I wish with timeline you could delete anything that was older than say, 6-8 months, with the option of keeping photos. I'd really like to start fresh. I viewed my timeline, and there's posts from 4-5 years ago of me wasted during my university time. There's just too much stuff to delete individually.

I'm no longer a 17 year old fresher, so I'd not like people to be able to snoop and see what 17 year old me looked like and did.
.

And this is why FB is so dangerous... they don't give you much control over your info and they do this on purpose. And they try to sneak ways into tricking you into making yourself more public.

Lesson, don't ever trust FB.

Couldn't agree more. The only social network to me that seems to benefit us as a society is Twitter, because its sole purpose is exchanging information as efficiently as possible. No lame photo galleries, no timeline BS, no farming and app nonsense. Just straight up news and information, between people, consumers, businesses, etc.

Except Twitter censors stuff too:

http://androidspin.com/2011/12/18/twitter-suspending-users-tweeting-about-occupy-wall-street-ndaa/

Can't exchange info very well when they suspend your accounts if you talk about certain subjects.

I'm with the person that more people need to go to G+ (but still be careful, Google may have figured out that people are more trusting when they do things like let you opt in and give you more control over your info but they still have the same motivation as FB, to sell your info).

If people would socialize outside of their computers the world would be a better place.

Serious. I bet social anxiety disorders will sore through the roof as time goes on.

People still do socialise outside of their computers, it's not like social networking has replaced real life socialising.

And I've already got Asperger's so shove your social anxiety disorders :p

Is it just me or did they remove the ability to go offline in chat? (iPad)

It's not just you, it looks like they have removed it.

I'm not antisocial, but I don't want to feel obliged to chat with my friends when I'm reading their posts... So I hope they bring back the option to turn off chat, and give the option to hide the chat panel in landscape mode.

Why oh why do a company like Facebook, who no doubt have a wealth of very talented staff and resource at their disposal, keep coming out with such crappy updates to a mediocre app? I'm not saying that I could do better, but THEY should be able to!

Except Twitter censors stuff too

I doubt it, that's hardly in their interests, and they've said they don't censor certain trends and hashtags: http://gizmodo.com/5868917/shutup-twitter-isnt-censoring-your-dumb-trends

Besides, saying they're censoring people because three accounts which used a certain hashtag - when said hashtag is very popular and used by millions of people - have been banned is quite short sighted. We have no idea what else those people have been tweeting.

I'm with the person that more people need to go to G+ (but still be careful, Google may have figured out that people are more trusting when they do things like let you opt in and give you more control over your info but they still have the same motivation as FB, to sell your info).

They both sell your information, true enough, but Google has a far better privacy record than Facebook, and they're far more transparent. Plus, the Google Dashboard makes it very easy to manage where and how your information is stored. The market is also very contestable, and they know that if they start "doing a Facebook" with our data, some other site will take their business.

You can go as far back now without the Timeline, it's always been like this.

Yes, but the timeline makes it much easier to look up past posts, as you can just jump to the relevant year. Before, you had to scroll down endlessly to come further.

I myself am not really convinced by the timeline feature. It seems so chaotic to me and the scrolling becomes horrible due to the bulk of pictures and posts that are loaded now.

Too bad Facebook can’t, at least for once, give people a choice. Usually I just disregard what I don’t like and I would love to drop Facebook completely if it wouldn’t be the most effective communication tool for all my social activities. Without it, I’m almost isolated.

I turned off notifications except for App Badges (alert style set to none), yet notifications are still appearing on the lock screen. Anyone else?

No way to sign off of chat killed this app for me. I just want to browse, not be bothered. Maybe it's time I deleted my Facebook account...

Would be totally cool and awesome if they could make a version that doesn't crash, or get hung up.

I have this same issue.

Notifications are annoying!

BTW - Francis Luu is a hottie! How can I meet that dude?

This update just made the app even more unusable. App crashes every time (on iPad) I try and look at a pic. What a piece of crap.

After each update they are successfully driving me more and more away from Facebook.

They also took away the ability to sort the news feed by status updates, pictures, and so on. This was a nice feature as I only wanted to see the status updates and it put them in a time order as they were posted, not all jumbled up.

Meanwhile, at Mark's house...

One thing the iPad app makes a tad easier is deleting old posts by swiping. I was able to remove a lot of old junk pretty quickly. I do hope the chat sign-out returns when they update the iPad version.

Seeing timeline made me really glad they didn't have Facebook and cell phone cams back when I was in college.
