apple will bump up the hardware of course, but that's not the interesting news.

and Re buying out omnigroup, id and palm...
i think an apple + sony joint venture into digital devices for consumers would be better.

Okay...

id wasn't that seriours, but it would stick all those PC gamers. that future games like Quake 4 and Doom 2, stuff like that came from a company called apple... That would really make them visit the mental hospital!

Palm wouldn't be so bad... They have the experience and many companies license the Palm OS software, so apple would get revenue on that front...

Omnigroup helps OS 10 developers... So they could be like the team sent out by apple to help large developers like M$ or Adobe finish off their apps... And apple could bring browser development inhouse again... ;););)

hey, i'd like nothing more than for apple to buy up $h!+ loads of pc game companies and fire the whole PC development team and put a nice new mac dev team in there and make sure that there are never any PC games ever again BUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! (guess i got a bit carried away) but we have to look at other takeovers/mergers that would *seriously* improve apple's business position

Apple could get its fingers burnt with Palm

The Palm OS finds itself in the position that Mac OS was when Apple bought NeXT. It's arrived at a dead end in development terms and they need to start from scratch on a next generation OS to remain competative.

Buyers of Palm would effectively be buying a brand and the good will of it's customers. The technology is almost worthless, and Apple would need to make a major investment to bring it up to scratch.

Since Jobs is on record recently questioning the value of the PDA sector it seems unlikely that Apple would buy Palm.
