Did you need to do anything special to get Facetime to appear? I've installed it but there's no sign of anything related to video conferencing whatsoever.it works very well in the beta
No just iOS 17 on my phone and tvOS 17 on the TV, I think it has to be an TV 4K 3rd Gen though because I don’t see the FaceTime app on my 2nd Gen in the bedroomDid you need to do anything special to get Facetime to appear? There’s a FaceTime app on the top row on my TV now, when you open that it sends a pop up to your phone to initiate the continuity camera, you accept, set up the camera where you want and then you can initiate a call on the TV itself, it works seamlesslyInteresting. I cannot find anywhere where Apple claims you need the 3rd gen. Just a 4k Apple TV.
How did you get it to work specifically? Were you on a FaceTime on your phone, and the AppleTV asked to switch? As Walter said above, I could not find anything on the ATV that allows me to start a call from it. Or even mentions FT (in settings or anywhere else).
Anyone know what stand are they using for the iPhone in the keynote.
(at 1:03:40 in the keynote)
Yeah, with my 2nd gen 4K, I definitely don't have that. Must be limited to 3rd gen's currently. There’s a FaceTime app on the top row on my TV now, when you open that it sends a pop up to your phone to initiate the continuity camera, you accept, set up the camera where you want and then you can initiate a call on the TV itself, it works seamlessly
Not sure I like that they seem to have made the app icons smaller now, it looks too crowdedYeah, with my 2nd gen 4K, I definitely don't have that. Must be limited to 3rd gen's currently.
No kidding. We were doing so much FaceTiming and couldn't use the biggest screen in the house to do it.This is great BTW, we should have had this during the lockdowns . . . . .
Does the iPhone have to be logged into the same Apple ID as the Apple TV?There’s a FaceTime app on the top row on my TV now, when you open that it sends a pop up to your phone to initiate the continuity camera, you accept, set up the camera where you want and then you can initiate a call on the TV itself, it works seamlessly
Agreed. I have searched high and low (rewatching the keynote, re-reading the press release, etc). Nothing says Apple TV 4K (Third-Gen) anywhere, but the first gen def does not have it at least so far.I can't seem to find anywhere where the limitations of FaceTime being on 2nd and 3rd gen Apple TV 4K devices being publicised; maybe is changes in future betas?

It’s using the mic on the iPhoneHas anyone tested - which mic does Facetime on tvOS17 use for audio input? Is it using the mic on the iPhone? Or is it possible to use the mic on the Apple TV remote for the audio input to Facetime calls?
Thanks, disappointed, but I’m not going to upgrade just for that. Wish they had clarified in the keynote. It's here: https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-17-preview/ Scroll down to footnote 3.

Lame. Thanks for checking. Maybe I'll submit it as a feature request. Seems totally obvious to use the remote mic - all AppleTVs come with a bluetooth remote with a mic that people can hold in their hands or place on the coffee table in front of them. It’s using the mic on the iPhone
