""We are testing ways to improve the messaging experience for people within the Facebook app. Messenger remains a feature-rich, stand-alone messaging app with over a billion people using it monthly to connect with the people and businesses they care about most. We do not have any additional details to share at this time.""

That was a lot of words to reach just the last sentence, which would have been great on its own.

Also: Totally different Facebook App design if that's also iOS. That's a BIG design change moving the Nav bar to the top.

Not sure if that will be great fun from a reachability standpoint if it happens.
Well, iOS apps always have the tab bar controller at the bottom. Not sure if it’s part of the Human Interface Guidelines or not but it’s sure to frustrate users.

Not like FB will even care though. :(

Before: Facebook force users to use Messenger App.

Future: Facebook force Messenger users to use FB main app.

For whatever reason, Facebook messages can be read and responded to on iOS through Firefox on the Facebook mobile site. Doesn't work in Safari, though.

It's a great workaround to immediately respond to Facebook messages with "Can we move this to text or email? thanks!"

Zuckerberg announced his intention to dramatically shift Facebook’s direction away from this “share with the world” purpose and more of a communication tool with the close people in our lives — essentially Messenger but with a profile. That’s what I think this is about. They’ll scale down the main app and integrate it into Messenger which would be the main feature.

This forum was full of people complaining about them being split back in 2012 or whatever. Really they should be kept apart.

I've already uninstalled the main FB app on my iphone, gives me an excuse to uninstall FB messenger.

I have also recently uninstalled FB from my mobile devices because of their business practices and lack of remorse. A recent Sam Harris podcast was a big eye opener. I highly recommend all of you listen to this

They are probably merging because their install base for FB is shrinking. I consider FB like a virus now, dirty tech that is bad or society and democracy. I'll only use FB with a Firefox web browser, even tho I use Safari for everything else.

WhatsApp and Messenger are gone soon, better push iMessage to improve to take the crowd as security and privacy become greater issues for Google and FB.

The best way to see who your real friends are is to delete the facebook IOS app and only use the safari to access FB. On their mobile web site there is no messenger so your real friends will use SMS. Every once in a while I'll see on the Mac (FB Web) that a friend tried to message me but realize I did get a text message eventually from her. Unfortunately, facebook is a black hole for some friends. They fall in and can't get out.

These companies are coming up with crap “inovation” that nobody wants. First they separate FB and Messenger, now they want to merge it. Is Zuckerberg constantly high?

I think people here need to understand that the separate Messenger app will still be available after this. They will not be removing it.

The only time they will be removing it is when they finally force us out of WhatsApp and Instagram Direct along with it (if this ever happens).

You all sound so alternative and smart when you use your precious time to post comments like “facebook is bad and makes people stupid”
