind the pack.
