If true, that is good news, in relation to dealing with the huge issue of scalpers that make up much of these lines.

Yeah, it sucks for genuine Apple fans, though they will have to reserve now.

Something needs to be done to address these lines. Thumbs up to apple

While I think it's a good idea, Apple needs to be careful they don't cross the line into the cocky side... nobody wants to support them if they seem arrogant, or like they're doing you a favor by allowing you to buy from them.

How about a iPad pro.

I don't even see a market for big tablets in the future, I just see full-OS laptops\hybrids taking over the gap between the retina mini and the iPad. If you think about it, if they added a reverse hinge and added touch screen, the macbook would be just like a surface.

Oh, no, that would be c-o-n-v-e-r-g-e-n-c-e, which is spelled "Microsoft." and just kidding, sort of.

I am very interested in the iPad pro.
I find the new macbook to be an extreme niche product.

You don't think a giant iPad with a port is a niche product?would be a useless product IMO. I would love to see a Surface Pro 3 styled iPad Pro running OS X. Now that would be useful.

I, too, am quite interested in the iPad Pro. Been waiting though all the rumors for years. Also the soon to be released Surface Pro 4 is surposed to be a big jump. They both should be very interesting.

I tried the Surface Pro 3 and it was close but still lacking a little for me. We shall see.

We agree in a way. I need a full OS tablet or hybrid for field use and would not mind seeing an MBAir with a fold back hinge. My problem is that I need to run Windows for AutoCad and QuickBooks. It is a scared time for me as BootCamp will be only supporting Win8/10 soon and my beloved Win7 Pro will be history. I hope that AutoDesk has their stuff together as AutoCad run all too well on Win 7. Time will tell.

My major concern is that Aplle not allow the iPad Pro more freedom than other Apple Products. I need a real file system and a SD card slot would be helpful. I am also looking at the future Surface Pro 4 which is surposed to be a big boost over the Surface Pro 3.

I was hoping for an iPad Pro this spring as my entry into iPads. To me it was kind of disappointing to see an overpriced MacBook instead.

Niche product? Nah, just overpriced. If it was at the same price as the baseline 13" MBA it would do quite well, although the lack of ports does reduce its usability to all but basic users.

Yeah, it's only a matter of time....

iPad user: hey wouldn't it be great if we had a 11 inch "iPad Pro"

Macbook 12" user: gosh I wish next year they'd add a touch screen.

Tim: dang it, they're on to me. Behold, the 2016 Macbook! Touch screen, reversible touch screen, full OS, but can also run in hybrid iOS mode!

It's not just a pipe dream, it's inevitable.

I guess we were all gelded when Jobs took away our optical drives.

Opticals were a different story altogether.
I completely stopped using CDs somewhere between 2000 and 2005.
They were pretty dead before the Air was released.

USB3, thunderbolt, sd, hdmi and ethernet ports on the other hand can not be as easily replaced. Where I usually stay, there is so much radio interference, that wifi and bluetooth is constantly disturbed by various sources. Cables fix those problems and keep connections stable. I also own loads of drives and other externals, that I want to be able to connect.

If i want an ultraportable device, I take my ipads. And a larger iPad Pro would be well worth a closer look.

That's somewhat surprising, considering in 2005 and even 2008 when the original Air was released most software still came on disks. Today things are different.

Am the opposite; one is a locked down with no file system, one is an ultraportable Notebook with desktop OS. Unless Apple do something drastic with the iPad Pro, it`s just a bigger iPad, with all the limitations of IOS, equally if it meets your need all power to you.

Q-6

Assuming the iPad Pro actually comes to fruition, it will be interesting to see how things sort out with a Mac that has a smaller screen than an iPad!

Only major software came on discs and after you install it, it goes into a box in the cellar, never to be seen again.

Everything else was available as a download starting in 1999. I don't remember exactly, but I think even large programs were available as downloads. So were mp3s. I remember the first time a friend showed me his mp3 player in 1999. I was still using casette tapes back then. I never really adapted to CDs as a music medium, I went from records and tapes (and the .wav format) straight to mp3.

In 2008 the CD was as a relict from times long passed.

I haven't listened to a CD in at least 10 years. I just bought a new car, and I can't for the life of me figure out why they still waste space in a dash for a CD player. If you've ever taken a CD drive out of a computer or car, you'll see how big it is, it's not a small footprint considering how little it does compared to today's USB thumb drives that work in most cars, certainly not to forget about bluetooth every car has now too.
