One could speculate. I’m sure analysts are already creating the prototype look on the next iPhone. This years “leaks” were pretty accurate and came out months before the keynote.

Not necessarily because I haven't tried Face ID yet. I can't really have an opinion on it if I never tried it yet.
Biggest concern is watching SuperSaf (who is a Samsung fanboy and who I dub SuperSafsung) showed Pixel 2 XL destroying the 8 Plus in his photo comparison. The 8 Plus essentially has the same REAR camera as the X.
It was like watching Hulk smash Loki like a ragdoll. "Puny god." Google's algorithms is second to none right now in both post-processing HDR+ mode and data compression for Google Photos. Richard Hendricks of Pied Piper would be proud.

I know, right? As someone who uses her Apple Watch all the time to discreetly check messages (and MLB scores) in boring meetings and in my own classes (where students have to put their "devices" away) I think the Watch is made for boltjames! Plus his boarding pass will be . . . on his Watch so no pulling a phone out of his pocket.

no from what i've seen on demos, there will be a button on the pay pop-up that will say tap to pay with faceid. once you tap that button faceid will activate.
not as brilliant as touch id IMO but it works.
Perhaps that's the workflow in iTunes, but that's not the workflow at Starbucks.
At the register terminal, I choose a credit card, then put my thumb on the home button, done. With the iPhone X, if I choose the wrong credit card while (of course) looking at the screen, boom, charge on the wrong credit card.
It's going to be interesting to read all the Face ID fail threads. No, not a fail because the recognition didn't work; fails because of workflows that aren't anticipated.

I don't think I will be turning it on. I use my Chase app daily since I like to check my balance and rarely carry cash. I use mostly my debit card. The Chase app has a feature to use your fingerprint. Three of my phones can log-in using that.
I don't feel safe using the most exposed part of ourselves (our face) to be able to check my balance if Chase added a feature for face recognition.
Apple should have used both. Now I'm forced to go back to their 6-digit pin code. Longer way but feels more safe. Who knows if Apple is finally going to give in to NSA for mass surveillance?
Just remember none of these companies you love care about us. Their bottom line is what matters. I'm skeptical myself. Feels too creepy and easy for anyone to unlock your phone.

its different I think. because apple pay will no longer be triggered by RFID. you have to physically double press the side button, look at it (choose your card in the meantime) then present to the chip reader. This is equal to the apple pay workflow on the Apple Watch.
the workflow of presenting your iphone 6 to the reader with your thumb on the reader and done will no longer exist.
That right there is the dealbreaker for me.
And if Apple changes iOS to require a side button click for Apple Pay so the 6/7/8 suffer the same way, I'm out, I'll consider an Android. Never thought I'd say that.
Not really. You won’t buy this year X because you’re waiting for next year iteration of the X. You make it sound like there is going to be some major improvement or jump in technology, when there won’t be. There will be small incremental updates to next year phone. So if you don’t think it’s worth upgrading to the X this year, I don’t see how you can think it’s absolutely worth upgrading next year.

Some people really are grasping at anything and everything to make up false claims such as this.

But if it becomes to disruptive or you get too paranoid, use 6-digit PIN that doesn't associate with your life, repeat numbers for fooling people checking oil patterns, don't start with 0 or 1 as that can be months (birthdays), and you can actually unlock it UNDER THE TABLE in secrecy if you are in class or meeting.
Flashing the phone to the owner's faces is way too easy while pretending it's their phone than grabbing their finger to unlock it. Imagine how easy to do upskirt videos? Curious if cyber crimes go up with this. In Minority Report, Tom Cruise needed a Japanese man's eyeballs to not be identified. Imagine if the person is drunk and they have your phone?

I think you should have your phone and fingers checked, Touch ID in all gen iphone i never had any issue unlocking the phone.

Face ID is not all about technology its about safety and privacy too. With Face ID there’s a less chance someone can unlock your phone than Touch ID. Apple has shown great deal of interest in privacy.

Really? I have a 4 digit pin to unlock mine still...are you saying I need face id to prevent someone from unlocking mine....Id like to see a random crook try to crack my pin in a few tries....seeing that I never leave my phone lying around.

As I said before, I'm fine with the 1:50,000 number on possible FP matches.
That's plenty of time to change my email password and CC number by then. Those are the two pieces of info I have stored on my phone.
Privacy is good but it's only one side of the picture.

I've thought a fair amount about it and I think it will be a tradeoff. There will be times where FID will be just as quick and easy, maybe moreso, and sometimes it will be a bit more effort than TID - much of that only less appealing due to more of a laziness factor than anything else.

I am sure we could come up with some scenarios, but it just seems a bit overblown in my eyes. I'd bet in 90% of phone usage, maybe more, that you're picking up the phone and using it. In this instance, Face ID will work just fine.
