As rumored last week, Facebook has released an updated version of its iOS app with support for the new iPad's Retina display. The update also delivers a number of bug fixes to one of the most popular apps of all time.

What's New in Version 4.1.1

In this release, we added some features and fixed some bugs so now:
- You can go offline in chat
- The right profile picture appears for everyone
- Your list of friends always includes all your friends
- In sets of photos, your name is displayed correctly
- Photos of people who like Facebook Pages load correctly
- Your friend-request notification only lights up if you have a request
- You can change your language to Czech, Danish, Greek, Indonesian, Malaysian, Norwegian (Bokmal), Portuguese (Portugal) or Thai
- If you've got a new Retina iPad, you'll see a crisp, high resolution interface
Facebook for iPhone and iPad is a free download from the App Store. [Direct Link]

Hope those bug fixes including the constant crashing and the inability to go to any photos or outside links without making a hash of the news feed when you return to it. The Facebook app is almost unusable on my original-recipe iPad.

The new iPad is now the best portable Facebook experience with this app. upgrade.

Right, because the only solution to solving crashes and app difficulty is to put the onus on the user to purchase a brand new iPad for several hundred dollars simply for this one area, not ask the app developer to build a more robust version of their application and fix bugs.

Still no timeline support? What's taking them so long to implement this... Haven't checked other features yet but at first glance it's just another disappointment with a few minor bugfixes. I am really having a hard time realising how the tech company this size which reinvented the social networking is unable to deliver a proper working app for using their own services.

Facebook App Update?

No timeline support still? December 2011 they said "iPad timeline support coming soon."

omg the chat offline button is back THX GODDESS AND HER BILLION CHILDREN

edit: crap!!! only on the iPad -.-

I upgraded so I could delete it and rate it 1 star. Make sure to rate the old version 1 star first before you upgrade. This way you can rate both versions 1 star.

Facebook intentionally made a crappy iPad app because they want you to use the website. They're not even really trying to hide it.

Yup retina display support and other bug fixs... It looks really on the ipad :)
