double clicking the side button works everywhere so using Apple Pay is much more streamlined, it's like using the Apple Watch (way faster to use than TouchID)

So good, there is still a way to "check to see if a store has Apple Pay"
Fundamentally, nothing has changed from the old way, other than you're scanning a fingerprint vs tilting up for your face.

If you want to select a card ahead of time, double-tap side button, select card (presumably by then your face is already authenticated) and then hold to sensor.

I prefer FaceID because I had to disable the double tap home button gesture to pull up my wallet. I kept pulling up my wallet by accident and it was annoying me. With the new system, I can be anywhere in the OS and I can pull up my wallet, using a button combo that isn’t done accidentally in other situations.

I still prefer the actual TouchID sequence once in my wallet, but both do the job well enough.

I’ve used it a few times and one thing I do not believe I have seen posted is ‘pre-authenticating’.

I did this twice yesterday while waiting in line and it seemed to make the overall process easier than Touch ID.

Just before it is your turn in line you double tap your home button, register with Face ID and then go and order. When the payment is ready all you do is press it to the terminal and you’re golden! Saves from having to hold Touch ID and in the phone while pressing to the terminal and removes the need to authenticate your face at time of purchase.

Tried at Apply and Panera and both times it felt more naturally than trying to use Touch ID.

Sounding good. There is a little pause with Touch ID. Apple watch is still the best option but its great to hear Face ID isnt as bad for Apple Pay as first thought.

I love it and prefer it over Touch ID. The one thing that was weird to me was in app store you had to double click the side button and that was a little unnatural but I suppose that was their way of protecting against accidental buys.

So the charging station actually has Apple Pay cards that aren't credit cards? That is kind of cool, and I would like to see a screenshot. I don't drive an electric car, but I have always wondered how these worked. I have always thought you could use a regular credit card with them.

See the link they look something like that. The moment you get close enough to the NFC sensor th screen will turn on and it will select that card automatically.

Most of the charging station are free to register for account. Then you get a membership card or on the phone that you then attach a credit card or PayPal to the account and pay accordingly. Our apartment let’s us charge for free. So the machine basically scan my card and charge me $0 rate.

fwiw..
with ApplePay via faceID, i like how you are grasping the phone more like this:

instead of like this:

Face ID is an improvement over Touch ID in almost every way. It basically makes authentication nearly an invisible and seamless process.

I think you can do that with Touch ID. From a locked phone (with screen off) you can double-press the home button and have it authenticated & ready to present to the terminal for about 1 minute.

Right? Wish I knew that before.. I guess it just came more natural with Face ID. Face ID in general is becoming more and more of an automatic action versus something I need to consciously do.

I did today and I found it to be faster. Double press side button, authenticate and I held it near the reader but I didn't really have to hold it as close as before. The Whole thing was so fast.

I actually pressed the side button twice and authenticated my face before I was done ordering so when I was done all I had to do was hold it near the reader.

I must say I like the fact that the little awkward time spent while using it with Touch ID is gone.
