Never pre-ordered an iPhone before. If you pre-order through Apple's website after the iPhone is announced, do you get it as soon as it hits stores...or are you better off standing in line and waiting for one if you want it as soon as possible?

When you pre-order, do they ship it to your home address or to the Apple store? I've heard both and wasn't sure what was standard (and/or if it was an option and one was better than the other).

I prefer the iPhone to be delivered in front of my door. It's a lot easier than falling in line.

My full discount date is 6/13/2010.

Sounds like pre-orders may be taken before that date.

Do you think I'll be able to pre-order before 6/13 if delivery is after that date???

I have the same question. How does AT&T/Apple treat a pre-order? Some customers will want to pre-oder before their qualified upgrade date but won't be billed or receive the phone until after they are qualified.

If you are going to pre-order and have it shipped to your house, do you have to do it thru the Apple site or can you also do it thru the AT&T site?

Is there a difference?

It seems most of these posts deal w/ buying it from Apple directly. I just want to make sure I understand as I will be eagerly refreshing whatever website I need to in order to get this moving.

they will not leave your shipment if nobody is there to accept and sign for it that was one of the big worries with the 3gs.

Yes, they will. I had one sent to my parents' house last summer as I was going to be out there that day after I picked up my 3GS at the AT&T store (long story, but I ended up with duplicate orders due to not being able to preorder online & have it sent to the store). We waited all day for someone to knock, ring the doorbell (which is LOUD), always within earshot of the door, because according to AT&T, the only way to cancel the duplicate order was to refuse delivery on the 2nd phone. Just as I was about to start with the angry phone calls demanding info on where my phone was, I checked the front porch and there it was. The guy had just hucked it up by the steps and taken off.

It doesn't matter what kind of neighborhood you live in; everyone in the Western world knew that iPhones were being delivered last June 19. You don't think a box of about that size just sitting on a porch wouldn't make an inviting target for a thief? Luckily in my case, my parents are in a very rural area and know all of their neighbors, so it wasn't as much of a concern, but still.

I ordered mine through AT&T's site. That one was shipped to my parents' house. The one I went and picked up at the AT&T store had to be ordered from AT&T in person (I guess-- the point is, there was no way to have it shipped to the store if ordered online.)

I'm going to preorder online and get it delivered to my house to avoid lines.

Where would be the better place to order apple or AT&T? Did the charge for shipping too? And we get them on release day right?

Thanks!

I would prefer standing in line. No kidding. I think I would like the thrill of the atmosphere. Unfortunately, I think I am going to have to wait until later to get my iPhone. But standing in line would by my preferred mode. I suppose I like camaraderie, chatting to other enthusiasts and sharing the fun of it all.

*bump*

So where is the best place to have the best chance? Pre-order and ship from Apple straight to your home or pre-order and ship from ATT straight to your home.

Also, if you buy online and ship to house, how do you handle returns/exchanges? I know w/ Verizon if you order online you return via Fed-Ex - no store for you.

If I order online from AT&T, I'm assuming its the same deal.

If I order from Apple, am I able to go to the Apple store? Apple usually has Cadillac service so .... ???

I pre-ordered my 3GS from Apple last year and had it delivered on launch day. Think I might reserve it online and collect it from the store this time, though. Not sure!

Waiting in line is the way to go guys... You definately should go to the store... That way my ups driver doesn't have as many stops & maybe I'll get mine delivered sooner! Seriously though... I've both waited in line & had the iPhone & Ipad shipped on release day & I prefer sleeping in & waking up to my new toy... But that's just me... I always take the day off for it... I'm lucky enough to be able to work that out...

to my understanding you can only pre order through apple. as long as you have nothing to change on your account i think pre-ordering is the best way.. but if you want to get in line, i say ATT since you want to deal with the plan stuff.

so will there definitely be pre-ordering this time around for the new iPhone, or is it just speculation? Also does anyone know how much after June 7 we will be able to get our hands on one?
