And still everyone still keeps posting on Facebook... "you might miss something!"
I still have Facebook because I don’t want to “miss something” but I never post and have no personal info on there. Even if someone were motivated to use my FB account against me, there really isn’t anything there.

As opposed to some in here, I personally do not believe on any privacy claims from companies that monetize the Internet to appease their investors.

Simply, there are no white knight Internet companies. (And their monetizing policies are done blatantly, but only if you read the gobbledygook on their T&Cs.)

[And, this includes "sovereign" Apple as well, now that finance services are its new mantra -- with Goldman Sachs behind its covers.]

but if i quit facebook, how will i see everyone's notre dame posts?(

You're going to have to do it the old fashioned way like we used to do it before Facebook. Print the pictures out and drive from town to town showing people your pictures.

Remember, Facebook owns Instagram and WhatsApp. Facebook has announced they are merging the backends of the three apps.

Sometimes I have to use it for business purposes.

All of those times I have to clean projectile vomit off my desk.

I wish it would go away. I'd save so much on paper towels and bleach.

It is worse than you think. Facebook follows you on the Internet, not just when you are using Facebook. Further, they gather information on friends of Facebook users, even if those friends do not have Facebook accounts.

i'm not concerned with people seeing my pictures, yet with the ability to see other's posts. and even if so, i don't have the time to drive around showing pictures.

What I have never seen mentioned is how Faceslurp has killed off massive resources from the internet. Spin back 10 years and there was a forum (just like MR) for everything. Car related, no matter what problem you had, modification you wanted to make or guide needed, some community focussed person would have shared or discussed it.

Forums have been an invaluable resource for me for decades, I used to run several of my own. Now though, all the information gets posted into FB, in a non-searchable manner. Virtually all of the forums I used to use are either dead or dying, wastelands of ageing information.

Facebook is internet cancer.

What difference is this from Google ?

If people are concerned don't use it. Otherwise, realize that nothing is free and that these companies are monetizing customer information in lieu of charging customers money.

At least Google provides me with multiple, very useful money saving services.

That and it isn't run by a smug faced sanctimonious hypocritical cretin.

I still have my FB account.
Don't really post anything on there, mainly use it for my guitar groups.

Same thing with Instagram. Keep it for the product contacts, not much need there for personal use.

I'm cleared eyed about what happens to the data, so they get as little from me as possible.

To be blunt, you only think you understand how (and what) Facebook does with personal data. For one thing, people who have never been on Facebook can have Facebook data files-Source & Source

And Facebook doesn’t rely on just the information you and your friends post about you. They actively look you up on other databases. It’s not illegal, and they can better sell your data to other companies, which is how they make money- by mixing in personal and economic data about its users.

This one!
I never had and never will have a FB account.
If you can't determine the product; your data is the product.
Do you have friends or family that use Facebook? If you do, Facebook probably has an information folder on you anyway.

Colour me shocked that Facebook would do anything to profit from users privacy. /s
