This is presumably because Apple is handling the Send Later on their servers, meaning your device doesn't need to be online or even turned on at the time of sending. They can't do that for SMS, because that's tied to your SIM.
Scheduled send is Server-Side. The moment you send a Scheduled Message, it is sent to iMessage servers. Even if you turn off your device, the Scheduled Message will still be delivered because it is handled in iMessage servers. That is not possible with RCS/SMS.So you can’t schedule a message to an Android user? WTF, Apple? How petty!
Agreed. All this and still no archiving. Crazy to me.
I can speak to my scenario. I am in a chat with some older folks for whom whatsapp or telegram are just not an option. Texting is hard enough so they just use the default to keep friends and family in the group up to date with their lives. RCS means no more blurry pictures and better compatibility because sms sending errors are fairly common.i live in central europe. groupchats are commonly done with whatsapp, independently of ios/android participants.
in which country is google rcs a thing?
what would change when iMessage supports google rcs?
Exactly! "Like" notifications drive me nuts. Yea, I just had to stop what I was doing to know that someone saw the thread. I don't mind the feature, but I definitely don't need a notification.Yet no alert separation of likes from new messages.
Well, that is just a poor excuse. Apple still feels the need to be divisive.Scheduled send is Server-Side. The moment you send a Scheduled Message, it is sent to iMessage servers. Even if you turn off your device, the Scheduled Message will still be delivered because it is handled in iMessage servers. That is not possible with RCS/SMS.
I use it to send birthday messages. I have coffee about 5:30 on weekdays getting ready for work. While I do, I look at my calendar items and schedule birthday messages for later in the day when people might be awake. I pick random minute times so its not exactly on the hour, it feels more untimed I think. Some people dont use focus modes so I keep them in mind when I send. That’s interesting. I can’t imagine a scenario where I would ever schedule a text.
No, they cant see the effect. I tested it.Do text effects and formatting work if you send to an Android or iOS 17 device?
I doubt this appeals to folks outside the loop. Its features for the sake of adding features, not value. As I stated above, if they were really serious about material improvements and safety RCS would have been a thing long ago.Well, my IQ is high enough that most of these features are not worth anything. But I'm sure that teenagers and 20 somethings having trouble getting through high school or college will find them quite valuable.
It's the competition, the pressure of WsUpMost years the iMessage updates seem dumb to me and useless. Eg the stickers and Messages “App Store”.
This year they’ve really hit it out of the park. Biggest thing is ability to do tapbacks with emoji like every other major messaging platform. No more cringe “HAHA!” reacts that come off as sarcastic. Genmoji will make this even more fun no. Maybe the boomers here won’t appreciate it
As usual, an Iuser that believes to be above the rules just because he/she has an Ithing...I sent messages via satellite on a recent flight. I was able to get a good enough signal through the window to use the feature. Surprised me.
What the heck does that have to do with what they said? You sure you're on the right thread...?As usual, an Iuser that believes to be above the rules just because he/she has an Ithing...
What? I’ll quote the great Walter Sobchak:As usual, an Iuser that believes to be above the rules just because he/she has an Ithing...
On a flight, nobody is authorized to have any kind of radio communicationWhat the heck does that have to do with what they said? You sure you're on the right thread...?
