DEFINTELY PAY THE $400 EXTRA! This MacBook Pro that you are thinking of trading is WAY BETTER than the Dell you have. He probably just realized how dumb he was because he could sell it for a lot. So I say it's worth the $400 extra. Come on, it's a MAC!

If it were the latest versions of the MBP I would probably go for it, but this is the version that was just replaced. If I went out to get AppleCare, I'd have to tack on close to another $350.

I was hoping to sell my M1330 for $1,500, but nothing is going my way, people offer $800 which is a joke...

I keep going back and forth, I know I'm driving you guys and definitely my wife insane!

if I were a sensible trader, I would probably consider this deal to be weighted $300-400 or so in your direction (that is, I'd probably trade you the MBP for the XPS plus that much cash).

He is asking for $400 more in cash.

What can I say? That's about right.... None of what you said bears any relevance. It's just a market phenomenon. In spite of the fact that the Dell uses the same components as the MBP, there is little demand for used copies of it, unlike the MBP. Sorry....

I guess you're right. If the new designed MBP was out, I would go for it. But since the next update is apparently the big one, not just a speed bump, but an overhaul, I might as well just wait. I still have my 2 week old MacBook so I'm still in Mac Heaven! :)

Yep, follow your own advice. You have decent laptops right now. Why trade for a marginally better one when you can get a much better one not far from now?

Your computer isn't worth $1500, but its not worth $800 either. I would say it somewhere in the middle. I would do the trade + $300 if I were you. That seems fair, and if your job necessitates a mac, its alot cheaper then having to buy a new MBP.

TRADE!!!

even if you dont like it, you will be able to sell the MBP for way more than the XPS

a mac is the only computer in the world that has a "resale value"

Out of curiosity, how did you come to have two very similarly sized notebooks to begin with? Why would one person own both a Macbook and an XPS1330?

I had such issues with the M1330. Dell came to fix the keyboard, thent he motherboard went, they had to replace that, the tech screwed up the machine, I had to send the M1330 to Dell for repair, they didn't reflash the hard drive, they then sent me a reimaged hard drive but the wrong speed, this went on and on and on. I had enough, bought the MacBook and was trying to sell the M1330. I wrote a letter to Dell complaining about all I had gone through and they decided to send me a new laptop with some updated specs (the 2.4 penryn over the 2.2 memron) in addition to a few little extras the new machines come with.

Maybe you could try Dell and ask for a refund? They are refunding me my money in full and i bought my notebook back in September. I was happy with the notebook but i was really ticked of about a tech guys manner so i asked for a refund on the spur of the moment and was given one without any fuss.

Getting my money back is probably ideal as they updated the processor anyway and laptop has lost value.

Maybe you could try Ebay also but do buy it now.

I doubt they'd do that now, they did send me a updated system...

You could try and say you are not happy with it etc that you have reached the end of the line with Dell and you would now like a refund.

Just spoke with the seller\trader again. They said they purchased the MacBook Pro sealed, off Craig's List. They apparently have the original packaging.

Anything I should for while using it for those 15-30 minutes?

I'm going to ask for the serial number so I can check out the specs. There has to be a site that allows you to check that info...

Ask to open to look, you dont want to be like those other people who found a brick inside a professionally resealed box.

So the seller / trader, whatever you want to call him, is going to sell is MBP to someone else and get back to me to purchase my M1330. I'm better off this way, waiting for what appears to be a remodeled MBP come the late summer / early fall. Thank you for all your opinions though!

If they sent you an updated and working system, yeah, they've done more than enough for you.

Sounds like your current plan is a good one, although I'd keep trying to sell the XPS if that's your ultimate goal. It's only going to continue to depreciate in value over time, and if you don't want / aren't using it, you're wasting money, in essence....

P.S. For the love of god, it's Merom, not Memron. :p

I had no clue it was Merom. Memron is so much easier to pronounce. Well, Merom it is!
