This is dumb. The M1 MacBook Air can drive external monitors at higher than 60 Hz yet people think the M2 won’t?
I don't think the people questioning it are even caring about what already existed. They're just looking at what's newer because that just so happens to be what's on their radar. It's a very dumb way to shop, indeed.

According to Apple, the M2 MacBook Air supports “[o]ne external display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz”. Does that mean that 60Hz is the maximum refresh rate at any resolution?

Monitor refresh is broken down by the total bandwidth (Your Resolution x refresh rate) it is transmitting as Thunderbolt and USB-C has a max value. Meaning, You should be able to INCREASE your refresh rate as long as both your monitor supports as long as you reduce your resolution.

I used 100Hz 2k Ultrawide monitor - no problems on a m1 because I am not exceeding the max throughput. It's all about total bandwidth. 6K @ 60hz is 30Gpbs which is leaving you 10 Gbps for data.

This only works if the monitor supports refresh rates above 60hz.

use this link to calculate your bandwidth which you can use if you know your cable bandwidth. (yes, your cable rating does matter)

Anybody knows if it will support Dolby Vision on external monitors other than Apple XDR display?
I’m planning on getting the new m2 Mac Mini when it comes out and use it as an HTPC along with a projector and oled tv, hence my interest in the M2 Macbook Air discussion.
No Dolby Vision capability would be a deal breaker for me… 🤞
