Now that's an app I would pay for! Something that would routinely scan forum commentary to identify the never-ending stream of Apple bashers, trolls and astroturfers that flood the MacRumors forums these days and automatically add them to my Ignore list. Comment keywords: fanboy(s), cult, koolaid, crApple, Starbucks, etc.

The noise around here has become deafening. Surely this is a problem that could benefit from some computerized automation.

Is "Aiden Shaw" one of the keywords as well? ;)

So.....

Press Releases now make the main page?

I'm pretty sure the subheader of the website says "Apple Mac Rumors and News You Care About." (emphasis mine)

Press Releases are a form of news. Too many people on these forums seem to stop at the first part and don't realize that Macrumors.com has always given us rumors and news.

Who? Google says that's the name of a gay porn star, who I assume is not a member of the MacRumors forums, at least not posting under his own name. And it would certainly be an inappropriate user name (against the "sexually explicit" rules, you see) for anyone else. ;)

That aside, I'm looking forward to checking out Courier. The Realmac software, not the doomed Microsoft concept that showed J "Don't Call Me James" Allard the exit. :)

iTunes has tons of visual metaphors. The app appears resizable and might be on the larger size, but it's not crazy huge. If they had implemented the standard source list it would probably taken even more space. What would your ideal UI look like for an app like that?

I am not an interface designer, but something clean and professional looking would do just fine. Here's an example of Google Picasa uploader interface, which does a similar thing:

That Courier was right up there with MS Bob...imagine millions of households decorated with those beautiful coffee tables...

Off-topic: I am listening to a great prog metal album by Pagan's Mind...Celestial Entrance...recommended!

"Macheads" term changed to "********s"

This is a site devoted to rumours about Apple related products. Apple has like 8 products, so that means there are some rumours, but no real news for about 348 days a year. I think it's nice to see things about things that are actually being released. I'm happy this made it to the front page. It's nice not to see a nano case for 5 days straight as the no.1 story.

It's becoming that I get embarrassed that I'm one of these "Mac people" because of all the whiny losers on this site. Get a grip. There are only a handful of Mac software developers and as soon as one gets some coverage, half the people in here put the beat down on them. MacApper doesn't really do a good job of covering all this and Download.com and Versiontracker don't really have the editorial aspect, so I'm glad to see some of this somewhere.

You realize that that app's interface is bigger right? Also it's dealing with a different metaphor. With Courier, you're uploading one collection to multiple groups of social sites as I understand it. For the average person who's not all that savvy, it's not the easiest concept to grasp, and I think they did a pretty good job translating it into a metaphor anyone can understand.

If I sent that screenshot of Picasa's uploader interface, she would probably need help to figure it out. With Courier, the interface is VERY simple. It takes a lot of work to not fill the screen with tons of toggles, tabs, switches etc. My mom could probably figure out Courier on her own (although she's probably not in the target market).

Another interesting feature of the app is that it seems to focus on expanding horizontally. Mac screens of recent years tend to have a lot more horizontal real-estate than in the past, and it's nice to see an app take advantage of that.

The Apple Spain Store (@ 2 pg) I believe is more apple MR pg1 newsworthy than an app like this (Cool but not really revolutionary). If it's a plug at least put a disclaimer on it and we will understand it more since is expensive to maintain so many of us here...

AGREE with you! 100% also take into account that almost nobody knows about the Apple stores opening here! and it makes page 2, MR seems to be going down hill lately...will have to find a new site to get real mac news and rumors

I personally won't buy it, simply because I don't have a need for it, but I must admit that I like this concept; sharing (a) file(s) to different on-line services, all at once. Great idea.

Hey. It might need a few tweaks, but it looks like a handy little tool [read: simple] for easy file sharing. Still wondering about the [initial?] omission of both iDisk and MobileMe support. Why is that?

LOL Poor guys. They must have been really busy... the website still reads: "Available in about a week".

p.s. Are all negative posters here using some sort of other tool to do similar tasks, at once, or am I missing something [I'm not that much of a file sharer, obviously]?

I disagree with the Steam comparison—releasing Steam for Mac was an important landmark for gaming on the Macintosh, where finally a large, well-established gaming entity was committing itself to the Mac platform. That's definitely news.

Courier is just another product.

Not that I'm complaining, it looks interesting and I'll have to try it out. Just saying. ;)

Guys, scroll past if you're not interested. Does it really inconvenience you that much?

Considering the article^H^H^H^H^H^H^H advertisement appears larger on the main page than any recent actual "rumor" or story about an Apple product, yes, it inconveniences me quite a bit.

I seem to recall this happened to both SpyMac and MacSlash before they each disintegrated.

I have no problem with MacRumors selling ad space. Even fairly large ad space, such as large up-top banners and tall on-the-side skyscrapers. But to put what is rather obviously a press release as if it was a story is abominable. If it were a true "preview" of a piece of software that people were clamoring for, it would be one thing (like say a preview of Starcraft 2 before it went into public beta;) but this? Yes, it's mildly useful, but does it deserve so many column-inches of space? No.

MR: I hope you got paid a rather significant amount for this advertisement; as you're likely to lose a lot of readers. I'll let it slide once, but you've already done this on Page 2 once, so if I see another occurrence, I'm out of here.

I am grateful for companies that make great Mac apps. I just can't embrace anything that supports the social networking disease.

Way to go, drama queen. You'd fit right in to any social network.

That Picasa interface is only about 500x500 pixels, and it represents a good balance of useful visual data (photo thumbnails), and application controls (ability to set size of uploaded photos, adding album captions, etc).

On the other hand, the screenshots of that Courier apps are all eye candy and not a lot of function. For example, do you really need to see a full map of US with a dotted line between the two pushpins to represent that the photo has been "sent"? I understand the developer is trying to differentiate this app from a myriad of other apps that already do similar things, so he's going for flashy UI. Or perhaps he's trying to dumb it down to "your mom" type users (who I'd be amazed would be very likely to use social media apps in the first place, as you rightly pointed out).

In any case, to me - all these bookshelves, envelopes and maps are just pure distraction. There is SOME argument that they may add value in a touch-based iOS app, where you can touch and move objects around.. But they're useless eye candy in a non-touch desktop environment.

1. It's not an ad.
2. We will have previews like this in the future. This is part of a spectrum. One end is Steam preview (not the announcement, but actual hands on preview).
3. You may as well leave now.

It seems like you're the only one who's thinking this. If you want to leave, by all means go (no one's stopping you).

I was hoping someone had copied the Microsoft Courier concept to the iPad..

Haha I thought that too!

I will give them props on the UI design. It looks really nice! Great melding of Mac OS and iOS elements and design. Good job guys! :)

wtf?

I visit this site daily, but post one more "Commercial" like that as a story again and I will start visiting this site a whole lot less. If companies want an add then let them buy banner add. This wasn't major software. This is like MacHeist giveaway stuff.

Because I'd rather see this kind of thing on prmac.com, which is where it belongs. This is a rumor site for things Mac and Apple related. This is not a place [well, not the front page] to be pushing ware. There are specific forums here for that on MR. The front page should not be selling out for 3rd party app developers to buy article space on. That's why there are text and banner ads here, so that things like this can go there, and MR can make money on the ads, and not spamvertisements like this. :(

/vjl/

Until today I have never heard of prmac.com and if you hadn't mentioned the site, I still would not know about it. I have been following Apple since the Apple ][e. My point? I am sure that MacRumors gets a lot more traffic than prmac.com

I've noticed the peanut gallery has been noticeably silent in this thread. Normally, they would gang up and call the people criticizing this story as "trolls", but I guess they are keeping their mouths shut because they agree with the "trolls".
