I think the Facebook website is better than the App, so it makes sense to go on the website for iPad users, since they actually have the large screen to do so.
I'll second that. The Facebook website works great on the iPad.
On a related note, I was happy and surprised by how few mobile sites I am forced to see on my iPad. I expected it to be similar to the iPhone. I dislike many mobile sites and am happy not to see them.

Why would you need to upload video or photo from iPad to Facebook. You can't take any video or photos with the iPad.

The website is fine.

Zuck said that Facebook is going to focus on how to optimize the website for those tablet devices like the iPad and Android tablets.

Everyone I know who has an iPad has photos in the photos app (even though " You can't take any video or photos with the iPad"). Uploading pics/video from iPad to fb should be a no brainer.

right, you have photos in the photos app, but where did they come from? You upload to facebook before you put them on your iPad. You sync your iPad with your desktop, you HAVE TO. So the thinking is that you have the photos on your primary computer as well.

I see no reason why it's a no brainer. Clearly, Facebook agrees with me.

Why should I be forced to do it that way? The iPad is my primary browsing device, as it is for all of my friends who also have one. Not being able to upload photos is a pain.

Ok, it's your primary browsing device. But you have to sync your iPad with a computer, so you would have those photos on your computer, upload them to Facebook there. Stop being so lazy.

The best thing about Facebook on the iPhone and on the iPad or not really so, is that I don't use Facebook, so it makes not one bit of difference to me. :D

I am familiar with it. But I also know that the subset of people who have an iPad, camera connection kit are few.
I'd be very interested to see how many photographers who own iPads have the camera connection kits. I'd bet the percentage is a lot larger than you're guessing it to be.

even though you can do it from iphoto, it's still cooler to upload photos from your iPad

I third that. Using the Facebook site on the iPad is a good experience although there are some limitations to it. I'm sure the people at Facebook will figure it out.

Apparently Zuckerberg doesn't get the trend of what people use their iPads for. Most people don't want to use Safari to load Facebook because of a lack of certain functions, such as a photo/video upload, a lack of Chat, buggy poke/dialogue boxes, and a bunch of other problems. I don't understand why the FB dev team can't just take the iPhone app (which is currently on my iPad) and iPad-ize the graphics. That's all that's really needed.

"iPad-ize" the graphics? Zuckerberg is right that the iPad is a different class of device, but it is still mobile. "iPadizing" the UI is a difficult task to do properly and shouldn't be taken lightly. I hope they take their time and design the UI properly, not just making the content areas bigger.

Hopefully they don't try to force their stalker feature (Places) onto people in the new version. That should be opt-in, not opt-out. Zuckerberg is becoming almost as creepy as Eric Schmidt.

Places is opt-in.

I use iLoader it works better then the facebook app to upload photos

No the pictures came from using the camera connection kit while on travel (when I don't have a comp with me) and now I would like a quick and easy way to upload to fb so I can show all my friends/family how much fun I'm having. We'll see how long "fb agrees with you" especially since fb knows (as does everyone) the next iPad will have 2 cameras.

I'm guessing A LOT, that stupid camera kit wasn't available for the first couple months, I think due to a big demand. Everyone I know with an iPad has one of those kits.

iPad isn't mobile, and Zynga's business model isn't a ponzi scheme.

Sometimes I forget how dumb smart people can be.

Maybe you didn't get the memo, but the iPad is a device for consuming. You mention browsing... think of this device as like a TV. Not much for productivity, but you can certainly waste time on it. Use your computer to do things.

Why would you need to upload video or photo from iPad to Facebook. You can't take any video or photos with the iPad.

The ipad takes screenshots and you can have photos in your ipad you want to share, it's like saying that since an iPod touch doesn't have a camera it shouldn't have the possibility to upload photos, this is ridiculous, I want push notifications with Facebook, chat and the possibility to upload my photos in one optimized iPad app.

Nevertheless it's great that they said that there won't be an iPad app so we don't waste our time expecting for one like Skype.

I don't see facebook as "relevant" or "worth my time." 90's had geocities, 00's had myspace, 10's have facebook. Privacy is a nightmare, spam is ridiculous.

Just my opinion. I'm sure I'll be blasted, but don't bother; I won't be checking back.

Bennett Brauer?? Is that you?

You might not be ready to upload them to Facebook at that point. You might have the inspiration as to which photos you want to share only when you are sitting in the La-z-boy with your iPad, at which point, you realize you have to go back upstairs and do it through iPhoto.

If we're not allowed to be lazy, maybe we shouldn't have iPads. Maybe we should have to bake all our own bread. I mean, it's not really that hard.

LOL, iPad NOT mobile. Guess Zucky is not Vegin and dinner at Steve's last month did not contain enough "Pork".

It's movable, but I don't know about mobile. I love mine, but it doesn't fit in my pocket. It stays around the house. To make it a mobile device, I'd have to invest in some sort of case, and some sort of backpack or something, which is something I've never carried and can't see myself doing it just to make my iPad mobile.

Sadly, the groups function is broken :(

The new version of the Facebook app may claim to support groups -- but when I navigate to the Groups area I only see one of my (several) groups.

Looks like yet another mobile app mis-fire on Facebook's part...

Interesting. Apparently, the code behind these sites is not recognizing the iPad version of Safari as a mobile browser, which makes sense but is still a little surprising since Apple positions the iPad as a mobile device.

LOL @ mobile! So true!

The iPad does not have the instant availability of the iPhone, which you can always grab from your pocket.

iPads are really just lighter laptops without a keyboard, and has the limits of it, such as requiring separate carrying cases.

No one carries laptops around on the subway out in the open, they have to keep them in backpacks or cases. Same with iPads.

iPhones, on the other hand, have a completely different accessibility, and are much more readily available.

That availability makes all the difference!

(Remember when MP3 players before the iPod had tons of buttons and menus?)

Privacy or not many of you who say they want no part of facebook are probably all over facebook anyways. The only difference is there is no clickable link to your profile. I knew a bunch of people that felt the same thing only to see that they are in numerous pictures posted by other friends, family, randoms etc. If you go into a public place you'll be on facebook.

True story. I went to a concert with some friends. There were two girls sitting in our row. They got a bunch of pictures of us with them. Shortly later I'm tagged by an aquaintance with the comments

"hey! how do you know him!!"
"we don't do you?"
"yeah, I'm pretty sure he is good friends with a girl friend of mine. I'll find out"

It's the world we live in now like it or not.
