The iPad does not have the instant availability of the iPhone, which you can always grab from your pocket.

iPads are really just lighter laptops without a keyboard, and has the limits of it, such as requiring separate carrying cases.

No one carries laptops around on the subway out in the open, they have to keep them in backpacks or cases. Same with iPads.

iPhones, on the other hand, have a completely different accessibility, and are much more readily available.

That availability makes all the difference!

(Remember when MP3 players before the iPod had tons of buttons and menus?)

You do sound like someone who doesn't own an iPad. I have one and I carry it around all the time. Not every day, but quite a bit. And i never ever put it in a bag. Why would take a 1.5 pound device and carry it around in a 2 pound bag? It's in the Apple case and I carry it just as you would a book or clipboard. It's awesome. I haven't even touched my laptop in 8 months. Its a paperweight now. I do all my real work on a 27" iMac and meetings, surfing, travel and bedtime reading is all on the iPad.

Suprise suprise that this thread has so many whiney iPad users who are pissey at Facebook's decision.

1. When the iPad was released, tons of Apple fans were claiming the people critical of it just "didn't get it". That the initial release without 3G wasn't an issue because the gadget wasn't intended to be a mobile device. That it was intended for home media consumption use. Now those same people get sandy vaginae when it's said to not be a mobile device.
2. People still pissy about Facebook privacy and "Check-ins" as stalker features are idiots. If you properly manage your FB apps, and FB privacy there is little, if even any privacy threat. Because you CAN block other people from not only viewing your check-ins, but also from tagging you in check-ins.
But no surprise that Apple users are so pissy about having to do something/taking on responsibility for themselves, rather than letting Apple nanny them.

Really pathetic.

What a lame post. Not only are its judgements flawed, but it relies too heavily on name-calling... yet doesn't have the guts to quote a specific poster (or posters), with which to target those insults.

Tragic.

This is the most AMAZING thing I have ever seen!!!!! I cant wait to get my Air friday and hit starbucks with this and try it out!! :D

Lol it really is isn't it, even the most technologically inept can use it. I've seen it all over the news, the creator of it is really trying to make a point by pushing websites to use SSL/HTTPS.

Have fun though lol, I sure did.

Hope they cut down on the spammers and raise their privacy standards.

Privacy?

The dirt that I learned in the past few weeks is dismal at best.

To put it generically and waiting for official facebook response which I will post when verified.

Any person, group, or product page gets your info just for pressing like.
Public yes, private, waiting for response...

The kikker is ... That will come when verified. Was going to say but might violate my NDA, but if I can prove it is in the public good then probably is not a problem.

Let's just say that some of the worlds largest companies may get your personal info without your consent or awareness. If you know any highly accredited journalist, please pm me.

FullForce for iPad (Via Cydia)

Hi this is my first post after being a lurker for a few years...I'm not quite sure how everyone feels about jailbreaking on here but here goes..

I jailbroke my iPad with one limera1n and have been enjoying a near native iPad Facebook app experience with the iPhone/iPod Touch version (including with today's update). It's so much better than the double pixeling! It also works with other (mostly text) apps like TextFree and iLoader and also interesting, Opera Mini Browser among others. (good thing because the photo uploader is the only thing not usable when using FullForce). It all it takes is some code then there is really no excuse. If you are comfortable with jailbreaking or already are --it's definitely worth the free cydia download. It's not perfect for all apps, especially games, but pretty damn good for many others.

FB app is actually iPad ready

FYI, Facebook app is actually iPad-ready. The iPhone app can be run on iPad natively with a little bit of effort. No, jailbreaking isn't required.

Apparently Zuckerberg doesn't get the trend of what people use their iPads for. Most people don't want to use Safari to load Facebook because of a lack of certain functions, such as a photo/video upload, a lack of Chat, buggy poke/dialogue boxes, and a bunch of other problems. I don't understand why the FB dev team can't just take the iPhone app (which is currently on my iPad) and iPad-ize the graphics. That's all that's really needed.

Because they're going to come out with something better in HTML 5 that is more appropriate for the iPad.

And even if he said it poorly, he's right. It's a different class of device. Kludging the iPhone app isn't a great solution, and they'll make an HTML 5 version that takes advantage of all tablets appropriately, not just the iPad.

Isn't mobile, yet runs a mobile OS. Sounds like an excuse for being lazy/inept Facebook. Just sayin.

Facebook views the iPad as being in the same category of devices as, say, the HP Slate 500, which runs a full OS.

To them, the distinguishing feature of devices like this isn't the type of OS it runs - rather, it's the form factor.

I'm joined to over 20 groups but when I open groups in the new Facebook update it tells me I'm not joined to any!!

Anyone else getting this??

Lame

What an amazingly lame update. All they did was make small tweaks to some crappy apps. They're still crappy. The iphone app works, but it really seems like they are not trying very hard. Looks like an old palm app. Not sure why they needed a media event for this.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Facebook is an overall bad thing, and telling it your current location is a very very very very bad idea.

Some people just have to learn the hard way.

Still doesn't work :(

Status updates from an iPhone (and I presume iPod Touch) using the FB app are still broken.

They don't show up in news feeds, either one's own or in friends.

:(

It seems that most of the babies on this thread has either never used Facebook or don't know how to control their privacy settings.

Same exact thing happening to me. I'm in over 40 groups, some of which I've created, and when clicking on "Groups" within the iPhone app, I get "You are not currently a member of any groups."

Click on Groups on the FB site works as it should though...

Worked fine for me with the new update.

They show up on my wall, but not in News Feed. I also checked it via my wife's account. Not there either.

Are you sure that they showed up in News Feed?

If so, I'm going to have to try dropping and reinstalling the app.

Really, telling any online service your location is a bad idea, IMHO.

Update the chat... Just randomly clearing, regardless of the Shake to Reload.

Exactly. The chat has been broken (for me at least) since it first came out. I can type to people, but it clears after every reload (regardless of shake to reload) making it pretty terrible if having a functional conversation was your big plan. No known fix either. I just don't get it though, if we're all running the same OS, and the same app, why does it work for some but not others?
