So some people here are saying a person can exchange/return an iPhone purchased from Apple.com / the Apple store app in the physical Apple store and some are saying you cannot. I tried calling mine but the phone rings forever (I'm sure they're crazy busy). Does anyone have a definite answer on this?

You cannot. It says so on Apple's return policy page. Link posted in post 24.

Incorrect. I did it last night in Omaha, Nebraska. Bought a 6 Plus online and received it on launch day and exchanged it last night at an Apple store for an iPhone 6. If it says you can't on the website then the website is wrong or the store at Village Pointe in Omaha broke the rules...

Then it's worth giving it a shot. Just don't be disappointed if they turn you away.

Well, I went to att to see the standard 6 and IMO it's too small. I'll be keeping my 6 Plus ;)

FYI if other people plan on returning/exchanging and you signed a new contract, you have to wait 24-72 hours before you can re-sign. It has to reset in the system.

Also, I spoke to apple.com support on the phone yesterday and they said I you can return to the store even if you ordered off apple.com. He said it's probably easier if you just ship it back to them though. They will send you a pre-paid fedex label.

I can confirm you can return in store. Just did it today and exchanged the 6 plus for the 6.

FALSE. I did this yesterday. I signed new 2-year contract when I ordered 6+ from apple.com and exchanged it to iPhone 6 at my local apple store. I even asked about "system reset" time and the guy said it takes few seconds. My whole visit took about 10 minutes. I'm on grandfathered unlimited data plan and that transferred over to my new 6 from 6+ without a problem. So please don't spread false information about 24-72 hour reset times.

When you exchanged it for the 6, what was actually done? Did you return it and order a 6 to be delivered to the store, or delivered to you?

I walked into my local apple store and said I want to exchange my 6+ (which was ordered from apple.com) to 6. I erased 6+ right there after the guy told me they have 6 in stock. Then he scanned my receipt and said the $100 difference will go back to my credit card. He checked the 6+ box that everything was in it and handed me the new 6. That was it.

They processed the plus as a return and then I just bought the 6. They called the Verizon store upstairs and the guy rolled my upgrade back. There is no waiting period and a Verizon employee can force it if necessary. I just went on apple to reserve a phone and found a store near me with stock.

Did they just stick your SIM card from your Plus into your 6?

No the 6 was specifically for Verizon and already had a SIM card either in it or the specialist popped it in. In not sure. They just activated it as an upgrade on their end.

I'm on AT&T, 2 year contract, grandfathered unlimited plan. No, they did not swap any sim cards or called AT&T or anything. They just scanned my receipt of 6+ and brought out the new 6. Then he input some of my information into his phone and I signed it. Thats it.

According to the link, you can EXCHANGE in store if bought on apple.com, but you cannot RETURN in store. If doing a return, you'd have to ship it if you bought it online.

The elgibility reset is what an ATT rep told me on the phone, but you are correct. I went into the Apple store today and exchanged my 6+ for a 6 and they did it instantly. Pretty happy I didn't have to wait.

I ordered my iPhone 6 Plus on Apple.com and want to exchange it for an iPhone 6. My Apple store is 2 hours away so I was wondering if I would be able to exchange it at my local AT&T store or if I absolutely have to do it at an Apple store?

For what it's worth: my wife and I both pre-ordered 6 Plus phones on Apple.com for our AT&T accounts, using AT&T Next ( as opposed to buying outright or upgrading w/ 2 yr contract ). We received the phones on launch day. My wife decided last night the Plus was too big and wants a 6. Like you, the closest Apple store is over 2 hours away.

At lunch today I went into my local AT&T store and they took care of it. They didn't have any stock, but essentially placed an order for a 6 and will call when it arrives - roughly 2-3 weeks. My wife will continue using the Plus until the 6 comes in and then I will take it to the store for exchange. I was in and out in 15 minutes.

Interesting

Just a quick update on the AT&T exchange: her new phone came in today, I went in to the local store, and walked out about 30 minutes later with her new, activated 6. It went great.

And actually, I am swapping my plus to the 6 and they didn't have a problem with that either.

I've been trying to exchange my apple.com phone I bought with next to an apple.com phone on a 2 year contract (Att grandfathered unlimited), and it's proved impossible short of sending the phone back in the mail and playing the impossible to find iphone 6 plus gold 128gb game. :(

I think Apple Store online purchases have to be returned to Apple. I bought my 6+ online and returned it in one of my local stores no problem.

They let you use it for over 14 days and will exchange it?

Yes. The original shipping estimate for her 6 was 2-4 weeks... Well past the 14 day exchange - she would have kept her plus until the 6 arrived. My local AT&T store just want the exchange initiated within 14 days.
