Just curious if anyone knows what that extra slot above the phone speaker does on the white iPhone? I don't have that on my black 4, nor is it on the Verizon 4.

Proximity sensor. It's on your black one too but you can't see it. When on an active call pull the phone away from your face and look at it; the sensor slightly glows red.

If you look hard enough, you can see it on the black one. It's hard to see because it blends in, but when the sun shines on it, sometimes you can see it...

It's the proximity sensor. You have it on your phone, it's just harder to see because of the color.

Not 100% sure, but I think that is the "face sensor" so the phone knows to shut off the screen when you are talking on your phone.

It's the proximity sensor. AKA It knows when you put it on your face.

EDIT* It only shows on the black models in direct sunlight.

I always find it amazing how many users comment in threads without bothering to read any other replies.

I was wondering the same, so I googled your question: it's the proximity sensor.
