Why do most people put their iPhones face down when not in use? Is it for privacy purposes?

I do it because I have the screen protector on it so I have piece of mind laying face down and not scratching the back at all.

I do it so foreign dust or dirt doesn't try to dial their friends on my phone and waste my minutes. Can't be too careful these days..

For all of the above reasons. The back has a hard case on it, better to have it facing up and the screen down. Just seems like a good idea.

Might be secret answer "C" which is that people don't care enough to notice which side they put their phone down.

Well if I put it face up then you wouldn't see the beautiful two tone back on the iPhone 5!

I keep mine face up on my desk so I can see Twitter notifications, etc, when they come across.

I have a screen protector on the front and have strobe-flash for alerts enable so it always catches my eye even if I don't hear the ring/buzz.

I'm not sure what having "piece of mind" feels like, but it can't be pleasant compared to having peace of mind.

Btw, the iPhone isn't a bird that can lay eggs, so it can only lie down, not lay down.

It feels vulnerable face up. It's easier to grab and use when picking up from face down.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is this strobe flash you speak of?

I do it so nothing falls on the screen and scratches it or something of the like.

assuming you don't have a screen protector, wouldn't this just be another way to scratch it, like on something that's already on the table? which would cause friction when you pull the phone awayy

I feel like starting a trend of placing my iPhone on its side! like George Costanza eating chocolate with fork & knife. :D

I think you people got too much spare time on your hands to worry about trivial things like this. Much more important things to do and think about than how and why you phone sits on the table.

Idk lol for many reasons - privacy, aesthetic reasons to look at 2 tone back (iPhone 5)

I personally put mine face up so I can see incoming alerts etc. even though I have vibration on.

Also I think it looks better face up personally.
