Companies have to make money one way or another. So I do understand, but I really am not force to use it.
Messenger feels like an Android app for iPhone anyway... Cumbersome (not Cumberbatch :D ) and I am not in the mood to even try to understand it especially if they put ads in it.

I've hated that I've been 'forced' into messenger on my iPhone. I just know I'm going to hate the adverts even more. I guess I won't be using Messenger anymore.
Use app called "Friendly", its basically an app that displays your FBin mobile mode + you can read messages without having to use messenger. I deleted FB and messenger app long time ago, and my battery is quite thankful.

It is compatible with everything, just switches to text and you lose some features. No different than any other app for messaging if you message someone not using the app.

I think the point that was made was that if you send an iMessage (e.g. a picture) to someone not on iMessage, then you probably switch from sending a free picture to an MMS that you would likely be charged for.

I already hate that the Messenger app
keeps resurfacing "Active Now" and "Favorites" list— especially since the latter is nowhere close to even having a sliver of accuracy in my case.

This just makes me hate facebook even more. It's been a necessary evil in my life, but it keeps inching closer to deletion every year.

Necessary? I have never used it at all, still happy.

Except, considering 86% of smartphone users are on Android, that's a lot of people who you can't contact using iMessage.

Choose your friends wisely... :)

But now we have ads to along with the data-farming, so I guess that's just Facebook's way of being honest?

"Facebook" and "honest" are two words that should rarely ever share the same sentence. As soon as they went public, everyone should have realized that the gig was up, and that money and how to make it was what they were going to focus on.

Odd. I seem perfectly capable of texting Android users on my iPhone. The messages still get through just fine.
That's not iMessage, that's SMS, the universal service iMessage reverts to when the recipient doesn't have iMessage or iMessage fails.

What I find most incredible is that people is OK with this, they continue to use the product even though they hate the ads and they keep adding them on every corner of their services. That's why Facebook is still big.
Facebook is only still relevant because middle aged people and grandparents are on it now, keeping the user base going. The younger generations have moved on from that steaming pile.

Facebook can f*** off lol
I'm just glad Telegram exists, completely free and never gonna even try to make a profit either. Not to mention the quality of the app itself. I'm glad I finally got rid of facebook after having had to use it to talk to certain people...

Like I give a fxxx about a billion of these Android users in China? All I care is a circle of 20+ friends I communicate with. And the majority of them use iPhone.

i cant wait until i get ads in my phone text messages, seems like the next place to go. You could even parse words looking for keys that would make the ads more accurate.

I finally pulled that trigger last night.
I just do not like it at all anymore. IMHO, there is nothing but negative BS every time I log in. Even most of the people I have as friends have nothing else to do but complain or talk trash about something or someone. Messenger just keeps seeming to get worse and with ads I am definitely out.

Good for you! I did the same a few months ago. It was all so negative and overwhelming and once FB started spamming my newsfeed when key words were somehow triggered in replies between me and my friends, I could not keep up anymore. Plus there are always at least two people who do nothing but spam the newsfeed with as many as 15 reposts a day. There are some days these people do as many as five reposts an hour for the entire time they are awake.

And Go Fund Me and fundraisers of that type can be a wonderful thing. I was happy to be able to contribute to many deserving causes. But there is a very ugly flip side to the GoFundMe phenomena and FB smacks you hard in the face with it. At the time I left, it was becoming a near weekly thing to have to find a way to gracefully sidestep people you love dearly wanting you to fund their kids, their pets, their kids' pets, their kids' friends and kids' friends pets' chiropractor's fundraiser for alpacas wanting to go to math camp. Or something to that effect.

People don't generally do this sort of thing to you in email. I am afraid the changes to iMessage will make this behavior popular there, too. So I have withdrawn socially from the online world and communicate only with email and the occasional phone call. I do sometimes miss the camaraderie on FB. It was for a brief time a fun way to share good family news. It went to hell fast.

Facebook is pure garbage.
Impure garbage, I think. Actually toxic probably, but I don't get it anyway.

There's a lot of people I don't contact anyhow, especially if they're on android, and my friends that started on androids, are almost all on iPhones now, with no prompting from me. Not that it would have helped.
I probably don't have enough time to contact 86% of (sort of) smartphone users anyway.

Reason 2,987,145 that I'm glad I do not have Facebook.
But who's counting?

If they use Android, they aren't even worth contacting :p
Most of them don't speak English either. Not that that's a problem, I'm just not multilingual any more.

And plenty of those from younger generation or any generation are on it as well. Ultimately people use whatever works for them based on their needs/wants.
