Is LOL really considered a word? Isn't LOL an acronym for 3 words: Laugh(ing) Out Loud

It was added to the dictionary in 2011.

Why? Oh, that's right! Because you say so.

Take it easy, Zuck.

Damage is done when an app with malicious intent is added to the appstore. But, that does not give Apple any reasons to say "ohh, there is an influx of apps and so a few apps went under the crack". Apple is at the source and they need to be extra vigilant. I believe (I could be wrong) that developers need to submit their whole app/ code before its approved.

Here, its apple which did not look at the app better and allowed.

Doing something after data is compromised for over 30 million users is terrible too.

It’s pretty much impossible to review the code of every app submitted to the App Store, but in this case they did look at the app. It was removed due to a change in Apple’s policies.

Facebook just keeps stepping in turds - do they think people are not going to notice this garbage ?

Yes. How’d you find out about it?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Listen again to Jobs' explanation about Apple's app store approval at D3. When Apple denied apps, there are usually flurry of complaints. This is Facebook, a well known developer. The outrage imo should actually be towards Facebook who intentionally abuse their position and capabilities. And it's not like Apple just "happened" to find out. Apple gave Facebook a month in advance to demand explanation and resolution. Imo, Apple is trying its best here to balance between communicating to developers and ensuring safety of the app store.

But whatever. Facebook will probably just rebrand the app, or try something else, and people will only demand Apple to be the super saint while giving Facebook a pass to whatever they do.

Take it easy, Zuck.

Just so you know, I rarely use FB, occasionally Instagram but frequently whatsapp to communicate with relatives abroad. But seriously, you guys haring on Apps and asking other people to stop using them because you don't like it is laughable. Even more laughable considering the fact that these apps are some of the most popular apps on the planet.
So yeah, I think it is you guys who should take it easy. Not everyone is paranoid.

This is no use, its not a proactive approach. Data collection and privacy breaching should be banned by law, and deleted must mean deleted. It does not mean hidden from you, but stored and retained forever in our server to share and look at whenever we want.

Not just Facebook, but Instagram and WhatsApp, they own all of it! These scumbags are weaseling their way into people's lives in every way they can, far more than people realize.

The big problem is instagram, it has no real alternative (and YouTube). Also people refuse to abandon Whatsapp no matter what. There should be this huge big campaign to migrate people to a new open source standard that is not tied to 1 client or company. Kind of like how HTML website work with any browser, they are not browser tied.

no offense, I mean no disrespect but your comment is laughable
I understand the use you got for those apps but that is exactly the problem
companies take advantage of that
most people simply install apps and they don't even read what they re agreeing to
a good lawyer will tell you
always read the small letters

other companies simply lie and hide the true purpose behind the app or service like FB
do you really think FB is free
did you heard the CEO explanation about ADS etc

is completely fine is you like or you use those app
but saying that people are paranoid is not correct
they have a right to be, the same way you have a right not to be if you choose to

watch a video when they were interrogating the facebook guy
the rabbit hole goes very deep
some people just ignore the problem and pretend that everything is fine "deniers"
then they try to tell us that we are exaggerating

the same thing happen with w10
no we are not spying on you
no is not true
I don't have nothing to hide

me personally I don't have or want to be like the others,
simply because those are the "most populars" or "most use apps" on the planet
is not a strong enough reason for me to use them, specially if I don't need them

we used to communicate with relatives just fine in the past without the use of those apps or services
because they didn't exist at that time
but it seems the new generation are slaves of those apps
maybe I'm old school but, I rather sent an email
rather than having my message , pictures, personal info, intercepted by FB spies

like a said is ok if you like social media,
I can't tell no one to use it or not to like it
I respect who ever thinks different
but I personally don't like it, not because I'm paranoid but simply because I have no use for it

maybe is just because I'm not a social person, I don't want or need hypocrites friends
I rather live with dogs or cats those are good friends, they will never betray you
just because people pretend to be your friends, it doesn't mean they re your friends
a true friend will take a bullet for you

I would expect this from the man that sold America to the Russians. What a Zuckerturd.

I hadn't heard about any such sale like that, but yeah, he's a Zukerturd for sure.

Or all FB-owned apps at this point.

Yeah, that's a problem. I know people who deleted their FB accounts and then went to Instagram. Doh!

The problem is that for some, these are places we kind of need to be (ie: marketing, customer service, etc.) so it becomes a love/hate thing and just limiting use and what we share.

And, even if you don't use their apps, they are still buying and aggregating data from all kinds of other sources on you, and then combining that with any data they get from their tracking pixels all over websites everywhere. So, it's pretty hard to escape.

Wasn't there an iOS-only Instagram competitor? Not 500px, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. This would have been 4S-5S era when I found it.

Edit: Found it, it was either Tadaa or EyeEm. Tadaa doesn't appear to operate a social network anymore, and EyeEm apparently lets green bubble people in now.

The problem is getting a competing service to a high enough level of use/recognition to be seen as a valid alternative... and also keep it from getting labeled in some derogatory way, like 'just the platform for extremists groups', or actually worse, being shut-down in terms of revenue, top-level caching, etc. (and maybe potentially even DNS?)

The 'powers that be' will go to great lengths to keep people on controlled platforms.

The US government should destroy facebook, severely cripple Google and mildly mutate Amazon with strict laws on privacy. Also all of Zuckerberg's wealth should be confiscated and used to fund the enforcement of privacy laws and buy organic sugar free candies for children. Thats the only was to resolve these issues.

Very true.

EyeEm lets you monetize your photos, so that's a selling point.

I'm a believer that Apple should 'punish' Facebook for these deceptive practices. I read an article in NYT this morning about Apple should remove all FB apps from the App Store until FB goes about changing their ways. Now I know this isn't going happen, but I would be all for it. I use FB Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram everyday, but I wouldn't be opposed to not having access to them on my iDevices.

Facebook really needs to be taught a lesson.
