Hat down for making SM available to older iPads, Apple!
Why not like that from the beginning?
Why the previous public statements that it isn’t possible?
Suddenly it’s possible
Did they find the clean coding book, or did Craig just talk **** as always?

What Apple did previously was tie stage manager to external display support (is there a proper term for that?) and market it under one umbrella term. In this context, I can see why Apple initially limited it to M1 Macs. They likely envisioned the two working in tandem to enable a particular desired experience (maybe to give it feature parity with the Mac) and didn’t want to separate the two.

That older iPads are only getting stage manager (which I doubt that many people are interested in) and not external monitor support (which is really what more people want) suggests that this indeed is a memory issue at work.

Little has changed really.

Custom lock screens needs an option for font borders. Some wallpaper colors don't work right with light colors and fonts

Only 50% (half the apps and no external display support) of SM is possible.

I’ve been so pumped for external display support and using it daily, and of course, apple removed it...

It was to bring stage coach support for the older Ipads. They probably had to do code rework for the single screen display and now have to do more work to get it working where multiple displays are done on certain devices.
Apple: No you don't get it everybody you really need M1 to use this other chips just can't handle this and you need a lot of RAM we care about user experience blah blah blah

Also Apple: BAM! A12.

Pathetic. Now make it available for all the chips between A12 and M1.
So you read a few sentences of the article? They removed a major part of stage manager to get it working reliably on non M1 ipads (external screen support). They missed a market for the functionality on just the ipad screen itself.

I wish we could disable changing the wallpaper from the lock screen. After every time I use my flashlight now, I look at my phone wondering what in the world I hit to get into that edit screen. I never noticed that helpful tip until looking at this screenshot.

This is why I had to disable Tap to Wake. Such a moronic implementation it almost defies logic.

Many times I’d take the phone out of my pocket and my Lock Screen would be all messed up, widgets added or deleted, wallpaper changed etc. Just from holding the phone while I walked too.

Did they disable following live sports (MLB in this case) with the Dynamic Island?? I was following a game, then decided to update and now it doesn’t have the “follow” button.

I'm happy Apple reversed their decision on Stage Manager, except I just sold my 2020 iPad Pro/Magic Keyboard yesterday as I purchased a MacBook last month because iPadOS was becoming too difficult to use (or, I was getting tired of the simplicity) for long hours at school for research/writing and Stage Manager would've helped with that.... ahhh what timing lol oh well, good excuse to have a MacBook now, this thing is a beast
Don’t buy, sell, or do anything until the public versions are out on all your stuff and THEN you’ll know what you need, I foolishly believed the hype and got a MacBook Pro Monterey (intel) to go with my iPad Pro 2020 and the new tweaks and the boondoggles keep changing everything…AND it isn’t even out yet…

It's not gone, it's delayed. Because it was still quite buggy in the previous beta. I'd rather have Apple wait on it and release it in iPad OS 16.2.

I’ve been using Stage Manager on an external monitor since the very first release every day. Apart from windows jumping between screens there were very few bugs that needed fixing. This is (as other people mentioned) probably been ‘delayed’ due to the fact that Apple went back on their decision and decided to release Stage Manager on older devices. Which really stings more than the external display “delay” as some of us actively went out and bought an M1 iPad for these M1 only features.

Anyway. Lets hope it is just a delay, but my original point still stands, Stage Manager is pretty useless on the iPad itself and its main use was on an external display, so it becomes a pointless release without external displays and both should probably have been ‘delayed’ so we can continue to beta test them together.

It’d be nice to be able to just swap the Home Screen wallpaper by itself. Find a pic, use as wallpaper, set as Home Screen only.
That was an option in photos before that they took out right? I thought maybe i was remembering wrong…

Edit: Oh i see it’s still there but you have to change both. Yeah that seems a bit rushed or possibly an oversight.

Give us external display on non-M1 ! Haha

I’m impressed that apple went back on their decisions recently, looks like they are trying to avoid bad press
More like they realized people are no longer buying their 🐂💩

Yes, it’s actually highly comical because in early versions of iOS you could move the icons around with much, much less inaccuracy. Now icons just fly around all over the place and it’s difficult to even place an app in a folder.

The best way to describe iOS app placement is like trying to place magnets where you want them when their poles are repulsing
They did the same thing (ruining something that worked perfectly fine) a few iOS versions ago when it became more tedious to select/highlight/copy text and words. When they did it at the time, it was marketed as a feature, not a mistake, but with no way to toggle back to the better old way in settings.
