The hub workers just give eye rolls and big "sighs" as they tell me to sign and throw the box down on the table. I apologize for making them work more. UPS shouldn't offer customer pick up option if it's not part of their job. ;)

This is why I don't pick up at my hub. Did it once, and once was enough for me. I've no desire to be treated like the gum stuck to someone's shoe.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm going to chance it. I've already updated it to route it to the closest UPS Store to my work. My phone hasn't even shipped yet (it's in TN and will be overnighted). I had called the UPS Store I'll pick it up at the other day and they said the truck usually delivers in the morning. It seemed then that the chances were good I'd be able to get it before they would have delivered at my house. @flur's post is encouraging. Thanks, too, to @Supermallet and @Travisimo for responding.

Last year, I wasn't home for my 6 delivery and called from work to have it left at the hub. They said they would open at 8PM for everyone who missed deliveries. There was a line but it wasn't huge. The problem was that it took forever to find some people's packages . There was a just a big store room where all the deliveries were left in. Overall, not a horrible experience.

My store usually gets deliveries btw 10-11 and they usually call me by 11:30 for pick-up (though last time I think they called me closer to 10am). As signature-required deliveries usually don't show up at my house until about 7pm, it's a much better deal picking up at my local store.

Ah, so the store should call me when it gets there? That's even better. I was planning on stopping by around noon, but if I can have my new toy an hour or more earlier, all the better. :)

You can also set up alerts so that when it's scanned in at the store you'll get a text (or an alert from the MyChoice app, if you have that).

ETA:
I don't know for sure if all the stores do the calls, but mine has called me every time.

How do we tell if its UPS or FEDEX? Will we be getting an email with a tracking number soon?

If we call ahead could I go Friday AM to the local hub near me and pick it up before I go to work? i'm in Hartford area CT.

Will apple put in the Trackin # in the order details once they get it?

I signed up for a myUPS account (the free version) and info appeared there. Apple still says "Preparing for Shipping" in my account, and because of myUPS, I know that this is because my phone is going to be overnighted. It already has a tracking number and everything.

But how did MY UPS link your apple order with itself? It finds it with your address?

Based on address of the recipient.

OK, I signed up for my ups, now how do i track from my address? my apple shipment says preparing for shipment as of today.

I see track by number, reference number. Nothing for track by address. What if my PKG is coming by fedex. thats why i am curious lol I guess ill have to wait for an actual tracking number from apple

Mine didn't show up in the ups my choice yet since it's still in China. Once it hits the states it should show up. I found my in tracking by reference. Track by putting in your ph# in reference in this format 8008675309 and then hit search. You might have to enter your country and zip.

I got my 6 at the hub on launch day. Took all of about 20 minutes. This dumb hub here doesn't open until like 2 or 3 or something so I had to wait until then. But it beat waiting for the UPS guy all day. I will say our Hub is strict about the address on your license matching the address on the package. When I got my computer and that wasn't the case it was a big hassle for them to make an exception.

That is normal. Ups can't confirm they will handle your request until they actually process the package at your location. The alert will tell them to route to your request (my assumption anyway).

No, this is NOT correct. If you make the change before the package arrives at the CC (aka the hub) then the package will be delivered to your store the same day as it would have been delivered to your house. They absolutely do not see that you've made a hold request and put it on the truck anyway, and then drive around with it all day just to take it back off and put it on a different truck.

If you request a UPS store that isn't in the distribution area for your hub, you may have a delay. If you don't request the change until after your package arrives at your hub, you may have a delay. If you request it after your package has shipped but before it arrives at your hub, you should be fine, barring any mistakes being made.

I've done this a number of times, and I've never had a package delayed.

The website shows that having the phone routed to my nearby UPS Store will mean I can't pick it up till Monday. There's only one hub around here, so it isn't differing hubs. The UPS Store is a bit farther from the hub as the crow flies, but it's on a major arterial, and I'm not, so delivering there is no big deal.

I picked up last year at the hub because I got out of work around 3 or 4pm and my phone was attempted to be delivered at 10am. Maps took me to the wrong address, so when I finally got there, it was about to close. Luckily I was still let in and there was about 3 people in line (I live in a small town). No problems or rude representatives, and I believe that was my 2nd time missing a delivery. Pretty easy, despite Maps betraying me!

I want to do this before the package hits the hub but it seems It isn't letting me yet. I ordered through Verizon. The package is still listed as processing, I guess since they're already in the states.

I tried to change my delivery to pick up at a local UPS location and my delivery date changed to Monday. I changed it to pick up at the CC and I still have 9/25 as the delivery date. I'm in Pittsburgh, PA.

I have any major UPS delivery held at the hub (which is very close to where I work). Depending on the driver, UPS can show up at my house anywhere from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It's not worth staying home for that, and having it held means I can pop over to UPS at 9:30 when it opens and pick up my parcel. No fuss, no bother, no missing work.

Just be prepared for lines if you go early in the morning when it opens and depending on your area. But hey I guess that's all a part of the thrill of getting your product day one.

I did this last year and it was a little chaotic because the CC was right across the street from where the trucks depart. I was the third person there, but the driver was late brining them over because of course, I wasn't the only one who preferred this option instead of waiting all day for UPS to deliver, not to mention UPS being slammed that day. By the time he got there, there were like 40 people waiting and we still had to wait for those items to be brought in and scanned. They eventually had people sign on a piece of paper and show ID.

Overall not a bad experience, chatted it up with a few other Apple enthusiasts about their orders, etc. much preferred than waiting at home or going to an Apple Store on a day one product launch.

I've done it about three times, the usual experience is you go there at 8AM when they open, see a bunch of people standing around inside, some guy tells you the truck is late but on its way (And the hub is literally right across the street.) The truck finally shows up at 9AM, then they slowly dole out phones one by one in random order, and you finally leave with your phone at 10AM. Faster than waiting till 8PM when your delivery driver would have shown up, but still slow as usual with UPS.

At least that has been my experience :D

You would think by now that Apple device launches would have been added as some kind of protocol in their employee handbook, but no.
