I recently purchased and received my iPhone 12 Pro on launch day and I’m very strongly considering jumping to the 12 Pro Max when it comes out.

Problem is, if I order the 12 Pro Max, by the time I receive it I will be outside of the 14 day return policy for my 12 Pro.

I have already traded in my iPhone X, so I wouldn’t be able to go back to it to return my 12 Pro while waiting for the 12 Pro Max.

Any suggestions? I feel like Apple will honor extended returns given the circumstances (staggered release), but I’m not quite sure.

Side note: I did consider initiating a return for my 12 Pro next Thursday (13 days in) and just waiting to send it out upon receipt of the 12 Pro Max but I don’t know how long Apple gives you to actually send the device back.

Side note 2: I paid full price for my device, it is not financed nor on AUP, if it makes a difference.

Okay ! Here is it ....

on next friday , go to apple store and exchange to the regular 12 ! Whatever color , so , this way will make you have new 14 days window again ...

And on preorder day , pre order the promax and paid for that ! And when you received it / or pick up instore on 11/13 , return the 12 you did from an exchanged !

DONE !

14 days from the day you initiate the return process. So if you did 11/5/2020, you have till 11/19/20 for apple to receive it.

I really dislike when folks purchase something without purchase intent. This is the exact example. Bridge some time because you can.

So , their money , they can do anything they want ! Dont teach people how to use money , everybody have their way to spent !

Good one - There is no money spent. It’s deposited back to the person faking to be a consumer. It’s an unsocial attempt at renting without paying for it.

I have nothing against purchasing something with the intent of ownership. Which is what the purchase should be all about.

It’s apple’s fault for not releasing them all at the same time.
How are we supposed to know how good something is without trying it?
it’s a completely different size this year
So people won’t know at all how it will be different. And with this pandemic
It’s much more difficult to try it in person.

No, don’t make up artificial faults to justify a free rental scheme that’s being suggested here. Anybody can wait until both devices are available. But you don’t want to wait. That is the core of the vault.

It was then suggested to make an fake purchase in the middle just to walk around with a smartphone because oh how bad would life be without one for a few days before the one gets released that the OP now considers. It’s not enough to get 14 days no questions asked, we now think it’s ok to get intermediate phones for free.

I think it's taking away units somebody wanted when people start getting these just to turn around to return them. Especially when the device isn't defective but you just wanted to have a new device with the intention to get a different model.

Of course I'm not a fan of returning anything unless it's defective because I worked retail. I've seen how this can affect prices/return policies in the long run.

Yup, and just do that 25 more times and you’ll find yourself trading your phone in for a 13 Pro Max. Just like that.

lol

and my name will be on blacklist fron Apple . If I remember correctly , Bestbuy have their own system for people return too much and blacklisted them for return , purchased just fine , but NO NO for return .

Look, we’ve all been in hard spots and I’m not casting judgment on anyone who uses a companies return policy according to the rules. But don’t try to rationalize buying without purchase intent as anything other than what it is - a bit of a sh***y thing to do. If you’re going to do that, go for it, but don’t kid yourself about what you’re doing.

Initiate an online return at the 13 day mark, and it will automatically extend the return date for your phone. Problem solved without lying, cheating or wasting Apple’s time.

Im buying all four with the exact intent of keeping them all. Its my gift for last year when I just bought one

yes mate they will be looking down on you judging you exercising your consumer rights from the top of their $200bi cash pile

Oh when they have money they can be abused as a free rental service? Interesting justification. Last heard from teenagers when caught stealing, that’s usually the same juvenile attempt at an excuse.

Worst case throw it on eBay or another site and you may break even. I bought mine the day after release in store so ya if I decide to go back to a big phone and only reason is if I the camera is that amazing. I’ll order it and do my best to return and use my moms old iPhone 6 for a week or so. Otherwise eBay, Facebook etc. it’s my fault for buying early. I have to own up to it.

I would agree if it was a smaller company but we all know that Apple charge vastly inflated prices for everything from a power cable up to wheels for your Mac Pro, so in this case, I think it's ok.

It’s principle. Return fraud sucks, every time. You’re blocking a real customer from a real purchase. The profit margin doesn’t make abusing the system any better.

Just ignore the people who are bringing thinly-veiled morality into this discussion. The Apple return policy is what it is. It’s not like they don’t know people would do something similar to what you’ve done. If they didn’t think it was acceptable, they’d change their policy. In other parts of the world, they have a completely different policy. I think in parts of Asia if you even open the box, you can’t return the phone.

Thinly veiled. LOL. Thinly veiled return fraud. Another apologist from the too-cheap-to-rent camp.

Most businesses want a customer friendly return policy in the 21st century and just have to live with the kids who play the return fraud game in order to not give real customers a hard time. That doesn’t make it anything better than what it is.
