Do you use the mobile web version? How do you view most recent as opposed to newsfeed on the mobile web version. That annoys me...

Same here. When Facebook removed messages, I removed Facebook. Now im actually prefering the web-version.

Yeah, Right...

Just like focusing on web apps was the best way to go? Oh yeah, that really wasn't the best way to go neither.

They want to streamline the main app to serve more ads. By splitting off the messenger part of the main app into its own app they'll increase the screen time ads get when the Facebook app is open.

I have no intention of installing a separate app :) Sorry Facebook! You might not want to cater to me. I just think it's daft splitting them up. Like, make a separate app if you want to, but why gut the feature from the original app?

Been using the web version.

I love the messenger app because that is the only Facebook app on my phone. I've removed Facebook and never had paper. My life is better now. Old people who use Facebook can get a hold of me but I don't have to view all the crap people post.

Lame

yep - soooo dumb. Not downloading the Messenger app and considering booting the app all together and just using web. Facebook is nothing more than a distraction and easy way to log into websites on mobile platforms.

:mad::mad::mad:FACEBOOK:mad::mad::mad:

Here's an idea; if you're on the web and someone sends you a message, why not bounce them to another URL which is dedicated to messaging...?

Cos it's stupid. And so is the two-app policy.

Tried the messenger app - deleted it

The fix for me was to turn off all Facebook notifications in the iPhone settings. That way you never see alerts of any kind from Facebook. Annoying message badges gone - problem solved.

Yeah I stopped using FB and i even deactivated this account, this application on Android is ridiculous and asks for and requires such ridiculous permissions its beyond stupid.

I dont use either app on my Plus, I had started to use Google Plus and I love the app, I like Google Plus, just waiting on and cant wait for when they update it to iOS 8 and to also the new screens and also bringing the Material Design over too , should be awesome, material design is awesome

A friend of mine said it well when he described Facebook in his blog:

"I’m at a dud party, and I’m thinking it might be time to leave. I got here reasonably early (I’ve always been unfashionably, anxiously punctual), and things were quite fun to begin with. But the room’s thinning out now, and I’ve noticed a lot of people either grabbing their coats and heading for the door, or pulling out their phones to check the time." (http://draughtsblog.wordpress.com/2014/08/)

Not only is the party dying out, the hosts are now telling us that we need to go next door to another house to chat to each other, because that's the house that's dedicated to talking to each other. Apparently we're not allowed to talk in the original house now.

Just make it an optional install. That way we can choose how we want to communicate and everyone is happy.

I haven't spoken to anyone on Facebook since the change which has been both a good and a bad thing. I just got so fed up with Facebook changing things all the time and telling me what to do that I felt it a good time to take a break. I still read the news feed on the iPad but won't be installing Messenger.

I'll be honest and say that it isn't really that bad. Despite that, I still gave it a 1 star rating a long time as punishment for forcing me to get a separate app.

It honestly is a better experience than the Facebook App that crashes a lot but I feel that it is an excuse.

Translation:

Snapshot wouldn't sell to us and our previous attempts to gain traction in the messaging app space have failed miserably. Therefore we've decided to harvest our existing user base in the hopes this latest attempt gains traction.

I have a "fake" FB account since so many sites, forums, etc practically force you to look at something there. (That didn't make much sense, I know).

Anyway, I think FB is a total waste of time. If I want to share something with a REAL friend, I will. I know people with thousands of so called friends. Plus the whole thing seems to make peeps look like they have these shiny, happy lives. It's sort of like an un-reality show to me. I did try it back when and immediately knew I couldn't stand it. I could go on, but I'll spare you. /eor

Bring back ICQ!!!! Why was it ever ditched? All the people that matter use ICQ.

No.... His role should have been played by "Chef" from the Muppets....

And you would play Statler from the Muppets?

Facebook is not about a "News Feed." Facebook is about connecting people. By requiring a separate app for messages, you're making it more difficult for people to connect.
Facebook is more about the newsfeed and related items than anything else, chat is just an extension of that at best and more of a convenience. For many that want to talk to someone using Facebook as a medium it's actually more convenient and faster to use a more streamlined and dedicated messaging app than somhow going into the whole Facebook app with all the other stuff in there just to talk to someone.

It's like needing to launch Safari and have a bunch of tabs load in it that you don't even need just so that you can message someone vs. simply going to the Messages app and quickly chatting with someone.

They want to streamline the main app to serve more ads. By splitting off the messenger part of the main app into its own app they'll increase the screen time ads get when the Facebook app is open.
A lot of people who chat would end up opening the main Facebook app even less so that seems to go against that actually.

Perhaps to make the main app less bloated even by a bit, and to streamline and make the chat part of it all that much simpler and faster so it doesn't have to rely on all the unrelated newsfeed and other items?

----------

Then why do both apps equally suck? I call the main Facebook app Sir Crash a Lot
The Measenger app is fairly quick and stable, so certainly not anywhere close to what various people seem to experience often with the main Facebook app (and part of fixing it is to make it less bloated, and separating the whole chat part of it certainly is one part of that).

Huh. I don't really use Facebook (neither the app or the whole service in general), only the Messenger app, so I think it was a good move to separate it from the main app :D

FBNoNeedMessenger is the best thing the Pangu jailbreak has given me. So glad I got to uninstall the Facebook messenger app :D

Same here. Don't understand forcing people to use the Messenger app, but leaving the messaging functionality in the main app. Just goes to show that they're doing it just because they can. I refused to install the Messenger app and after I found FBNoNeedMessenger, I will continue to have never installed the standalone waste of space while still sending message no problem on my phone.
