I thought Apple stated some where how many many charge cycles before it starts losing its health.

No, they only state it can do 1000 cycles over its entire lifespan. But even that is not correct. It can do 1000 cycles for sure, but at that point battery life is so bad that you wouldn't want to use it for 1000 cycles to begin with. It slowly loses its health over time from day 1.

They usually last 2-4 years depending on the how good the quality of the battery in a particular unit happens to be (which varies quite a bit) and after that battery life starts to go down. After 4-5 years most users would benefit from a battery replacement.
