If I'm home, I watch it on my television.

If I'm mobile and out of range of the network anyway, you just copy it to the iPhone with tivo2go.

Again, it's cool and I can see the appeal with the streaming but it seems like tech in search of a niche.

Maybe for people without a TV or something.

I have 2 TiVos in my house, and modded both of them (an original Series 1 and a Series 2 Humax TiVo w/DVD recorder). I'm more than familiar with TiVo.

The main difference here is that I'm recording straight to my Mac with EyeTV. Frankly, with a 24" iMac, it is fantastic to watch TV or any other video. The key difference with the EyeTV approach is that I can edit the shows that I record; I will sometimes burn them to DVD with Roxio Toast - which integrates the EyeTV software to make life easy. The software already had the ability to record the video and put it on an iPod (iPhone). Now Elgato added the ability to stream my edited TV and/or movies to my iPhone with the software. That's a nice, free, bonus!

EyeTV is definitely a niche product. It works very well for me, and the new iPhone streaming video support is icing on the cake. I haven't replaced my TiVos, but this is great stuff, too. Don't discount what they're bringing to the table...and it's really not too expensive either!

For me the only real value in it would be to edit the TV shows I want to watch on my iPhone.

With tivo2go, you get the whole feed, commercials and all. Zooming through commercials on an iPhone is doable but it's a little clunky.

I'm not saying it's useless, just not that practical for how I watch things.

Not working for me, updated and converted shows, but when I access them all I get is this

The shows do not show up, I knowthey are converted b/c when I do a show package contents on the shows, the .iphone.m4v is in there...grrrrrrrrrrr

Are you trying to view it from Safari 2? This is designed to work on an iPhone, but it will also work in Safari Beta 3. This is the same version of safari as on the iPhone.

Tivo2Go is OK, but I have always been plagued with slow transfer rates. I've been meaning to get an 802.11g USB network adapter for the TiVo, but never bothered.

EyeTV...it rocks, too.

:D

For the person who asked whether to buy EyeTV 2.5 or EyeTV Hybrid: EyeTV Hybrid comes with EyeTV 2, and you just do an update to get EyeTV 2.5.

I love my EyeTV Hybrid (got it thanks to iPhone credit), and with iPhone Remote, I can watch all the videos on my iPhone (from EyeTV or not) from anywhere! :D

I have the same problem. I am using the latest version of Safari, I have enabled port 2170, and I know the m4v files exist. The iPhone doesn't even get as far as the mac mini. The iphone tries to access the web page, but eventually times out and says, "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding."

Are you sure you started WiFi Access?

It's working for me. I did find that if you also have it set to convert to iPod or iPhone format, you have to let it format twice (once for iPhone/iPod and once for WiFi). Are you sure you have it formatted for WiFi? Once you go into preferences/WiFi Access and click Start to turn WiFi Access on, you will see check boxes next to your recorded shows. Those boxes need to be checked. If they are not checked or even there, your shows have not been converted for WiFi (regardless of whether you have converted them to iPhone). Also, apparently, if you turn your computer or EyeTV off, then you have to re-start the WiFi Access before the shows will show up on the web page again.

I upgraded to Safari 3 Beta on my iMac, and it does not work with that. It does work fine with the iPhone, though. Hope that helps!

By the way, I played with editing the recordings last night for the first time, and it was amazing to get rid of all the commercials! This is *so* worth the money! I have Comcast with an HD DVR, but I get a *way* better picture from the EyeTV Hybrid connected to my cheap HD table top antenna with the free OTA HD channels! Go figure!

I checked those, thanks. I also found out that if you view the package contents of the eyeTV file from the finder, that it has a copy stored inside in the iPhone format. It is odd that Elgato converts the file a second time for iTunes, because there is no need. If you are interested, you can save time by just dragging that file into iTunes.

I don't know what else to try for streaming to my phone. I was hoping that the new firmware released today would solve my problem, but it really must be a problem on my mac mini, and not the iPhone.

I just installed the new EyeTV on my old G4 iMac, and the streaming seems to work great. So my problem has been narrowed down to settings on my mac mini. The firewire port is opened, so I am not sure what else to try. Any ideas?

This is working great for me and is one of the coolest things I've done with the iPhone so far. I don't have a tv, just watch on my computer (with our sad analog cable!). Now I can watch anywhere in the house, oooh its nice.

wifi share works not only locally but also on the internet!!!

just forward the 2170 port to your eyeTV mac and there you go!!!

http://84.172.187.190:2170/eyetv/

for anyone who wants to try today... i get a new ip every day and don't want to post my permanent dyndns address;-)

and this makes slingbox or tivo so obsolete;-)

So is this allowing you to stream Live TV , and switch channels and stuff? Or just the ablity to watch previously recorded shows on the iphone?
