Hey guys,

I just dropped my iPad 9th Generation 256GB and the top of the screen is cracked... 😢😢😢

I now need to buy a new iPad model but I don't know what to do since my iPad 9th Gen was the last iPad to come with a 3.5mm headphone jack... 😭😭😭

This is my model here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/111898

I was planning on using this iPad 9th Generation for a few years to come and this is why I paid extra for the 256GB model... 😭😭😭

Thank you for any advice!

When the dropped the 3.5mm Jack from the phone, I used an adapter (3.5mm to Lighting). It worked just fine. Only problem was that it couldn’t be charging (using a wire) while listening to music. I never found that to be a problem, but you might.
Thank you for your reply!

I'm aware of this limitation so I was REALLY hoping that there was another option for me so that I can charge the iPad while still using the 3.5mm headphone jack? 😢😢😢😢

Thank you for your reply!

Is there another brand that offers the same feature? I'm very skeptical of buying brands I'm not familiar with... :(:(:(:(:(:(
Here's a pricier one from Ugreen, a well-known brand -

Apple can't "fix" your current one at all?
Thank you for your reply!

I'm not sure to be honest. The top part of the screen is cracked which leaves me with about 80% viewing of the iPad screen...

If I had been using an iPad cover, would that have protected the iPad from damage from a fall?

Just buy it. It works fine. I’ve used it for over a year.

Are there any downsides to using one of these adapters? I've never used anything like this before with my Apple hardware... 😨😨

It all depends on the fall and on the case. E.g. I have dropped the caseless iPhone 16 PM dozens of times on to concrete; no case and no damage except the edge is a little rough. But a 15 foot drop to concrete cracked the back glass, pshaw.

I use a Pelican case for an iPad Air because it kicks around in a pickup truck and the iPad would easily survive a 20 foot drop to concrete in the Pelican case.

Ask Apple and see what they say. I had an iPad Air with a broken screen in 2016, and an out-of-warranty replacement was just under £200.

That iPad also had a cover, but it wouldn't have saved it when it fell backwards off a chair onto a tiled floor.

You could get an iPad Air or iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard accessory. It comes with an additional USB-C port purely for charging which would free up the iPad's USB-C port for the 3.5mm adaptor. Then you could do both.

I just checked the price of the Magic Keyboard accessory for the iPad Air and it's at a minimum of $200? 😲😲😲😲

Is there another way for me to be able to use the 3.5mm headphone jack? 😭😭😭😭

I bought the iPad 9th Gen and loaded it with 256GB of storage just so that I could use the headphone jack for a long time... 😢😢😢😢

I have an iPad Air with USB-C. Just as the original reply to the original post, I used standard EarPods at home with a 3.5mm to USB-C adaptor. You can use the same adaptor with any headphones, etc. When out and about, I use a set of AirPods 4, with the iPad, when not using the AirPods with my (still-lightning) iPhone. Both wired and wireless work well with the iPad. FYI, Apple also now sells EarPods with USB-C without having to even use 3.5mm models

Just get one of these. Belkin is a well known brand.

But with this device I won't be able to charge the iPad and listen to music using the 3.5mm headphone jack right??? 😢 😢 😢

Look at the webpage I provided, there you will find the specs and it's designed to do exactly that, charge and provide a 3,5 mm port
Thank you for your reply!

I'm re-checking it now. This is a whole new area I've never needed to research before so I'm trying to get a decent understanding... 😢 😢 😢

As suggested, bring it to Apple for an estimate and see what they say and go from there.

How much does Apple charge to just look at a damaged iPad in an Apple Retail Store? The iPad still works and it has 256GB of storage so maybe I can use it in another productive way???
