Both solutions work very well imo. I think touch ID works slightly better with Apple pay but otherwise I have no issues with face ID. Seems redundant to have both in a phone but it will be touted as a feature and people will go crazy.

works good for me, even in a dark room. TouchID on the other hand? Wet finger fail
How often do you have wet fingers when unlocking your phone?

IMO faceid, when it works the first time, is generally easier or feels easier to use but touchid works without me looking at the phone which in a way is actually easier and in a lot of situations faster.

lots. Work in a kitchen.

There’s no improving Face ID. It’s flawed and will never be perfect. Touch ID, on the other hand, is the best Apple invention since sliced bread, and billions of people can’t wait for its return.

It's highly insecure and relatively easy to fool. It's useless with wet fingers. It's useless with gloves. It performs poorly if at all for people with finger injuries that left scars. So how is this anyone's best idea?

Face ID is far from flawed. Using Touch ID on my work iPhone 7 seems ancient and silly. Face ID works without having to do anything.

the future is multiple forms of security. Apple will introduce a phone at some point with both methods of biometrics to be able to use multiple checks for different things. You might just use whatever single option suites you for login, but you might use both for your bank login, etc.

I work with a mask covering my face so Face ID fails for me for most of my days. Just because someone has a situation (eg wet fingers) that makes the tech not work for them doesn’t mean it’s bad as a whole.

Now Bc of my work i would much prefer Touch ID. But also Bc of the many situations where I’m not facing my phone.

Face ID is a superior methodology over fingerprint for multiple reasons:

1. As you age your prints wear down and may become unreadable.
2. Depending on your profession damage to fingerprints can also cause them to become unreadable.
3. I had a student who played with liquid nitrogen when young and her fingerprints are unreadable.
4. The belief of everyone having a unique fingerprint is a fallacy and actually isn’t rooted in science. It’s a belief that’s been held on far too long. Might as well believe in phrenology.

Face ID is far better at protecting what’s important to you.

That's why Apple is investing in ultrasonic fingerprint readers.

Sound waves penetrate below the fingertip surface into the subdermal layer and solves all those problems. Even if your fingers are dirty or don't have a much of a fingerprint, your finger's vascular structure still exists. The vascular structure is also far more unique than fingerprints.

I’ve just jumped from years of Touchid to faceID on the iPhone 11 Pro - to me this thing blows touchid out of the water.

When filling out passwords on web pages I usually press the field and move down to touchid - not any more. It’s instantly used faceID and dang it’s fast!

They did say the stuff about angles but might need AI time to work stuff out?

Today it instantly unlocked me with both shades and a cap on - if that’s not impressive I don’t know what is

The fact that Apple will be adopting in-display fingerprint in 2020 or 2021 hints at what Apple thinks vs. what Apple marketing says.

Hate to break it to you, but TouchID is never coming back. Time to move on, next you’ll be complaining about the headphone jack! FaceID is far superior than any silly underscreen fingerprint scanner lmao

Don't tell me. Tell Kuo and Gurman.

They have a perfect track record. But maybe you're right, but probably not. LOL.
