MR has been posting articles like this for years. It's nothing new. I remember complaining about one a long time ago, but I think it's nice to have them occasionally. Gives something different to read.

In Arn We Trust™ :D

I find it interesting that a lot of people who have registered for the forums within the last year or two are complaining about this sudden influx of unwanted ads on the front page, while a lot of people who have been on the site for years are interested in the posting and/or not bothered by it... Macrumors has always posted news articles on software, this is nothing new. But I can see how it might seem odd with the recent switch of focus to iOs stuff and the lower amounts of Mac stuff that have resulted.

I'm pretty sure that Arn owns this site, and is entirely free to post the content that he finds interesting and newsworthy. Should you strongly disagree with his interests, there are plenty of other sites on the web. If you leave, Arn doesn't have to pay for the bandwidth you use, so everybody wins.

Anyway, to get back on topic, that is an incredibly well made teaser video. The app also looks rather interesting. Like most others here, I'm not really in the target market so I don't see myself buying it, but I'm looking forward to playing with it.

It's an interesting interface and looks quite pretty. I think the big thing is the penultimate screenshot though. The ability for a casual computer user to easily set up envelopes addressed to various services using an easy-to-understand metaphor, then simply right click on any item in the finder and "send to x" is quite nice. I could explain this to my parents.

Gonna grab the demo of it to check it out. Thanks to Realmac for writing some interesting and innovative software, and thanks to Arn for bringing it to my attention.

Sure, we agree MR sells ads, they have to keep the website running. Nobody faults them for that.

I scanned the posts, a few things stuck out at me.

1) We don't "owe" Arn anything, nor do we need to be "thankful" to him. Readers allow him to get paid, not advertisers.

2) I didn't see the post, but if this 'Arn' is already telling people to leave, then that says a lot for what matters to MR.....$$$$. Ironically, it's greed that ends up losing you the most money in the long run.

3) My first thought was also, "Why is this front page news? It must be something really intriguing.....Hmmm - nope. Giant AD."

It's like pornography - it's hard to define, but you know it when you see it. This was a sellout, and Arnie, like it or not, will have an effect on traffic. Us web users are a fickle bunch, and I agree with the others - much more of this crap and I'll hop on over to the next rumor site. There are plenty of others....

I'm surprised at the level of animosity regarding this post. I, for one, appreciate MacRumors for highlighting new software releases and such. My life didn't change at all in a negative fashion because this was a front page post vs page 2, except I now know there is a new piece of software being released.

Lighten up people.

It's as much an "ad" as this Steam preview was: https://www.macrumors.com/2010/05/0...for-mac-including-portal-and-team-fortress-2/
which is to say, not at all. :)

We preview some Mac and iOS software from time to time. They aren't paid ads. They all can't be "Steam for Mac" caliber announcements, but it's relevant Mac content that is exclusive to this site, and from a long term Mac developer. If you'd rather, we could always post another Verizon iPhone rumor. :)

If you wish to make software reviews a more common occurrence, I would suggest a new section just for reviews; and have front-page mentions be, at most, one paragraph plus one picture.

Dear god you people make a lot of noise over nothing.

I don't have much use for the app myself, but I'm pretty sure there's plenty out there who do. And the UI is nice.

This isn't a review... It's a sneak peak at an unreleased new app by a major indie developer. That's front-page news in my book.

I actually thought this was interesting, definitely not a huge problem some are making it out to be. You can ignore the post, just saying.

I, for one, appreciate the info although I personally have no use for the software...

For all you Drama Queens threatening to leave, please do.

I don't mind it if arn sells ads next to the content. But when the content becomes the ad I am out if here.
The site is called macrumors. Please post macrumors. Not "previews"

It's not your site so you don't get to decide what belongs on it.

Honestly, I wish all of you threatening to leave would just freaking actually do it instead of making idle threats as if the rest of us give a flying rat's pa-toot whether you leave or not. I, for one, would be THRILLED if you'd actually leave and let the rest of us to enjoy the site instead of voting negative all the time and crying about everything not made by Apple or blessed by the almighty Jobs. Go over to MacWorld and whine about how lousy they run their site and see how fast you get banned instead.

No need to defend yourself Arn. No big fuss when Photoshop and iLife or App Store apps and all those other pieces of software get free publicity on the front page.

Another week and school will be back in session - hopefully that'll mean a lot of people have less free time to post. :D

I couldn't care less about this software; but Arn has the right to put whatever he wants on the site. I interpreted it as less of an ad, and more of an attempt to branch out a bit. Others see it as an ad, and are free to call a spade a spade; but the level of vitriol is ridiculous.

Who? Google says that's the name of a gay porn star, who I assume is not a member of the MacRumors forums, at least not posting under his own name. And it would certainly be an inappropriate user name (against the "sexually explicit" rules, you see) for anyone else. ;)
I concur - both the user name and sig are flagrantly inappropriate for this site, the latter, especially, being in discordance with the forum rules pertaining to 'sexual content.'

That aside, I'm looking forward to checking out Courier. The Realmac software, not the doomed Microsoft concept that showed J "Don't Call Me James" Allard the exit. :)
In other news - The concept video endeavor known as Project Natal has been dramatically reduced, watered down, and re-branded as Kinect.

"J" has left the builiding.......

No, it is an ad. I love how you tell him to basically go **** himself, maybe you should remember that it was members like him that you needed a few years ago when this site was still a joke. I guess you don't need members anymore since you passed your latest milestone. Thanks for treating members like dirt!

+1

So this app is 64-bit only? Guess my '06 iMac CD is out, then. Seems way too early for requiring 64-bit, IMO.

As for the whole "ad" argument, I'm just glad to see MR post something. The kool-aid soaked AppleInsider seems to have twice the articles MR does, it's like a graveyard around here.

I do not disagree...

Guys, scroll past if you're not interested. Does it really inconvenience you that much?

I was being needlessly negative. I dumped starbucks on my lap and I fear that resulted in me dumping attitude on this page. At least it is about the Mac and not about iOS, and just because a lot of us do not consider it to be a rumor and visit the site a lot does not mean that it is our site or that our opinion is that important or relevant.

Sorry.

Some of you guys are just pathetic, seriously.

If this site was MacRumors 100% of the time I would die (Not really but you know what I mean:rolleyes:). You guys would rather listen/read to something that might happen as oppose to a developer making software for the Mac? I didn't really feel like this was an ad. Honestly guys, it felt like a "What's Inside" type of preview.

If Arn made money or not it's HIS site. No one wants to be underground forever. There should be more ads and previews like this (As long as it's for the Mac community) because hearing the same stuff gets dated and boring (see - Verizon Rumors). GO get a life and find a cliff/or hobby if you have a problem with the content displayed.

When we had the "Microsoft Copies Get a Mac Campaign" Everyone didn't say "This isn't Rumor related." You guys was just bashing Microsoft like always (Which I agreed with;)). So just chill.

When this posted yesterday I read the title and saw no use for me, and kept scrolling. That's all you have to do next time. Arn doesn't need YOU (Specifically) and YOU'RE not obligated to stay here if you don't like what the MR staff post. :)

Last time I checked AidenShaw's sig it stated his opposition to Prop 8. Not sure how a request for equality can be construed as breaking forum rules on 'sexual content'. Perhaps to make MR a nicer environment you could try a little harder to conceal your homophobia.
