If it aint ready it aint ready. I'm sure the engineers are doing the best they can and I'm sure they were somewhat confident to make it for release otherwise it wouldn't have been announced (unless internal politics/pressure bc of the whole "staying connected to your loved ones" marketing narrative of course).

I suppose this is fine and it will have to be. But Apple does need to make such major features in a more timely fashion.

We're quite deep into the pandemic now and this SharePlay feature, in particular, shouldn't have such a long time lag for implementation as it is directly related to pandemic living. Similar to the ability of Apple Watch being used to unlock an iPhone when one is masked, that feature was a bit tardy in implementation though much appreciated now that it is implemented.

I'm saying that some of these major features should not follow the old timing of previous release/launch schedules, if those features are a direct or indirect response to how we are living our lives now in the pandemic.

Not really surprising. A lot of major new features talked about at WWDC the last several years didn't make it to the initial iOS XX.0 release. Personally, I've started thinking of WWDC as sort of "Here's a roadmap of the main features we intend to rollout over the next year." That seems to be more accurate of how it actually ships.

SharePlay is useless to me. You can't share something you purchased with friends unless they own the same thing.

SharePlay is useless to me too as I'm not one to share what I'm watching over videochat, etc. But, I can imagine it being a lovely feature for some people or families who may want to share clips live and have a live response.

Here’s a thought: pull everyone working on that CASM nonsense which you’ve been getting roasted for in public opinion and the media, put them on getting this and universal control working properly, and call it a day.
But no, Timmy’s Apple just gotta Apple.
Gosh, that CASM feature seems to have come out of nowhere. I'm hoping they get rid of that nonsense!

I imagine Universal Control will be delayed too since we haven’t even had a chance to test it yet haha

Apple had learned the hard way that if something’s too buggy, don’t release it.

It doesn’t surprise me, the feature was quite buggy on beta. Also, I don’t think we will see universal control enabled for september launch
I have the same feeling. Shame for such a cool feature unavailable on launch or even in iOS 15.1.
Teamviewer is not a viable substitute. :(

Sony calls their PlayStation thing Share Play also. Maybe it’s a legal thing. Who knows anymore.

This doesn't surprise me. It's a kinda weird platform, honestly. I wouldn't doubt we see this go into 15.5 (like toward the middle / end cycle of iOS) unless there's massive headway into synching all platforms + video at the same time.

Apple: makes a big change to the OS, a few bugs went unnoticed.
The Crowd: I want Apple to take their time and release bug free features! Stop throwing stuff out and fixing it later.

Apple: makes small changes and focuses on stability.
The Crowd: 🥱 Apple is lacking innovation. This is the most boring update ever.

Apple: 🤷🏻‍♂️

Classic Apple under Tim. Showcase features that do not work, release them months later, sometimes even at the cusp of the next revision. Similarly for hardware (AirPower). This was something that Apple did not do previously.
At least features that can be fixed. Not like "you're holding it wrong", to use a popular meme as an example of something that couldn't be fixed.

A skippable feature to begin with. No one is watching movies together on their phones like this. Disney+ and other streaming apps offer these features and not surprising, they aren't being used. It's a nice feature for that rare person who would use it .... but considering it's a major feature it's a head scratcher.

It seems like they’re deliberately timing SharePlay to be available the day after all COVID restrictions end and no one wants or needs to video conference any more.

Interesting. Why not call it "Share Watch" since it is about sharing of videos. Or...does the share include sharing of just audio clips too? Hmm....

It really goes to show that they accomplished next to nothing due to lockdown and their productivity suffered. I don’t think fully-remote or fully-in-office are the answer, hopefully they can find a good hybrid that brings back their productivity.
