I'm also concerned about my Amazon app searches showing up as ads all over my Facebook feed. Bedfellows.

My husband does not have and has never had a FB account, but I've recently started seeing Amazon ads on FB for things that he has searched for. It's really weird. Our Amazon accounts are linked through Prime, so I guess that's how they are doing it. Luckily I haven't seen anything I shouldn't (I see stuff like lawn mower blades), but I'd be really annoyed if an ad popped up for me on a gift that he's searched for me. I don't like to know what I am getting ahead of time.

You are part of a very small group of people that are concerned. Almost everyone doesn't care. The size of this thread proves it.

I'd rather see ads of products I'm interested in than lame ads like "follow this one weird trick to lose belly fat"

It does not matter if you delete your account. It is not deleted in their system and servers. You can tell if you want to activate or log in again with your old email and password. It just reactivates it again. I did this years ago and deleted my account. Then...I tried a few years later to activate my account again and ‘bing’ it went back to my old account with all of the information.

They don’t delete anything. They are data collectors.
Are you sure you didn't deactivate instead of delete? I know you can deactivate and your page will come right back.. but I would assume delete means.. delete.

That’s so wrong. If you do want to leave the service, best to download your profile data then individually delete every post, unfriend everyone. Delete as much as you can and replace required fields with dummy data, then proceed to delete your account.

Funny, they use as an example of their “ethical ads” policy The Deck network, which was shut down ages ago. So they don’t seem to be able to keep their website up to date.

Sorry...I am not wrong....putting "dummy data" does not erase what has been uploaded or added in the past. Just effects current offerings. Does not effect backups or mirrored data on multiple servers. Get a clue dude.

Yes, I deleted it. Facebook multiple times asked me.."Do you really want to leave?" This was a few years ago, but maybe they have changed. Someone who does not care anymore about their account...try it...wait a few weeks and then try to log in again.

Regardless...anything...ANYTHING that is uploaded or put on the internet (or facebook for that matter) is saved somewhere on some server, backup, mirrored etc. Old-timers know this...the young don't know how things work anymore...

Especially how the internet works...

Um, let me be more specific... “That is so wrong of them”. I was actually writing in support of your post and there has obviously been a misunderstanding. Maybe it’s a cultural or language thing. I assure you if I was going to call you wrong I’d say “You’re so wrong” or actually try to counter your points instead of attempting to offer some helpful advice.

And yes, while Facebook (and the internet at large) keeps numerous histories and backups, maybe it’s still better to make sure the last active profile (and the one they keep backing up from then on) has no personal information. Just my suggestion anyway, or it’s what I did many years ago anyway when I left that narcissistic service.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and comment.

Nothing is going to happen to Facebook. The Congress media propaganda media hipe these last few weeks was just a “dog and pony show” to try to appease the ignorant public that the government is doing something in response to the unveiling of what has been happening for years.

They will not do anything. In time the public will forget, most don’t remember or care what happen even yesterday. This will slowly be forgotten as time goes bye. Government also benefits from this data....
