Doesn't this explicitly go against Apple's ATT policies that say apps can't incentivise you to turn on tracking?
That's the thing, When I deleted my Facebook & twitter accounts in 2011 I told my friends I'd come back if the networks too my money and didn't do creepy stuff like follow me all over the internet. When they make me the customer, I'll gladly re-join. So yeah, sure. start charging.

You know, the thing is, I kinda like the idea of being a paying customer rather than part of the product. I've been happily paying for Netflix every month in exchange for what I feel is a quality product where I don't feel like I'm what's being sold.
I agree that asking for tracking approval to keep it free is a direct manipulation.
Hmmmm. Perhaps Facebook and Instagram would be better if there was a monthly fee. Or maybe a per-post fee? Perhaps people would post less nonsense if there was a small charge each time?
I still have yet to have Facebook even ask me if I want to allow tracking or any other app for that matter.

If facebook and/or instagram weren't free, I wonder how many would leave the platform. Facebook could probably charge $10/year (with ads) without seeing a significant decline in use.
Hang on a minute. you mean it costs money to build products? I think people have been lulled into the view that there is such a think as free software. Time to grow up.
