Is there anything that Zuckerberg won't steal?

Does he think Leviticus 25.44 though 46 are still in effect?

I often say if Zuckerberg could get it, he would quite literally happily steal your soul and sell it for cash as he is that type of person.

AI training is like the nascent days of online piracy - no regulation and no companies curating content that can legally be used instead of it.

I’d like to say that there’s a big opportunity for companies to create ethical data sets to train AI models on. Unfortunately, companies like Meta and Google have already duped billions of users into offering up their entire digital histories.

We’ve already lost.

100%. I came off all social media about 18 months ago and I don’t miss it whatsoever. All of it is toxic and it’s never going to get better. I don’t understand why people still take it so seriously - it’s not real life.

Wishful thinking but I’d like to think that within 10 years no one will use it anymore.
If you’re commenting here or even reading comments here or anywhere online, you’re not off all social media. MacRumors forums are social media. :)

I totally had FOMO but the most surprising thing is that it took me less than a week to not even care about what was going on on Instagram or Threads anymore after years of 50+ pickups per day.

It’s so incredible isn’t it?

People don’t realize how much like an actual drug it is.

And like being hooked on a drug, you really don’t understand it until you’re off of it.

Get this toxic company out of your life people!

I wonder if this is one of the reasons Apple AI is so delayed. Could they actually be trying to develop and train AI by not using stolen (unpaid for) resources or privacy-violating processes? I think that is a big aspect of AI that doesn’t get enough coverage.
They could be, but they did get hit with a lawsuit in California by a couple of NY neuroscientists who claim their copyrighted books were in a data set Apple used.

I know some many people are afraid or have FOMO, but quitting Facebook/Instagram was the best thing. I share worthwhile pictures via iMessage with real friends (and have geniune non-public conversations with them).

Stop using Meta and stop feeding them your data.
Just in case you send a photo to someone on iMessage they save it to Photos and have their FB, Insta app with full access to Photos albums. Your data inadvertently ends up in Meta's hand without you knowing. This is the future of minimal online interactions to save one's privacy from these corporations.

yet another reason I do not use any Meta products or chat bots. If I need to find something out I research it not using Google.

Yep. Ethical is hard-work. Unethical is a shortcut. And in business whoever launches first wins.

I guess that all those poached AI experts that Meta grabbed from Apple came in handy :).

Even if Meta doesn’t use the poached experts’ skills, they’re slowing Apple’s progress towards a more ethical product.

And in business whoever …

Well that’s the dumbest take I’ve heard all month.

Betamax launched first, VHS won.
Macintosh launched first, Windows won.
Newton launched first, Palm won.
Rio launched first, iPod won.
Friendster launched first, Facebook won.
Yahoo launched first, Google won.
HD-DVD launched first, Blu-ray won.
BlackBerry launched first, Apple/Google won.

Should I keep going?

Well I used to like Facebook - it helped me reconnect with people I hadn’t seen since high school. I’ve watched friends’ kids grow up and regretfully I’ve done the same sharing photos of mine - all private postings among friends. Never would anything be made public.

What’s the best alternative? Someone makes their own website content can also be swiped. Send photo or videos via Gmail and it’s probably being scanned too.

iMessage and iCloud as the only safe resort?

As many have said, the damage has been done, Pandora’s data box can’t be closed.

Oh my! …News Flash! …….Zuckerberg is stealing your data to enrich his empire. Could it be true? Really?

Yanis Varoufakis spells it out is his book about the concept of Techno feudalism

Zuck as new overlord while serfs toil in his fields on his behalf, he throws them crumbs and he rakes in the profits for his empire.

No need to keep going. There are always exceptions. They can be due to things like organizational capability, company culture, market acceptance, product complexity, product readiness, or just plain bad luck.

But generally if you ask a company’s leadership if they want to be fast to market or slow to market, the answer will be fast.

Even if the product flops, it’s better to find that out sooner and move on. Obviously you need solid preexisting cash flow to pursue that strategy, but I think Meta and Apple qualify.

I never understood the appeal of AI photo editing besides some AI noise reduction and dust removal. It is sad that more and more of that nonsense finds its way into Photoshop, which in the past used to be a tool for professionals. No matter if it a wedding photo or a journalistic shot, changing with AI totally destroys it. The camera was invented to document events that really happened. A photo used to be a proof. The same was true for a video. All that is gone now. If I film a crime, the criminal could now argue that the video was AI generated. As the accuser has the burden of proof, I would have to prove that a video is real, which at the moment is impossible.

The truly sad part is, people will be putting themselves in places they've never been in photos using AI, and then lying to people about the trips they've been on, just to make their boring and unfulfilling lives seem meaningful.

To add to your post, if the government doesn't start regulating AI across the board (which they should have started doing years ago), what you've mentioned will be a problem. The loss of jobs will be a problem. Art, music, literature, movies will also be problematic. People are honestly not going to know what is real and what is faked by AI anymore. I'm not a doom and gloom person, but they had better get AI in check soon. It may already be too late though.
