they haven't fixed the notification bug! pi**ed off seeing a badge only to realise its the same damn notification from the previous day.
You still get notifications and all that. And Facebook can still run on the background for a few minutes after you use it, similar to any other app essentially. Background refresh just basically controls whether or not an app can wake up on its own at some points in time to retrieve some additional data (beyond notifications) to make things load faster once you get back to the app at some point.Just turned off background app refresh for Facebook - I don't need it doing things in the background, at most what, no notifications from FB? Its not like email or messages anyways. The latest app seems to be doing far too much background work still.

People still think that "question" is clever or interesting in some way?
Tbf, it wasn't a particularly helpful comment in a thread about battery problems. There were 1.49bn Facebook users as of Q2 according to one estimate, so they can afford to lose a few without worrying. It was an honest question. I stopped using Facebook a while ago and it seemed like most people where getting rid their accounts..
No I mean have you ever turned on the machine, because if you have it has crashed. The only dodgy site I go to is this one.
Have you got a manual for your iPad, it shows you how to turn it on,
Sorry, I realize my comment was not entirely clear. There are most certainly monetary reasons for keeping the application running in active memory (as you stated). But, these reasons are for enhancing customer experience and are not for privacy invasion nor are they nefarious.
Everyone is bent out of shape because they see this as an attack on their privacy, which is entirely incorrect. If you read all the comments, the consensus is "I don't trust Facebook!", "They're exploiting me!", "Privacy invasion!". That is my point - that this functionality, intended or not, is NOT a privacy or data grab. If the intent was to enhance customer experience, I do believe the battery life issue is an unintended side effect (and, therefore, a bug).
(...snip)
Seems like there's still issue with it. (latest updated app, 9.1, 6S). It was ok when Facebook updated the app, but for the past week or so, the app rose up to the number one battery user again.
At the same time there are also some who haven't had them and still don't have them. Go figure.Interesting that people are still having battery drain issues. I've yet to reinstall it and think I'll stay on the web version for now.

How long ago did you delete it? If it was less than 24 hours ago then the statistics will still show how much battery it used before it was deleted during the last 24 hours.Deleted my facebook app ... does not seem to help! How does one delete an app FOR GOOD???

Can't say I'm really surprised. Based on the fact that Facebook is listed separately from the installed apps in Settings (alongside Twitter, Vimeo, etc), I'd say that Apple is letting them get away with these types of exploits. The only reason this one was fixed is because Federico Vittici called them out on it. I've installed the new version of FB, shut off notifications and background app refresh, and will be letting it sit in the background for 24 hours. If it uses more than ~30 minutes of battery time, I'll be uninstalling again.
