There isn't an iPad optimized app yet so I'm not sure how you can even say this. If Facebook does decide to do an app it will surely be more functional than the iPhone version.

I'm basing this on the iPhone app. The same way i hate e-mail clients and prefer to use web based interfaces. I Hate apps for things that can be used on the web so i dont need a iPad app to tell me otherwise. Geez

There are features that can't be done with the facebook.com site. Like push notifications for fb notifications/events. The current issue with facebook's site now is it isn't very touch friendly. Having a native app let's Facebook add features that can't be possible with the site itself.

Sounds nice, but I hope it's updated and handled a lot better than the iPhone App. I mean, seriously. The iPhone App has needed a serious update for months and it's still buggy with doing typical Facebook tasks. As of right now, using Safari on the iPad is still the best way to use Facebook.

if Facebook will enable the IM capabilities Safary will be perfect for Facebook.

The Facebook app has been hit and miss since Joe Hewitt quit. For a company their size, it's amazing how poor they are at developing apps in a timely manner.

Facebook in iPad Safari is not completely functional. The pop-up windows that shows event attendees/etc don't have scrollbars. It's also awkward to Hide things from your News Feed.

It would be nice if they would at least tell us, "Yes, we are working on an iPad app. No word now as to features, but it should be out around [month]." Or tell us, "No, we've no plans for an iPad app. Use the web site on your iPad."

Keeping people in suspense for no good reason is idiotic. The Facebook app is really the ONE app I'm waiting for on my iPad and if it ain't coming ever, I wish they'd just go ahead and tell us instead of keeping us in the dark.

What a shame.

Now my kids will be bugging me to take the iPad for hours at a time.

Facebook is a plague.

Aren't you the parent? Just say NO to using your Ipad, and NO to facebook, get this program www.netnanny.com and block facebook on every computer. Simple as that, give a kid an inch they want a mile. :D

You could use im+ for ipad, add your facebook account so you can chat and surf at the same time.

So whatever happened to the Facebook app?

I was wondering the same thing. It's a good thing "Facebook for iPad is Coming SOon" as the title of this thread indicates. If it wasn't coming soon it would be next year before it's released. Just a hint of sarcasm here. :)

Why would you need an app for facebook when the iPad is a perfect device for accessing the internet. Just access Facebook through the internet.

Word on the street is that google is pretty close to launching a Facebook type site called "Google Me." I wonder if Zuckerburg is sweating a bit...

Agreed. I personally think that Facebook's iPhone app is very user-friendly. Curious to see what kind of improvements they made for the iPad.

I don't think it'll be big anytime soon, like I have 350 friends and about 150 of them are female teenagers (I'm 16) who make up a large majority of facebook users, and I cant see people like them joining some new network simply because they have no reason to, they can talk to all their friends etc on facebook.

Is anybody in here using the iPhone Facebook app on an iPad?
I just downloaded it today because I would like to get notifications, but for some reason, I am not getting push notifications. Everything is enabled so I don't know why this is happening.

Can somebody confirm they are getting push notifications on an iPad using the iPhone Facebook app? Or is it not possible?

Other push notifications are working, such as e-mail (well on the hour), IM+ free (instant push), and Words with Friends (instant push).

Don't kid yourself. It's been hit and miss even when Hewitt was at the helm, even moreso.

If ur jailbroken download Fullforce from cydia and turn it on for the iPhone facebook app and voilà.
