I think Ferrari has had it a little easy since Renault stopped using the force dampener thingy. Renault have been running pretty poorly since and there are no ther real competitors to ferrari (Kimi is great but has had poor reliability) so ferrari have caught up huge. Having said that last week Renault clearly had the better car but were unlucky. Had that wheelnut gone on properly Alonso would still be in the lead. Renault now have a superior package again it will be a very interesting finish. And yeah I can't wait for the demise of todt I can't stand that little troll - when ferrari get kimi and hand the reigns to braun I could become a ferrari fan... Maybe.

I've been an avid McLaren fan since I was 10, its a real shame these past few years that they havent got their reliability issues sorted, hopefully alonso can bring us Merc's back into the game next year!

I think it will be Alonso.... Renault just seem better than Ferrari. I'm surprised at the lack of Renault support here. Just because things are going one way doesn't mean they can't change. It's so funny to hear all these people say that Ferrari is a sure thing now. Its not! Look at Renault at the start, no one could touch Alonso. You have to look at anything, things aren't always so simple. I think Honda has proven this. They were great at the begging but sucked during the middle of the season and now are doing great again. Renault is not out of this thing.......

Where are the last two races and does someone know which teams (e.g. tires and car) they suit better?

Japan (Suzuka) this weekend-Oct. 8 Followed by Brazil (San Paulo) 2 weeks later-Oct. 22.

Sad Note: This is the last F1 race for Suzuka, Japan as F1 returns, after many years, to The Mt. Fuji race track for 2007, 2008 & 2009.

Darn. The last true *Figure 8 overpass* race track in F1. Anyone remember those electric road-racing sets??? Or am I too old? :( :D

Just realized I forgot to answer devman's other question about tires & car.

As for tires or for the UK/Aus - tyres ...

Definitely go with Bridgestone For The Japan GP. They are a Japanese based company. No way "they lose face @ Suzuka'. Mich. are a French Company, check out the French (Magny-Cour) race for those results-(Renault,Alonso,Mich.)

So..

Ferrari,Schumi,Bridgestone For Japan. :D :D :D

I haven't decided about Brazil yet.

I don't know if anyone else has thought about this, but we could break some crazy records with this season. The opportunity for a tie is not too far fetched. But, if there is a tie in the points it is the driver with the most race wins, second places, and so on that wins the title. So, here is one reasonable situation that could get quite interesting. Say, Alonso wins in Japan and Schumi winds up second. This would cause Alonso to tie Schumi in race wins and for Schumi to hold five 2nd place finishes to Alonso's six. In Brazil then, if Alonso were to finish 3rd and Schumi finished second they would both end up with the same amount of points for the end of the year...... and the same amount of race wins, and the same amount of second place finishes, and it would give Alonso his first 3rd place finish, which would tie Schumi with his one and only 3rd place finish this year. See what I'm getting at. Neither driver has finished 4th this year, and Alonso has finished 5th twice, while Schumi has never finished 5th. So, this would mean Alonso would win because he finished 5th two times. Is this really what should be deciding who the world champion is? Do those two 5th place finishes really prove Alonso did a better job than Schumi this year? That is for the fans to decide....... If it comes to that, which if you look at it, it is not completely impossible, and actually quite possible.

Good Post Jedi128

I suggest 'Pistols @ Dawn' for those who disagree. But on a serious note if what you wrote should happen then Alonso should be the WDC Winner and ->I am a solid Schumi fan!<-

Why??? Schumi had every chance to be the points leader prior to Chinese GP but he got too greedy :( Go back to the Hunagian GP, in the rain with a drying track.. 'his tires were shot' but he still tried to keep 2nd, then 3rd, then out of the race. Alonso as we may recall had already had his 1st wheel nut problem so was out of the race. If Schumi had just accepted 4th or even 5th he would be leading in the points not tied. But he didn't and ended up out of the race just like Alonso.

I haven't decided whether to forgive him for this yet

Note: do to a disqual. he did end up with 1 point in 8th postion.

Alonso sucks and next year when he comes out from behind Renaults bulletproof vest, his true (lack of) talent will show.

Go Schumi! :)

What if Alonso wins the next one, schumi gets 6 points. And the last race Alonso crashes out, Schumi gets 4 points. Then both have same points and same number of wins...... would they then see who has more "second places"?
I know this has partly been answered already, but this is covered by article 25 of the sporting regulations:
If two or more constructors or drivers finish the season with the same number of points, the higher place in the Championship (in either case) shall be awarded to :
  • the holder of the greatest number of first places,
  • if the number of first places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of second places,
  • if the number of second places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of third places and so on until a winner emerges.
  • if this procedure fails to produce a result, the FIA will nominate the winner according to such criteria as it thinks fit.

As for this championship, I expect it will come to a tie, both getting first and second over the next two races (I'd be very surprised if M Schumacher doesn't win at least Suzuka).

Alonso will be champion again though - he's clearly better than everyone else except for Raikkonen.
What the hell planet are you living on? I do agree that Kimi is better than Eyebrows though. :D

Anyways, unless Renault solves their problems (both human and mechanical), or Ferrari finds problems, it's gonna be Schu.

I have the feeling that Fonso might just knick it;)

This season has shades of 98 when Mac dominated the start of the year and Ferrari had a massive mid season charge but Mac got their act back together just in time to get the WDC and WCC.

It is fitting that its these two going head to head no other driver on that grid is anywhere near these pairs class

By the way I do not share everbodys love in for Raikkonen and his petulant inarticulate mumbles and hissy fits.

I agree his ragged style will do much better in the more robust Ferrari but his inability to gel a team around him and lack of communication skills = well Ferrari wont exactly be the force they were next season.

He might just get the 2007 on the basis of the legacy that M$ left him

You just watch :D

I agree with that. Kimi just isn't quite up there, I guess we'll know for sure next year as you say. Maclaren's unreliability hasn't helped Kimi's cause at all this year.

I don't want to scare you, but Renault F1 are from Oxford, England.
I knew that, but they're still a little too French for my liking. Actually Oxford is further from me than France so I'm assuming they're just running scared, l'cowards.

I've got a feeling he might just as well... :( initial weather reports are predicting showers this weekend, and Brazil could well be a wet one too, the Michelins are just too superior in those kind of conditions, with a much greater operating window than the Bridgestones, that even Schu cannot bridge. :(

Fingers crossed we'll get 2 dry races though. :D

If the weather is dry, I think Schu will have a tough time, but he's got the best car and team...

Alonso is very fast. Other than Kimi, who else has shown his level of speed? Alonso was a fool to switch to McLaren, so he might not be competitive in the short term unless they get their act together, but of the veteran drivers he and Kimi stand above the rest.

I think Schu may stand in a class by himself, but looking forward the future is Alonso and Raikkonen.

I think Button with the right hardware might be up with Kimi and Alonso but he's not consistent and suffers from that whiney British driver thing (I'm Bristish btw. before I get some criticism for that :) ) that Coulthard, Herbert, Hill and Mansell etc all suffered from.

I think any F1 team needs all team members to be feeding into the team (see Schumi and Ferrari for a good example of this) and I suspect that MacLaren have not really gained much from having Montoya and Kimi as part of that process. It will be interesting to see if Alonso and Hamilton (?) can turn that around.

Next year is going to be a very interesting year for F1.

There's a question I've always been meaning to ask: What is the prize money for the drivers' and constructors' championships....? Is there even prize money?
