I've had Facebook crash occasionally, but it's nowhere near as bad as you're making it out to be. If this issue didn't happen with Facebook, it would have happened with another app eventually. Something is wrong with your phone.
Also, with the latest version of Facebook, I'm pretty sure everyone is getting the error message when trying to view the photos the user was tagged in ("user"'s photos):

Although he finally got things working after a restore, I think his issue could be another app that is conflicting with Facebook, and Facebook just happened to be the app he dled last. I think the next time this happens, he needs to either, delete all his apps and add them one at a time until he gets the problem, or delete an app at a time until the problem is fixed. Just my opinion.

Perhaps I wasn't clear on exactly what happened. To clarify (for those that care):

1) I had had Facebook on my iPhone for months (if not a year, by now).

2) I noticed after I updated my Facebook to version 2.5 that it consistently screwed up my phone (crashed it, I couldn't log out of my profile, etc). I had to reset my phone (because Facebook froze) at least once ever few of days - so let's say about every one in 20 times I might open the application).

3) I uninstalled Facebook (hoping to reinstall it)

4) after removing the application I went to the app store to find that it showed as already installed.

5) it was at this point that my phone froze.

6) I hard reset the device, and it simply never came back from the Apple screen again

That, to my mind, sounds like something involving Facebook. Whether it was a failure in the iPhone's ability to uninstall the app or something else I obviously cannot be certain (as no one in this thread can, I might add). However, due to the fact that my Facebook app was already causing my phone problems, and because it occurred in relationship to my phone breaking altogether, it seems sensible to assume that Facebook had something to do with my problem.

I have heard that this is a common issue.. I really hope i am not at risk.. I use that app everyday!

^ No. Never been jailbroken.

@Milani

When you restore your iPhone, do you restore from backup or as new iPhone?

Yep I restored from a backup (although it was six days old). Funny thing is the restored version of Facebook exhibits no problems (perhaps because the application was reinstalled during the restoration process).

Next time you experience any problems, try restore as a new iPhone. My guess is than the reason why you had problems is because you restore from a backup...

Who Cares

Who cares who fault it is. Why do people feel the need to sit up on there high horse and act all Above people. That's one thing that's wrong with society and apple. Ie look at the zii EGG. Where's are front facing camera.

Geeze ya it prob wasn't facebook, what's worse is it has to do with the app store an apple. The company that so many of you praise. Get your heads outta the sky and help the OP. She doesn't know how to do some of the stuff you guys where telling her and all she wanted was help. NOt to get flamed.
Granted this as with those post is a waste of a post because I'm ranting but all those other people make me sick.

Some people don't know how to put it in DNF mode and what if there was no apple store close to her to go to. Don't you think it's a bunch of crap that the iPhone is supposed to be such a "great/easy to use device" that you think they would give you a walk through in the manual on how to do
more stuff in time of a iPhone emergency.

Tired of a lot of the asinine posts on here by clueless idiots who have no clue what the hell they're talking about

I'm tired of all the ********s that waste thread space flaming. From the title of the thread, you can clearly see what it's going to be about, so next time how about you save us the bother and not click on it. Just go back to whatever you do.

As far as not having a clue what she's talking about, well hince the thread asking for help.

It's not a coincidence. The same exact thing happened to me last night, step-by-step. New Facebook App would start up, I had to uninstall, my iPhone didn't realize it was uninstalled. My phone dies and when I turn it on, it just stays on the Apple screen, then shuts down. I can't do anything to it. I'm going to check out some options.

Nonetheless, at the end of the day, if not for the new Facebook App, my phone would be OK ... not saying it's Facebooks' fault or iPhone OS fault, but there is a distinct correlation there that can not be denied if the same exact thing happens repeatedly for multiple users.

I just wanted to chime in because told the original poster that he/she is an ****** and is clueless, but she is correct that the new Facebook App was involved in the phone crashing...

The way apple gives permission to the apps, I don't think it's possible for an app to crash the phone

Has anyone noticed any problems with the new facebook app. it does not crah my phone but since it came out i hav had to reinstall 6 times because it just dissappears and i have no idea why!

Any ideas?

oops nevermind re-read the posts.

Is your phone jailbroke?

I understand that, and yet if I had posted that I uninstalled "application x" and my phone died everyone would ask what application I had uninstalled. I uninstalled Facebook and as a result of that my phone died. Thus Facebook broke my phone.

More generally, Facebook is an extremely bloated iPhone app, and it's also extremely unstable. Even if it wasn't Facebook, it's a pretty terrible app (at least I've always had bad experiences with it). It often crashes my phone, so it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that it caused the uninstall process to stumble and fail in the first place.

My phone is now fixed, thankfully the restore worked, although I lost six days worth of stuff (not that it really matters). Oh and to all the people who are getting angry at me: are you serious? Go outside. Seriously.

same thing happened to me. I am not jailbroken. I installed the 3.0 facebook app update, restarted my phone. It would attempt to boot with the apple logo and then turn off. Everything is fine after I restored.

I'm not a chick, but thanks for the backup nonetheless. Obviously it's not a problem for me now as I was able to restore my phone. Also good to note that Facebook 3.01 is very stable.

Did you manage to get your phone working again?

Well add me to the facebook killed my phone list. I updated on mine just fine, then i went to update on my wifes phone. All was ok until she opened FB. It was a blank page with just the FB title bar. reinstalled the app, and from the app store it said it was installed already.

This is the exact same issue as posted. To add to that read the reviews for FB many of the same issues.

I would agree i would not blame an app but here it just happened on one phone and not the other. My wife has far fewer apps installed then i do so here "conflicting" apps theory is less then mine. I have tons and tons of apps.

I just did a DFC restore on here phone and its all good, again. neither phone is JB or nor has ever been JB.

My guess is it was a corrupt install that does not allow a proper deleting of the app. The corrupt leftovers will cause the iphone not to boot.

So I uninstalled Facebook from my iPhone because it was giving me server errors when I tried to view photos. I deleted the application. I then went to the app store to try to download it and install it again, and it said that it was already installed. Then my phone froze, so I did a hard reset. Now my phone always gets stuck in asod (Apple screen of death) and then just shuts off... Any ideas?

OP my iphone did this after i installed the 3.0 update for facebook. I went to the facebook app and it had the logo at the top but a white page. I tried to turn it off press the home button, but it was frozen. I reset it and when i tried turning it back on it went to the apple logo ad then shut off. I had to do the DFU mode and wiped my iphone. Facebook did screw my iphone up.

Yep, that sounds like the same issue. I wonder how many other people this has happened to?

I restored from a backup only to save my phone after Facebook broke it. Prior to that point I had never restored my phone.

Favoritism ??? Unfair review process ??? I think so !

The exact same story happened to the iPhone of my girlfriend. The problem was that the last backup wad done on 2 July...

There is plenty of the same story on the internet and there is a full discussion thread on the Facebook website.

So I would like to say two thinks :

- Like Milani, I am 100% sure that this happened due to the Facebook app and I would like to thank all "iPhone expert" on this forum that said that it was not possible that an app could create this situation.

- Some developers have to wait two months before their new apps or updates pass the fantastic review process of the App Store. If the review process is so good and necessary, how is it possible that a dangerous update like this pass the process ??? Strange that 3.01 came only two days after the 3.0 and a 3.02 came the next few days. Favoritism ??? Unfair review process ??? I think so !

It is because of facebook! it has happened twice to me, the most recent, just a few minutes ago, but I don't remember how to restore the phone, it won't pass the apple logo, I won't be installing face book in my pohne again! that's for sure!

whoa!

I finally got it to DFU mode, but itunes say it can't restore it, it say it isn`t eligible for the current build!
