How do we know this is fake?

I would just like to have some evidence one way or the other...
before I start to do a DOS attack on his ass!

I noticed that at the bottom, it shows Apple's stock price--it says it's around $26...which isn't exactly accurate...I don't know if that matters, I just found it odd.

Hahaha, posted it on forums.macnn.com and the mods quickly deleted it. they have noooo sense of humor. reposted it there as an FYI post. Those bums!

Man, my heart skipped a beat when I saw this for the few minutes it was up on the main page!

How do we know for sure that this is fake? Who/what is the source that says so? And what motivation would somebody have to post a wacked-out fake article like this?

We know it is fake because the web address actually goes to the guy's IP address, 208.191.58.123, and the "news.com.com" is irrelevant to the location of the web site.

The reason is because some people have too much time on their hands and spend it wasting other people's time.

ok, so it's fake in the sense that it's not a CNET article. but that doesn't mean the content is fake.

anyone know a way to find out if that really happened? wouldn't IBM have announced something like that... actually now that i come to think of it they'd probably try and keep it hush hush.

what if it really happened? if might not have been with 14,000 chips, and it might not have been from that sort of sabotage, but IBM could have lost a large number of G5's and this guy is just trying to let everyone know what happened.


and what's up with that site 'news.com.com'? :confused: does it have an exact copy of all the articles from news.com or what?:eek:

It does mean the content is fake. (And you wonder why people go through the trouble of doing these fakes?)

This page is on some guys home computer via ADSL. The page was entirely fabricated to fool people.

If you believe it to be true... I can forward you a few emails from PayPal and eBay that indicate that you need to reenter your credit card because they need to "verify" your information.

Does anyone get the feeling Apple and IBM are being unfairly targeted by people like this idiot who posted the fake story? I wonder what his/her motives were and I hope Apple's competitors are in no way involved with this lying scumbag.

The G5s are real and here to stay. Unforseen delays are not unusual in the computer industry.

In other news

A PC that was mission critical in the delivery of the G5 from IBM to Apple was infected by a virus.

Just because I'm joking doesn't make this not true! Enjoy.

Yes, you're eager to get your G5s. And probably this guy is too. But before everyone takes the wrath of their impatience out on him, read the full article. At the bottom he said:

" This article is a parody, intended as a little comic relief in a slow news period for a news-starved community. All graphics, stories ('cepting the bogus one) , and other proprietary parts of this here webpage are CNET's, not mine. Hope you enjoyed it - M. "

yeah, it's a fake news.com article, but haven't people used parody to convey a thought about certain events in the past? :confused: that way, if it is truthful information they won't be held responsible for damages.

i remember one story a person wrote about some Apple employees sitting in a bar somewhere talking about new PowerBooks, i think it was about the 17". the person who wrote the stort told it from the perspective of a person just sitting in the bar, overhearing the Apple guys talking.

from what i can remember about it all the info was correct (i think). but of course it was a fake, because you wouldn't see Apple people sitting out in public talking about something like that.

that fake article could have the same purpose as that story. maybe. :p

Boy, if I were you chilly miller, or whatever your name is I'd be careful with stuff like that.

I'm quite sure Apple wouldn't find this the least bit humorous given all the upset consumers this past week.

The littlest things can send stock tumbling... and quite possibly lawyers to your door.

news.com.com - sounds weird doesn't it. If you were to buy the site "apple", it'd be referred to as http://www.apple.com. In this case, they've bought a site called "com", therefore getting http://www.com.com. What they've also done is set up a second server on the same domain name. Just like apple has a server called "developer", resulting in developer.apple.com, CNet has one called "news", so you get news.com.com.

Hopefully that all made sense. It's not entirely accurate, I just tried to simplify it (and it's still a mess... figures.)

Seriously, I just thought we needed something to talk about. I'm tiring of "*** Al 15 inch TOMORROW Confirmed ***" and "iMac 3 G5??".

And it was a good html brushup, for someone who's been spoiled of late by Dreamweaver.

I've replaced it, anyway, with my favorite Mac desktop. That's harmless enough.

That's not quite how the market works. It's not like someone can post a convincing fake at 2 in the morning and then figure the next day that all will be sorted out and understood once trading begins.

yeah, good job with that, you had me going. :) i was getting sick of all the same old PowerBook talk as well. although what's up with that pic that's in place of the article? it's a big big isn't it? :p

so the whole story, content and all was fake? come on, tell us - do you know someone who works in IBM, or used to? ;) or just PM me and give me the low down. :D

I love my Mac and love Steve Jobs

but Apple is bringing this upon themselves

ever since the 17" PB 6 week wait... Apple has now given itself a reputation of introducing products, and taking FOREVER to deliver them

either they have to start shipping sooner, or become less incompetent with wait times

What most people who do this sort of stuff forget is that they have to emulate the writing style of the newspaper/magazine/news source that they're trying to emulate.

Read any story on News.com and compare it to this fake, and you'll immediately realize it's a fake.

The real danger comes when fakers get good at emulating the style they're mimicking.
