Yeah, that was my inital thought, but the poll has heavily favored the other side of the argument.

This is your phone willmataylor, not ours, so think carefully about this, and do what you think is right for you, not what the majority have polled.

;)

If you're a fumble fingers, buy the insurance.

Also, as I recall, the latest AppleCare + for iPhones includes two replacements for accidental handling damage, for $49 additional per incident. That means that dropping in swimming pool, or from you balcony is covered, stuff which isn't usually covered by AppleCare.

That might make it worthwhile?

Well of course, and thanks for the reminder! I just wanted an idea how many people had AppleCare buyer's regret and how many people didn't buy, but then had accidents causing them to wish they had extended it.

I will differently purchase the extended warranty when the iPhone 5 arrives as I did with the iPad and MacMini. ;)

Please, next time add to the pole list "Are you going to purchase the extended warranty" option. Some poles are some what lacking in the correct options some of us want to click on :apple: :D

I have to say, the "Accidental Handling" part of the AppleCare extended warranty is definitely the most intriguing/tempting part of the whole deal. ESPECIALLY since that's not covered under standard 90day/1yr. AppleCare.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting; could you clarify?

At times, polls lack another choice for us to click on, and the ones listed here did not cover (Are you going to purchase the extended warranty regardless if I will need it or not) one that I and perhaps others would have liked to click on. ;)

The one's listed where good, but did not cover the one I would have chosen

Ahhhh...ok. I gotcha. That makes complete sense and would've been a great idea. Thanks for the input.

Never really considered it since I usually put my iPhone into the toughest case I can find the minute I buy one.

Of course I decided to use a 'sleeker' case about a year and a half in and dropped the phone on concrete and shattered my screen, so...

I may consider puchasing the plus package or whatever. Does it really offer up to 2 replacements? Is that a no questions asked replacement, walk in store with broke phone, leave store with new phone?

I'm going to have to do some more research on this...

2 years only? How about the life of the phone which I'll probably replace within a couple years anyhow but I'm actually on my third year with my 3GS now! lol

Yeah, part of the reason I started the thread is that I dislike big, bulky cases. They take away from the aesthetic of the iPhone too much for me, so because I usually either have no case or a minimalist one.

Yes, the AppleCare+ does offer 2 accidental damage incidents and will fix the phone for a flat fee of $49, and it's for a period of 2 years. Finally, I'm also one of those people that keeps my phones forever. :)

Best buy's insurance is actually better than applecare+ b.c there is no deductible and you get unlimited replacements....i would go that route, well i did :)

Best Buy replacements are refurbs also, and take forever to get while you use a loaner, and the refurbs often have lots of problems. They are certainly not like the Apple refurbs which are almost always perfect.

Does Apple offer Applecare and Applecare+ now? Or is it all Applecare+ if its for an iPhone? Because I only see Applecare+ on Apples site, but on eBay today you can get whats listed as Applecare for $39.99.

im really glad i got mine for the 4s and i will get one again for the "new iphone"
why?

im on my 6th iphone in 2 years, so ive had quite a few replacements, and im glad i got it other wise id be using some cheap BB

Ok folks, I'm a long-time Mac user, but I have never taken the iPhone plunge. Looks like it finally makes sense, so I'm waiting for the new iPhone to make its debut. Wanted to poll the mob though and see what the consensus was on current iPhone owners and their purchasing of extended AppleCare.

Thanks!
Will

At this point I'd buy it for my next iphone.

3G - no problems ever.

Iphone 4 - after 1.5 years 1st started randomly turning itself down (despite it being on silent 24/7 and never using it for music/audio). Never dropped, no damage. Cost - $149 to replace.

Current Replacement - Touch screen is failing just 3 weeks out of warranty. Randomly opens and closes apps, dials numbers, opens emails, tries to send emails, etc. etc. Again, no damage and no drops. They want to charge me another f*ckin $149 to replace their ******* refurb with another ******* refurb.

Will be buying AppleCare + for my new IPhone when it's released in October
Bought it for my new iPad and feel alot better about taking it out the the job sites as it is now covered for accidental damage.

It may feel like is not worth it if you dont need to use it over the 2 years but if you do you will be glad you bought it, works out to be $4.16 per month for peace of mind.

I know you can only get applecare+ at the time of purchase, but i'm sure you could get regular applecare to extend the mauf. warranty out too. I would imagine that is what the people on ebay are offering. I know they just started applecare+ when the 4S was launched, so it also could be iphone 4's people are selling on ebay and they have regular applecare vs applecare+ since it was not offered at the time they purchased.

I thought AppleCare+ had to be purchased within 30 days to, but on Apples website it just says it can be purchased within 30 days in store. Not sure what that means about online. I'm assuming it's in store only so they can verify its not already physicaly damaged.

What is being sold on eBay is not a phone with warranty, it's just the AppleCare plan, it says you can add it to you phone as long as its still under warranty. So I am sure it just AppleCare, not AppleCare+. But I decided to get it anyway, phone will be a year old in October and this way maybe I'll get a little more selling it when the new one comes out. Who knows. I typically don't buy these plans on my phone, but I figured $40 isn't bad. It would certainly be worth it for Aplecare+.

I didn't purchase Apple care or any sort of insurance. :/ I am super careful, like freakishly careful with my 4S, but better safe then sorry. Am I to late to purchase AppleCare? I got my 4s at the end of nov, 2011.
