I'd take just being able to control the aTV volume from the control center instead of having to use a physical remote. Seems silly that the Chromecast has been able to do this for forever, but not so much with aTV.

You can already do this.

Open the remote from Control Centre. Use your iPhone’s volume buttons and voila, your TV volume goes up or down.

This of course only works with TVs that can have their volume controlled from the HDMI port or for speakers connected to the AppleTV. If your TV can only have its volume controlled from an infrared remote, the iPhone doesn’t have an IR blaster so there’s nothing anyone can do to make it work.

You can already do this. Open Apple TV remote via control centre and change volume with the volume buttons on your iPhone. I found out the other day this works even if the Apple TV isn’t the current input in use, really useful

Are the little arrows an indication that we can do a simple discrete "click"? My attempts to navigate youtube are usually a disaster because I can't swipe just one item to the left/right. I always end up swiping too far :-(

I used to have the same problem. Then I learned, you don't have to swipe! Just a tap on the side you want the cursor to go will move it 1 space. Don't click it, just tap. It's still a pain to be perfectly honest, but I think it's considerably better than swiping all the time.

You can already control the  TV volume using the physical volume buttons on an iOS device when the  TV platter is open in control center. It’s one my favorite features!

Anyone else have issues with Apple TV Remote app not pairing with the TV? I noticed it stopped pairing after I installed iOS 12.2 beta 2. Just curious if anyone else has had that issue. My wife’s 7 Plus on iOS 12.2 beta 2 finds the Apple TV fine, not my XR.

I live in a Condo. If only there was a way to prevent all of my neighbors Apple TV's from showing up in my AirPlay device list.

If you’re able to stream to them, just send them something interesting to watch. Perhaps something “educational” from one of those x-rated sites. That will probably result in those pesky devices disappearing from your list.

On Airplay settings on your AppleTV, just switch from allowing close devices to only allow devices from your network (-;

Nope, they'll still show up. The only way to hide them is for neighbors to wise up and fix it on their end. Super annoying.

We live in a single family home and still have this issue...

It also means that any apple TV's you have are showing up in their lists too.

You can hide yours from your neighbors in the AirPlay settings (but not the other way around; only they can hide theirs from yours).

Not sure how you can get around hiding Apple TV's on the same network...

I don't have an Apple TV but I see other people's on my iMac Sound (Output) Preferences. The IDs seem to be coming in through my Wi-Fi and I can't find any way to turning it off.

It's actually coming in through Bluetooth (NFC), so could turn that off on your phone and Mac (if you don't use a wireless keyboard/trackpad/numpad).

A mute button would be a welcome addition. It is irritating that apps like Netflix suddenly play loud previews.

The Netflix app in general is a mess:
  • Won't remember login
  • Autoplays previews
  • Endless scrolling

You, sir are a god! I knew about this during playback--the completely unreliable jump forward or backward 10 seconds on every third mash when it feels like it if you're lucky--but I had no idea about navigating the home screen!

How does making the interface darker help when watching tv in the dark ?

Lighter would have been more useful, maybe an inverted mode ?

Maybe a white ring round the menu button like on the god awful physical remote ??

It's a simple setting in ATV to make it only show on your network. However, this won't disable seeing other exposed ATVs sadly. It does need a full personal wifi isolation mode.

Connect, take over their sound and play nursery rhymes. They'll find a way to turn it off eventually.

Sigh, still no volume buttons on the Apple TV remote?? Such a weird omission

I don’t understand. What do you mean by Apple TV platter? I opened the remote app and tried to use the physical buttons, but nothing happened

I think you’ll need to upgrade your condo to a larger space and potentially a larger lot. It’s the iApple advantage.

That would only prevent my Apple TV showing on their Airplay device list. If they have "allow nearby devices" enabled, I can still see their Apple TV's.

That's not the issue. I can see other Apple Tv's in the Airplay menu in my phone.
