Wow that “Sync Now” for messages has been long awaited.
Let’s hope it works. Remember if the sync worked in the first place this wouldn’t be needed. 😉

Why isn't Journal released on MacOS? Journaling requires typing and MacOS is the best platform for typing. iOS is not. I must be missing something.
Supposedly there was a lot of work put in to spellcheck and keyboard performance. I’m not seeing it. In fact if anything the lag and “AI 🤪” are worse.

Been like this since forever.
Let’s not get crazy. It;s been a while but not forever. 😉

These are what I'm looking forward to:
  • iMessage Contact Key Verification
  • Messages in iCloud Syncing (will it be fully encrypted and will it launch the Messages app in iCloud.com?)
Apple TV App - Since Apple increased the AppleTV+ price, I won't renew it. But I welcome the new UI.

Memoji - That's insane. I remember Apple mentioned there are 1 trillion combinations, so with adding the body, etc., will it be 2 trillion? Wow.

EDIT: I noticed Memoji isn't mentioned on this page but it is on the main page. I am so confused...

I never understood why Apple developed Journal... I mean, we have the Notes app. Actually, we have four in total: Notes, TextEdit, Stickies and Pages. Adding the 5th doesn't make sense.

Finally a digital clock widget... I still can not believe it took them this long to add this 😁

Apple Music Listening History Focus Filter

There is a Focus Filter for the Apple Music Listening History feature, so if you want to let someone else use your device to listen to music, you can activate this to turn off the Listening History so their song choices won't affect your recommendations.

Love this. I play brown noise or white noise when I sleep and have Sleep Focus on and I rather not have tracks like those pollute my listening activity or recommendations.

Interesting release for sure, contains some hints as to the way iOS and its devices may evolve.

I've kept sporadic journals over the years. This usually starts January 1st as one of my New Year's Resolutions. By Jan 3rd I'm all done until next year.

Maybe I can subvert the journal app to suit my use cases because recording my thoughts, life and times are definitely not something I see much value in doing. But I'm weird like that.

Looking forward to the Journal app. Would anyone know if there's any importing functionality? I think it would be relevant for many DayOne users.
I'm going to stick with DayOne until they come out with the Journal app for the Mac.

I have been thinking why journal is developed as a separate app rather than an extension to the great Note app.

To me, it sounds like a Note app writing with templates or/and auto incorporation of other sensitive info like location, date and time, mood, medication by using on-device intelligence.

Note app for the most abilities of the promised journal app, I rather like to have one single app than two.

Is the Favorites playlist only available in the US right now? I’m in Canada and don’t see it anywhere (I have installed 17.2 beta).

EDIT: Nvm, it just showed up a bit down my playlists list. Just took some time to generate I guess.

I currently use Notes for Journaling and find it's quite adequate for that purppse. I don't think the others are good for journalling but you probably could.

It's hard to say why they developed Journal specifically. Maybe to create awareness of the mental health benefits of journaling?

Journal App

iOS 17.2 includes the Journal app that Apple announced as part of iOS 17. With the Journal app, users can record their daily activities and thoughts, with Apple providing optional prompts that can be used as inspiration.

A Journal entry can be added by tapping on the "+" button in the Journal app, and from there, users can choose a suggestion as the basis for their writing or just opt for "New Entry" to write anything at all.

Entries are automatically tagged with a date for organizational purposes, but there are options for bookmarking, too. Journal entries can include images, voice recordings, and location tags.

OK - I'll say it:

The long awaited Apple Journal App sucks.

DayOne really has nothing to worry about competitively.

Apple has touted a huge part of the iOS 17 upgrade to be focused around their new Journal app.
Journal is supposed to be Apple's new native app focused on allowing iOS users to properly journal their daily life and it would effectively act as a central repository to tying one's life together.

Since it has been announced, the folks at DayOne have taken the high road by 'welcoming Apple into the journaling space' and claim that they don't see it as a threat, rather as a plus to the journaling community as a whole.

Well, crock of sh*t or not, they really officially have nothing to worry about because I can assure them that as-is in 17.2 Beta 1, the native Journal app stinks.

By the way, don't forget to vote over here and indicate your feelings about Apple's Journal app!

Has anyone tried the new AirPlay Receiver setting between an iPhone and iPad? Or does it only work between a Vision Pro and iPad? I really hope it just works to receive AirPlay from any Apple device, like AirPlay Receiver on macOS works. This would be amazing, and is something I’ve been hoping for for the last couple years. I’d be really disappointed if it only works for receiving AirPlay from a Vision Pro.

My clock widget on my iPad is blank. No amount of fiddling with it helped, nor did shutting down and restarting the iPad.

I stopped using Day One when they decided to become rentware. No thank you. Apple Journal app any day of the week.

Not if you can only type on the iPhone. I don’t use DayOne, but I know it’s cross platform and if you want to do any serious typing at all, you’re probably gonna be using a proper keyboard.

I think Apple Health is quite valuable, but I find it frustrating that it has no Mac counterpart.
