Instead it's a case of "how much do I want to reorganise these icons?" vs. "how much time do I have to fix the ensuing disarray?"

I seriously have had that thought. I’d like to replace a few icons but I don’t want to deal with the hassle.

How has this gone unaddressed for so long? They spent all this time copying the Android always on display, and have for more than a decade ignored what essentially everyone agrees is a much better way to manage the home screen.

Apple: No you don't get it everybody you really need M1 to use this other chips just can't handle this and you need a lot of RAM we care about user experience blah blah blah

Also Apple: BAM! A12.

Pathetic. Now make it available for all the chips between A12 and M1.
I wonder if this is Stage Manager with full multitasking, on 128GB+ iPad Pros, or just the SM window manager.

I wish we could disable changing the wallpaper from the lock screen. After every time I use my flashlight now, I look at my phone wondering what in the world I hit to get into that edit screen. I never noticed that helpful tip until looking at this screenshot.
There should be an option to lock it or something, one of the few things I dislike about iOS 16. Overall, it’s a great update though :)

Hat down for making SM available to older iPads, Apple!
Why not like that from the beginning?
Why the previous public statements that it isn’t possible?
Suddenly it’s possible 😱
Did they find the clean coding book, or did Craig just talk **** as always?

Apple: our chips are awesome, beyond any competition, the very best, better than Android and Intel!

Also Apple: we cannot do a window manager on most our chips, and if we can, then only on the internal display.

I'm happy Apple reversed their decision on Stage Manager, except I just sold my 2020 iPad Pro/Magic Keyboard yesterday as I purchased a MacBook last month because iPadOS was becoming too difficult to use (or, I was getting tired of the simplicity) for long hours at school for research/writing and Stage Manager would've helped with that.... ahhh what timing lol oh well, good excuse to have a MacBook now, this thing is a beast
The Mac will be infinitely more useful when you need to get actual work done. You made the right choice.

You really want Stage Manager on the tiny Mini iPad screen? Even the iPad Pro 11" is already too small to make most use of it. I love my iPad mini, but Stage Manager doesn't belong on it.
A mini with proper external display support and Stage Manager would be interesting, but I suspect that it has the same limitation as the A12 Pros. I frequently use my mini with external displays and projectors for things like presentations anyway.

I don't think you have a thunderbolt port so no external display support like the A12 iPPs.
It’s true that it doesn’t have thunderbolt, but in theory it could be done over USB-C alone. Presumably the A12Z and A15 only have a single display stream in hardware given their designs as mobile chips, unlike the M1 which has two.

Because it doesn’t matter
I really wish the roll out of Matter devices wasn't taking so long, as I'm holding off buying any more smart devices until they are Matter compatible. There's no guarantee I'm staying in the Apple ecosystem forever, and I don't have any interest in buying something that only works with HomeKit that I would need to replace simply because me or my partner changed phones or started using Android products.

So external display support is gone when that was the only thing that actually made sense to run stage manage on? 🤔😔
It's not gone, it's delayed. Because it was still quite buggy in the previous beta. I'd rather have Apple wait on it and release it in iPad OS 16.2.

Hey calm down. Your always negative. Like is your whole life about complaining

Is it just me or does iOS 16 not reconnect to hidden SSIDs?

Not sure, but generally speaking hidden wifi is a bad idea. First, there are tools that let people quickly & easily identify hidden networks. Second, anytime your phone finds a hidden network, it will ask it “are you MySecretHiddenWiFiName”.

Still, I do hope they didn’t break it. Maybe remove and add again?

It’d be nice to be able to just swap the Home Screen wallpaper by itself. Find a pic, use as wallpaper, set as Home Screen only.
