While driving car Face ID or password entry seems less safe than Touch ID. Face ID will distracts you while driving when you want to unlock the phone. Apple could've have integrated Touch ID along with Face ID & password entry. Or at least apple should allow to turn off the swipe up step after face ID is recognized by iphone.

Believe it or not, you are not supposed to be sing your phone while driving. When stopped at a light faceID will work fine. It is amazing how people are looking for reasons to hate faceID when it is a moot point.

I like the face ID its fast, i uses in surface pro but the problem is when the tablet's camera is towards sun it doesn't work. I can easily say Face ID of surface pro is like blink of an eye or even faster. I start this thread because what if some emergency comes up like Wives call and you are in do or die situation. Either pickup the phone get distracted and die or don't pickup the phone, reach home safely and killed by wife.

What's worse is if it does not work with sunglasses. Then it's really going to make driving unsafe.

And stop with the "you aren't supposed to use your phone while driving". There are plenty of acceptable uses, like Navigation.

And I have had multiple instances where for whatever reason, my phone locked while in navigation and I had to manually unlock it with TouchID to continue seeing the map.

With face ID, if it doesn't work with sunglasses, you will have to lift them or remove them.

Well if you get a phone call you dont need to unlock the phone to answer it......

Music selection... unless you don't agree with using the car radio while driving either :p. Trust me using my phone is a lot safer than trying to find an artist or playlist scrolling one by one on my non CarPlay Honda radio.
[doublepost=1505392330][/doublepost]Unless you have a complex passcode, probably easier to just use that in these situations. Especially if it doesn't work with sunglasses.

You made a really good point about sunglasses etc... Sometimes the sun is so down/low i have to change streets to drive. On top of that i will need to remove sunglasses. Maybe later lot of people raise this issue once they come across this whole driving/face id matter when they practically use iphone x. I hope face ID works in sunlight because i have surface pro with face ID and it doesn't work if the pro's face is towards sun.

If it's absolutely necessary, pull the damn car over to use your damn phone. Don't complain about inconvenience when you're posing a risk to the health and lives of other people. I wish police would step up and throw the book at the idiots who use their phones behind the wheel.

You are NOT entitled to use your phone while driving. Driving is not a right, it's a privilege. Be responsible or don't do it.

Yeah, that too. If I need to take a call, the number is there on the dashboard and I just have to push one button on the wheel. I don't have to grab my iPhone at all.

I think the problem here in America is that even though it's illegal everyone still does it. So the OP does make a point in that people will still continue their dumb/illegal behavior and this might make it that much more dangerous.

Yeah, a person who self driving cars are invented for I guess? In the UK they increased the penalties massively recently cause so many ignore the law and still do it!
